Merci pour ce gentil guidage ds le monde de la couleur. Je viens d'acquérir ce tube ce matin et je vais m'amuser. Merci de nous faire partager votre expérience.
Just ordered a tube this morning!! I haven’t had tube green in a long time. After checking several greens this looks most granulating, which I find more fun to use. Your video confirms that I will be happy with my purchase! Thanks! 11:41
I love Undersea Green & was so happy to see this video on it. I love your mixes of blue & yellow and this has given me many more possibilities with the beautiful Undersea Green. Thank you, Liron Yanconsky!
after many years (40+) I am coming back to watercolor. This color is wonderful! I would not have considered it if I hadn't seen this video....thank you for sharing!
I am Australian. Wonderful coastline and also tropics and water in the deserts and rocky canyon. Your video was truly exciting with possibilities and I love your experimental approach.
I'm so happy to have found your channel and this series! I love nerding out about paint pigment. Undersea green was one of my first Daniel Smith paints and it's still a staple on my palette.
Gorgeous color...but I find it easy to make with Ph. Blue, New Gamboge, and Pyrrol Scarlet. Probably one could make this with any of the primaries and a little experimentation. That being said, I still have a tube! I’m a true believer in a limited palette, a warm and cool or each primary - I think it’s what all beginners should use, because it teaches you so much about color and harmony. A lot of really good artists mix all their colors themselves from the primaries. But it’s fun to have these interesting colors, and I do use them. Just saying, if you are limited financially, you don’t have to buy them.
Thank you Liron. I've been curious about this one and love the thalo mixed with it. I will be getting this as it does make other pigments look more natural for nature. I can see myself using a lot of it for convenience mixing.
Not an essential green for me, but I love it so much. I never got to use the old formula with PO49 in it as DS had stopped using PO49 in convenience mixtures by the time I got into watercolor a couple years ago. I love it for shadows or quick background washes, but it can also be charged nicely with other colors like quin rose.
Great video! New to your channel, very helpful and you’re very charming. If you haven’t tried it yet you must absolutely try the cascade green from d.smith.
Id love to say something brilliant, but since I’m so brand new to all this I will simply say I love this color in all the forms you have presented! I loved the whole trilogy of this set, and I actually have ordered the set since you have brought it to my attention! I also ordered your sketching book today from Amazon! 😊. Thanks for your videos...I do learn from them, and one day I’ll be able to make a brilliant comment on one of your vids I’m sure! lol. Peace ✌️
I should’ve paid more attention to your video. When I use from the tube, great. Dry dark. The second I put water to it, it goes totally watery-grey! Help! Please recommend the best(in your experience) green. I didn’t want to go back to plain old Sap Green, but I may have to. Right now, I’m using Gamboge/French Ultramarine to make greens that stand water and do well. Should I just mix my own? Any help appreciated. Love your tutorials. Thx.
I am new to watercolor painting and love this green with the phthalo blue, but I’m confused.. When I looked to buy a tube it seems to come as phthalo blue green or phthalo blue red. Is there a brand that has just phthalo blue? If not, am I correct that the blue green version would result in the results you show? Thank you.
I believe mine was actually a Red Shade actually 😅 But I will say - for a more accurate result, the superior version is indeed the green shade (though it’s not a huge difference). I believe some brands do only have one version, but not sure which ones of the top of my head (:
Yes, the PO49 was discontinued several years ago. The original Under Sea Green used to be made with Quin gold PO49 and Ultramarine blue PB29. I research several years ago the pigment companies and was told that PO48 and PO49 come from the exact same source being the same pigment but the hue varies from warm to cool. The auto industry stopped ordering the PO49 cooler one so they wont even produce it anymore. But the PO48 is still popular. The best way to make a quin gold hue is PY150 and PO48. This is how they do it now, although some companies will add it a touch of PV19 to the mix making it look more authentic.
Nice episode for an amazing color. Thx for the review! PO48 is Quinacridone Gold and PO49 is Quinacridone Deep Gold (which is discontinued). I think the name of the original paint is slightly misleading....
You can google "color index number Po48" and find that the color index name of PO48 is Quinacridone Gold and PO49 is Quinacridone Deep Gold. I think that paint names are not exactly the same as pigment name, thus some "confusion".
Bought that Same sampler pack recently. Have not had a chance to really use it...looking forward to some time to experiment with it. Thanks as always for the review and your channel. By the way watching a Jordan Peterson interview right now....:).
Very nice analysis of the color, never heard of it. Like it’s properties, record more. Maybe label the the different color combinations- helps to see clearly.
I enjoyed this demo very much. I think the lemon yellow was a little too high key for the result you were trying to get. Just my opinion that a yellow leaning more toward a goldenrod would probably have brought you closer to the actual tube color. I love your experiments, paintings, techniques, etc. You are so talented!🖌🎨
Hi Rita, I believe French Ultramarine is a stronger blue with a little more granulation than Ultramarine blue. A tube of French Ultramarine will cost more than a tube of Ultramarine Blue; but, that French Ultramarine will outlast two tubes of Ultramarine Blue, when all other aspects are equal. I use French Ultramarine.
In this vid I'm using a Museum Emerald flat brush. I actually don't use it as much these days, as I find its capacity quite limited (: Can highly recommend Silver Black Velvet, Escoda, Lebenzon Brushes and Raphael!
It’s a flat brush by a brand called Museum Emerald. For some reason I can’t find it on Amazon, but you can find it on their website (: I’m not 100% pleased with its water capacity, but it gets the job done.
Absolutely love this color and the way this paint moves with wet on wet. Some very interesting movements as this paint works itself on the paper.

Received my tube of DS Undersea yesterday. Played around a bit. I haven’t tried combining with other colors yet. LOVE IT!!
The new Quin gold has po48 and py150
I love Undersea Green & was so happy to see this video on it. I love your mixes of blue & yellow and this has given me many more possibilities with the beautiful Undersea Green. Thank you, Liron Yanconsky!
My favorite Daniel Smith pigment!
after many years (40+) I am coming back to watercolor. This color is wonderful! I would not have considered it if I hadn't seen this video....thank you for sharing!
My pleasure - thank you ^_^
I hope you enjoy your return to watercolor-land :D
I love this green. ❤️❤️❤️
😁😁 It’s really awesome
I am Australian. Wonderful coastline and also tropics and water in the deserts and rocky canyon. Your video was truly exciting with possibilities and I love your experimental approach.
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏼
I love these paint reviews.very good
I'm so happy to have found your channel and this series! I love nerding out about paint pigment. Undersea green was one of my first Daniel Smith paints and it's still a staple on my palette.
Awesome, welcome aboard 😁🙏🏼 I love nerding with paints two. Many more episodes to come!
This was an excellent breakdown! Thank you, Liron!
I love Undersea Green! I paint mermaids quite often and it is luscious for them!! Extra nice video, thanks!
Haha thank you (:
This is totally a mermaid color =P

Thanks so much for the review Liron of this interesting color. I especially love the wet in wet where the pigments separate, really gorgeous. 💞💫
Thank you 😊 It’s an amazing paint to use wet-in-wet!
Thanks for the wonderful review Liron 👍
Liron I so enjoyed this video and seeing all the differant possibilities when mixing differant pigments. Thanks!
So happy to hear, thank you 😊🙏🏼
Thank you Liron. I've been curious about this one and love the thalo mixed with it. I will be getting this as it does make other pigments look more natural for nature. I can see myself using a lot of it for convenience mixing.
Yes - it’s great for that. And I had a good hunch regarding the Phthalo mix (;
This color and serpentine green are some of my favorite
Oh - had to search it - it's indeed beautiful ^_^
I love these kinds of natural olive-ish greens
Love your mixtures.
I have and love this green. I think you showed its beauty quite well!
Thank you 🙏🏼😊 I’m happy with the direction of The Paint Show!
I just found your channel and I love it.soo informative
Beautiful! I love Daniel Smith green apatite genuine. It’s one of their Primatek colors and it granulates beautifully! Give it a try.
I tried it in another episode and loved it too! (:
It was also quite a popular paint among other viewers here (;
looks super intresting I will try out mixing it myself first before buying it in tube
Yes - It’s a great combo for dim, muted and natural greens! (:
Thanks so much Liron! Love these reviews, and just purchased the set from your link. 😊
Very useful. Thanks so much
A can get a similar (but more abstract looking) effect with QOR Cobalt Teal PG26 and Pyrrol Red PR254. They really separate.
Interesting, I didn’t explore that effect fully yet. I only noticed when it happened in the convenience mixtures (: Will give it a try!
Thank you so much for such an informative and cool chanel !
My pleasure, thank you! ^_^

Yes - they generally recommend using Quins. with it. I’m still unsure why they write PO48 and Quinacridone Gold next to it on the tube.
Liron Yanconsky on my tubes of Quin Gold PO49 is identified as Quin Gold Deep. I always ignore that and go by pigment number. It’s more reliable.
yay!! 12k congrats!!
Thank you 😁🙏🏼👏🏼
Great video! New to your channel, very helpful and you’re very charming.
If you haven’t tried it yet you must absolutely try the cascade green from d.smith.
Thank you and welcome aboard 😊 I’ll be sure to give it a try! (I believe I heard about that one before)
Id love to say something brilliant, but since I’m so brand new to all this I will simply say I love this color in all the forms you have presented! And your comment is great, no worries 😉
Liron Yanconsky will do! Thanks!

Looks very similar to Roman Szmal Aquarius green

I just checked and my old tube does have the PO49 label (I think I've had this one 3-4-ish years). Now I'm wondering how different the PO48 version is
Interesting - As Quin gold is similar I don’t think there will be a significant difference (:
Nice episode for an amazing color. Thx for the review! PO48 is Quinacridone Gold and PO49 is Quinacridone Deep Gold (which is discontinued). I think the name of the original paint is slightly misleading....
No Quinacridone Gold is PO49
You can google "color index number Po48" and find that the color index name of PO48 is Quinacridone Gold and PO49 is Quinacridone Deep Gold. I think that paint names are not exactly the same as pigment name, thus some "confusion".
PO48 is Burnt Orange, they mix it with PY150 to make the new Quin Gold.
No PO49 is Quinacridone Gold. PO48 is Quinacridone Orange.
Bought that Same sampler pack recently. Have not had a chance to really use it...looking forward to some time to experiment with it. Thanks as always for the review and your channel. By the way watching a Jordan Peterson interview right now....:).
Haha thank you 🙏🏼 Jordan did some great interviews recently!
I can't say that's my favorite color, but you've given a very fair review :)
Thank you 🙏🏼😊 What greens do you prefer?
Liron Yanconsky chromium oxide & any mix with cerulean blue and lemon yellow
Very nice analysis of the color, never heard of it. Like it’s properties, record more. Maybe label the the different color combinations- helps to see clearly.
Thank you - will try and make the mixes clearer next time (:
I enjoyed this demo very much. I think the lemon yellow was a little too high key for the result you were trying to get. Just my opinion that a yellow leaning more toward a goldenrod would probably have brought you closer to the actual tube color. I love your experiments, paintings, techniques, etc.
You are so talented!🖌🎨
Thank you 😊🙏🏼 Great insight about the yellow. It was quite lemony 🍋

Donna G thank you. Very helpful!
Hey Rita, FUB has red in it I know crazy but swatch both out. You will notice the purple.
Good question and answer! 👌🏼👏🏼😊
Rnhipp717 - I switched to FUB in my palette and have been working with it in my paintings this morn. Pleased painter here! Thank you-👍
Can you tell us about the brush you are using?
In this vid I'm using a Museum Emerald flat brush.
I actually don't use it as much these days, as I find its capacity quite limited (:
Can highly recommend Silver Black Velvet, Escoda, Lebenzon Brushes and Raphael!
Hello, can you say to me what is your fantastic flat brush?
Thank you

What are the specifics of the flat brush you are using that you recommend? Link to Amazon?
It’s a flat brush by a brand called Museum Emerald. For some reason I can’t find it on Amazon, but you can find it on their website (:
I’m not 100% pleased with its water capacity, but it gets the job done.
Liron Yanconsky Thanks for your honest response.
