- Mermaid Man has always been one of my favorite SpongeBob characters.
So because he has been sadly discontinued from the show due to the passing of Ernest Borgnine in 2012, I have decided to do a Voice Comparison to honor this great character.

Joe Alasky is good, but Ernest Borgnine made this minor character a legend.

Despite having been portrayed by multiple actors, retiring Mermaid Man after Borgnine’s death was definitely the right call

The reason why they didn’t get someone who was able to do a better Mermaid-Man impression was apparently because Nickelodeon didn’t want them to use new voice lines.
Same goes for why Mr. Krabs isn’t voiced by Clancy Brown.

Interesting. I wasn’t aware that they actually used Mermaid Man one more time after Borgnine died (they’ve since retired the character besides for silent cameos). Reitel’s version reminds me quite a bit of Alaskey’s.
I also just checked the credits to this game and saw that Tim Conway is listed too. This must have been the last time he played Barnacle Boy unless there’s anything I missed.
Joe Alaskey sounded good. I think John DiMaggio (Bender) could have done a good job too. Lionel Wilson (Eustace from Courage the Cowardly Dog) too.

I knew Enn Reitel voiced Mermaid Man, it was not easy to find out the Cast of the SpongeBob SquarePants moves in App.

hearing people say Ernest was the character well no duh but gotta give some credit to Joe as he knew he was filling big shoes and he is a bit closer than the second guy ugh! Viacom really a younger VA u need a older person to do the role.

Which is interesting considering Enn Reitel is Scottish and I know it can be hard for most Scottish actors to shed the accent when voicing characters though there are of course some Scottish actors who are really good at it such as Ewan McGregor David Tennant and Peter Capaldi

1. Ernest Borgnine (R.I.P.) - He's the OG, also heard he also voiced Kip from Small Soldiers too.
2. Joe Alaskey (R.I.P.) - I did enjoy his voice as Duck Dodgers,Grandpa Lou, and other characters but y'know? even if I never played the games, I think his Mermaid Man voice is a'ight.
3. Enn Reitel - No complaints, tho' maybe he could've done better.
4. Joe Whyte - Don't hate him much but I'm not too fond of his Mermaid Man voice lol.
