DIY Custom Decals For Your Bike pt1 : Bike Logos

  • Just picked up my new frame from Area Cycles, Castro Valley and I'm super stoked about it!!! However, I am still waiting for some parts that are on back order and until that sorts itself out, I'm not able to put the bike together... So, why not spend the time by making some custom decals? And of course we have to do it in mrpercussive fashion where it's done with no special tools and more importantly, it's done for cheap! Here's Part 1 showing you how we change the colors of your bike logos! Keep an eye out for Part 2 where we continue to explore making graphics and such as well!
    Materials
    Masking tape
    Sharpie
    Ruler
    Scissors
    Knife
Vinyl (I used automotive vinyl wrap. $15 for 24x60")
    Alcohol
    Water

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been looking for a way to make decals without those €500 cutter machines. I've had so many ideas for decals and its been so annoying not being able to create and use them on my MTB. thank you again!

Thanks! This is rad! FYI - You can glue computer paper to the masking tape. Print cool graphic. Glue to tape. Tape to vinyl. Cut out. BAM!

It's more efficient to use adhesive printing paper.
      1. Outline decal on tape.
      2. Stick tape onto regular copy paper to use on a copying machine.
      3. Insert adhesive printing paper into copier and make as many copies as you want.
      4. Take the copied printed decal and peel/stick it on the back of the vinyl sheet that you want to use on the bike.
      5. Cut out the letters then peel/stick onto bike.

@obliviondio yes but the whole point of this was to not need any special tools

Copying machines are not hard to come by. Tons of businesses have them these days. Also if you can order rolls of vinyl then you can also order adhesive printing paper.

Rad!!!!! Yea I guess that'll work for that too! Just make sure to get some clear 3m helicopter tape to wrap right over it so it really stays on there as automotive wrap isn't exactly the toughest material

This is really awesome! You gave me some ideas. I will use the masking tape to create a template of my decals, then I will put my vinyl on a cutting mat and put the masking tape template over it. Cut out the decals, remove the unnecessary parts and then place transfer tape onto it. No I can transfer the whole decal as one.

dont forget to do a clear coating on the whole frame afterwards or your fancy decals will fall off after 1 week if exposed to sunlight.
or at least do a lazy man's clear coating but then you will see where the coating ends.
no matter wht you do there is no easy way to paint custom stuff or do decals without a coating if you dont want to do this each week.
me personally, i didnt found a adhesive foil that sticks to frames longer then a few weeks.

    • @mrpercussive
      @mrpercussive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yea I should've clarified more that I'm not using a fancy cricut or anything. That said, I'm just automotive vinyl that I got off ebay for $15 24x60". You can also use this hack with any stickers and stuff that you have collected over the years. I have buddies that collect stickers of craft beer cans and that could make pretty cool decals as well! :)
