Love the smooth little knocking noise of these indirect injected diesels

I've got an original 97 306 dturbo I've owned for the past 20 years, still runs great but got some oil leaks to sort soon. Always thought the cam cover is a poor design with just 3 small bolts, never really got mine to seal properly, but last time I changed the seal must be 15 years ago. Done 221k now but always had servicing on time and has never had any major work apart from the rear axle about 10 years ago. Engine, gearbox, clutch and turbo are all original and never been out of the vehicle, though it has had its first bit of welding done this week, common area nearside inner arch. I've loved my ownership, people who slate french vehicles really don't have a clue. Always loved the Zx.

Know what a happy moment the first start is, congrats. Maybe a touch lumpy (but was cold, too). Adjust the Injection Timing on the Pump if you need to

I was so happy It started and it ran but I needed to turn off as didn't want to much oil to spill out so didn't get chance to warm up.

Well done there mate, what motivated you to rebuild the engine like, if the engine in my Zx was to need rebuilding I would be tempted to just look for another engine to buy and put in 😃

I decided to challenge myself and I certainly manage to do that I've never done a full engine rebuild before so I just thought I would do it

Very Nice job! And contrata for that but why did you not swapped a xud9te in it?

At the time of doing it there was a few reasons 1st being I wanted to do the full engine rebuild 2nd I liked that engine for its fuel consumption aspects 3rd i was originally planning to keep it stock but I do now have other ideas just something I'm looking into that's all I'm saying for now.

How is the engine doing after 4 years?

How did you fix the rough idle? It was vibrating alot. I think your Idle speed is set too low ,i did it on mine. Increased idle speed and no vibrations at all. Amazing job !

friend, when you removed the engine, did you remove it with the gearbox or just the engine?
Is it very complex to remove only the motor?
excuse my English. i am using google translate.
I work on my citroen Xsara

I removed the engine and gearbox together as it was far easier for me to do it like that.
If you undo the exhaust then pop the driveshafts out and that just leaves a handful of electrical plugs a clutch cable and some hoses to undo.
Finally undo lower engine mounts from the subframe then just 2 bolts at the top and a fair bit of wiggling and it will lift straight out the top.
You can just remove the engine and leave the gearbox in the car but I personally think its easier to remove all at once and separate once out.
