      Don't worry, I always think that too! I assume it is pronounced like that as in German fuchs....and not fewsh....which is also hilarious when said! 😂

    Loved both the painting and the one in the sketchbook. Someday I want to get some metallic or sparkling paint but unsure which one. Loved the Amethyst but will admit a fondness to them. Have many Amethyst clusters in my house. In the 80's and early 90's when my husband made knives, he started adding some interesting materials to his folder handles. That gave us the excuse to go gem & mineral shows. Bought much more personal pieces than ever for the business.

      I haven't done a lightfast test so I can't say for sure how lightfast or fugitive it is, sadly! I do like it, but it's a little weak in tinting strength. It's one of those ones where I bought it with birthday money due to its hefty price but it isn't as amazing as I want it to be. Now I want to get this paint set out and use it again! 😂

      @@BeckyTregear I know exactly what you mean. I love the Jadeite. Mayah Blue Gen and manganese Blue and Cobalt teal blue from DANIEL SMITH but I don't love that they charge so dang much for their watercolor when Roman Szmal has amazing quality and great prices so I have pretty much switched. At the same time I haven't really calculated how many pans I get out of the tube of 15 ml tube. So might not be all that much if you look at it that way. lol. I just reviewed the White Nights granulating color. OMG they are amazing.

    This came out so good I paused and showed my husband. He liked it, too. I have everything in your palette minus sugalite and garnet. I have some other colors, like Blue Apatite Genuine and Purpurite genuine, which I absolutely love both. These colors are so fun to play with.

    • @BeckyTregear

      Aww thank you! 💜 Purpurite is definitely one I'd look to get!

  • @VanmeterFL
    @VanmeterFL 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just reviewed this wonderful video again, because I was planning on adding additional PrimaTek tubes to my collection. Seeing them used in an actual painting makes a huge difference. Jane Blundell did a lightfast test on Rhodonite Genuine, and it faded a bit for her, so I'm staying away from that one for the time being. I'm loving Green Apatite, Amazonite, Mayan Blue, Diopside, and Zoisite, but my favorite right now is Hematite Genuine. You might try it, since you love granulation. Of your list, I have Amethyst, Fuchsite, Jadeite, Serpentine, and Piemontite.
    I'm torn between adding Blue Apatite, SB Turquoise, and Garnet. Decisions, decisions. ☺It's hard to choose when you want them ALL!
    Again, great video and I LOVED the amazing painting you produced with these amazing colors.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, I am so glad it was helpful! It is always so hard choosing colours, especially when they cost so much. Rhodonite seems to be the most dodgy of them all and can change colours over time. I haven't tested my own tube though. Ooh decisions with those three....SB turquoise is so much more expensive, and it does dry rock hard in a pan, but will rewet quite well nonetheless. I like all three...garnet is quite a useful reddish brown...ahhh I can't even pick from my own set of colours! 🤣🙈

    This is the first practical demonstration for using the DS Primatek paints in an actual painting rather than just swatching them individually. And it's great! Unfortunately for my bank balance it's changed my mind about them completely. This painting is so rich and uses such lively colours, that I feel I must get some of them. And if Daniel Smith don't send you some freebies to use in another demo - then they're fools!

      Garnet is an odd one; it's a reddish brown but it also seems to change a bit. When it is concentrated it is a lot browner, but when it's washed out over a larger area of paper it goes quite red. Can also be the light picking up red tones in it.

    I love granulating watercolours, but I refuse to give Daniel Smith any more business until/unless they become more honest with their marketing practices. Thankfully, with some effort, you can find some fabulous granulating colours in other brands (even though it takes some effort to put together a palette).

    • @VanmeterFL

      Before you crucify DS, please think about the following deep dive I did regarding worldpigmentday's evaluation of PrimaTek.
      Right from the FIRST analysis she did, I found a huge lie. This is a direct quote from her Instagram post: "First up is DS 'genuine amazonite. I'm going to explain how I did this analysis so you can see how this method works. But here's the spoiler: the pigment in this paint is over 90% phthalocyanine green."
      NOW, any artist knows how staining phthalo green is! ALL the DS PrimaTek paints are 1 & 2 on the staining scale. Phtlalo green is 4!!
      So, I painted a swatch of Amazonite to see IF it was really easily lifted. The swath I lifted from the middle of my swatch was COMPLETLY lifted out, because Amazonite Genuine is indeed a 1!
      I don't know the true qualifications of worldpigmentday. I don't know her background other than how much she likes to brag about them. What I DO know is she could NOT have found Amazonite Genuine to be OVER 90% phthalocanine green! It's not possible.
      Try it yourself, even if you don't have Amazonite, paint a swatch of phthalo green. Let it dry, and try to lift it! It will NOT lift!
      I have 9 PrimaTek colors. All are either 1 or 2 in staining quality! EVERY paint worldpigmentday claims DS mixed with the minerals in their PT line have HIGHER staining qualities than the actual PT color! That means she didn't do any of the research she claims she did!
      BTW, DS was the FIRST watercolor company that printed their pigment colors on their tubes of paint! They pushed other companies to do the same, otherwise we would have NEVER knows what was in them.
      I hope this helps, but I dub this controversy a NONtroversy!
