Pop 'N' Taco is to poppin' what air is to lungs. With him, Poppin Pete, B. Shrimp and Ozone, you couldn't ask for better people to introduce and keep the arts of original popping going. Legends...all of you. Keep it going.
I've been seeing so many people do these moves wrong for so many year. I gotta give Taco mad props for not only doing these moves the right way but doing em' damn good too.
This is how it was back in the day when we used to hang out at Taco's and practice in the garage. Shrimp, Taco, Hugo, Poppin Pete and Darrell from Mysterious poppers really got this dance going in So. Cal. Don't be fooled thinking that Ozone(Shabbadoo) was a popper. He couldn't hang with a popper if he tried. He's a great LOCKER but for sure not a popper.
todays poppers have nothing on taco and shrimp! accept no substitutes! these guys have muscle control like no one else. simply untouchable. taco is without doubt the greatest ever. noone today comes close.
The way it got transformed was that in the late 90s, the EBs went around and told everyone that they created Poppin. They targeted mostly suburb kids, because they knew they could easily sway and control them. Now you have these kids runnin around thinkin that they rep the new generation of Poppin, when nothing could be further from the truth. The sad part of that, is that when people see all these suburb kids "reppin" Poppin, they get a whack idea of the artform. It's a black eye.
The EBs were so good, that they barely even got mentioned in the 82/83 documentary "Breakin n Enterin". Here's these "creators" and "they are the best", yet nobody is even mentioning them, and they themselves aren't even IN the documentary, showing the culture of Poppin at that time, all the way from the Southbay, to Hollywood, to LA, to The Radiotron, to Hollywood blvd at night............ Yet the suburb kids of today actually believe that the EBs owned everything.
EXACTLY. Much different presentation than what you hear these days eh? Politics. They're trying to own the artform now, and so now they're trying to re-write history. Good observation.
you must be from the oldschool if you knowin Midnite-breakers. lol There were LOTS of hard poppers back in the day, but most people don't really understand or know, because this was/is a very underground culture. What you see nowadays is a very distorted version of it - meaning that there's a lot of LIES out there, by people who want glory.

Glad you enjoyed it, and it's awesome to be able to share this culture 25 years later.
Blessings
