  • One of my Hampshire walks in the beautiful New Forest National Park and along a part of the Avon Valley River long distance path. This is a beautiful walk , but it's made difficult by poorly signed and maintained paths, and a tendency for the Avon Valley Path to be wet underfoot in all but drought conditions.
on this walk we discover the ancient art of thatching, RAF Ibsley, Reed beds , fish farms, forest wildlife, a Bear Grylls jungle adventure and much more.
Starts and finishes at The Royal Oak, North Gorley. 8 miles approximately.

Lovely scenery and I enjoyed seeing you do the walk so that I don't have to. Good job!

The Avon Valley Path can be a "challenge" at the best of times ..... but if you like mud, then it is heaven! The footpath that you went down off Gorley Hill (you went through a metal gate) has now been temporarily closed with a suggested diversion.

Thanks Dave. At least Logan would stay cool on that walk 😁

Ah, pleasant memories of splodging my way down the Avon Valley Walk. Thank you whoever put planks in place over the wettest bits. Thanks for the video, Rob.

I walked the section of the AVP between Harbridge and Fordingbridge in September last year. The boardwalk section was clear, dry underfoot and ‘navigable’. The area where the planks of wood were by a big puddle were passable too. Out of interest, did you report the overgrown bit and impassable planks bit to Hampshire Countryside ROW? I find they’re very responsive to repair notifications.

In fairness no but I know they follow the Facebook group. I did the whole route Salisbury to Christchurch many years ago and it was never like the day I did this dreadful walk 😁
