Super stoked that you’re doing speaker comparisons now! Can’t wait to hear more. Might I also suggest doing a video on blending different speakers together? I think it would be interesting to hear speaker blends in the context of your general video format. Also, would love to hear you demo the Celestion G12 EVH and the Celestion Hempback. Cheers and I hope you get to feeling better!
They all sounded great and sat really nice with the mix! The V30 is the V30, the Redback is nice and smooth and almost a bit more pre-mixed sounding, and the creamback has that nice 90's/2000's air that I love. None of them would limit a great sounding recording. I also like that you're doing full riff rotations in the full mix so we can hear the full context of all the parts with a speaker.
Great video as always! in my book: V30 wins on almost all heavy parts (some riffs are better sounding on Creamback) Red Back wins on solo stuff Cream Back wins on clean tone (and few heavy riffs as well) Once more, great video, can wait for new editions of this comparisons...
Great job man! Sounds great! 1 suggestion for you, when you're using other speaker, they often have différents sweet spot for mic placing. Will be great to have them compared each other with same placement AND their optimal Mic placement for each of the speaker! Thanks!
My home practice 2x12 cab has a V30 + a Creamback in it. I love that combination. The Creamback brings that balanced and full squishiness to the sound while the V30 adds definition and clarity.
Great comparison!! I was really impressed by the hugeness of the redback. A blend of the V30 and the redback would probably sound really good. Great video!
Ive never heard the redback either. Sounded killer for some punk! I prefer the creamback for versatility and leads. V30, everyone loves it. My current favorite is the greenback though.
The Redback is a speaker I've been very very interested in. Especially in a 1x12 to use with a high wattage head as it can handle the beating. It has sounded great in every demo I've heard including this one.
All those speakers are great, the V30 and the Redback together are pretty gnarly! Currently I'm on a Hesu Demon kick and it's been hard to switch out speaker combos without them.
It would be interesting for you to adjust the amp’s eq to suit one speaker specifically. I doubt you would keep this amp eq if you were just using the Redback or Creamback. Now that we know what their general characteristics are. Great video!
Speakers are a funny thing. Mic'd and in the room sounds are very different. Number of speakers/Cab material, front/rear loading/ohms etc etc etc. But that's the fun part, isn't it? Tone is the journey! They all sound great, but singularly mic'd in this video I enjoyed the V30 the most. Which is surprising because I'm usually a 'back guy of sorts. But I do think combining is king! Glad you're feeling better, man!
Crazy...a while ago, I downloaded the free IR pack from Coffee Audio, which includes Redback and Creamback speakers. In this IR pack, the Redback is the thin and bright sounding one, almost reminiscent of a T75, whereas in your demo here, the Redback is the darkest sounding one.
Loving this series, will Jensens be next? As a self proclaimed audiophile I’m always interested in trying new speakers! Everything has its own flavor to add to the mix. Spice up your tone with speakers that has that something special to your ears!
Great Video! I think the H75 is very similar to the "good" sounding V30 from the early 2000s. They are a lot smoother and less harsh than the current V30s. The Redback is different...maybe some kind of a smoother K-100. I look forward to try one of these myself in the future. ...and yes, please more speaker videos!
One combination I’d lone to heat would be a 2 speaker cab with a 15” and a 10”, similar to the Fender Pano Verb Jack White amp. I wonder would it work, spreading tone over a wider frequency range? Or would it just get in the way of other instruments? The Pano Verb uses Jensen speakers, but id like to try Celestions.
If and when you do a Blended Speaker vid, might I recommend a good list? V30/Creamback M65/H75 V30/G12K85/100 V30/G12T75 V30/G12T100 Creamback/K85/K100 Creamback/T75/T100 Greenback/K85/100 Greenback/T75/100 Then of course the modern oddballs: Eminence DV-77 Lichtlaerm LCFR A V30 Type shootout could compare the V30 to: Eminence Red Patriot Emi Wizard Emi Governor for cheaper (and maybe louder?) supposed V30 alternatives. A Celestion Greenback Shootout/Blend with: G12M G12H30 G12-65 Compared to the Emi GB128 Warehouse Guitar Speakers ET-65 WGS Green Beret WGS Invader I’d personally really be interested in a good comparison between the Invader and a Greenback, as I wanted to blend a pair with G12K85s for a sort of all around brit/Marshall sound in an old Peavey VTM cab I have as normal 25w GBs would blow with the VTM120, but the 50w Invaders would handle it easy. Hope this gives some ideas/inspo, and thank you John, keep up the great work!! P.S. I think the new analog videos you’re doing are making you into the Second Coming of Johan Segeborn hahaha, more metal more modern but just as fantastic and diligent!
Could you somehow compare the sound of the exact same speaker, 1- in the iso cab vs, 2- in your 4x12? It would be really interesting to hear what difference the cab makes with an otherwise identical signal chain (guitar, amp, speaker, mics).
Pretty please, shoot out the Hempback, it was initially made in China but due to covid there was at least 1 batch that was made in the UK. Don't know how suitable they are for metal, but they seem (according to the eq) less mids and top highs than the V30's
Hey, would have been nice if you had changed up the order once you noticed the v30 & the cream back sounded similar, play them back to back and then the red back last as I think that would have shown the difference’s even better, thanks for the content.
Can you explain what you mean you "used IRs"? Did you make IRs from your ISO cab first? Why not just mic it up and put an amp through it? Mostly I wanted to hear if you get the same resonant whistles i get on some of these speakers which need to be notched out...
@SonicDriveStudio oh nice. If those only have hp and lp filters then I must be doing something wrong in my mic placement or amp dialing. (I always have resonances in the upper mids)
The Redback is cool but adjusting the amp accordingly would work the best. Just adding some treble to compensate would work. It also depends on the amp etc
The redback is a NO for me especially considering that my main amp is a Mesa mark series, the midrange character isn't right for my ears or my amp. I prefer the creamback somewhat over the V30. My favorite speaker is a Mesa C90, i also quite like greenbacks

Thanks, feeling much better now! I got an EVH Celestion, can't wait to try it!

Top tier stuff. Speakers are the most important thing, and speaker shootouts are the most helpful and interesting type of gear video.
Tasty comparison!
For me:
1. Creamback
2. V30
3. Redback
Perfect timing. Just blew the speaker in a 1x12 Mesa cab that had a V30 I always found a bit brittle. That Creamback sounds great.
Great video as always!
in my book:

Thank you! Yes, planning on showing a lot more speakers!

V30 is always my favorite, but that creamback is definitely my 2nd favorite.
Redback is glorious. Love it.
Dude. This is amazing!
V30 all day. The Creamback was surprisingly good though
Ive never heard the redback either. Sounded killer for some punk! I prefer the creamback for versatility and leads. V30, everyone loves it. My current favorite is the greenback though.

Love my Hesu Demon!

Now that we know what their general characteristics are.
Great video!
No need to bear with. I've been anxious to see this uploaded.
Hope you enjoy this new series!
I love that creamback

Thanks buddy! Luckily I'm feeling much better. This was recorded when I was pretty sick haha

I guess that's how they mic'ed it up? It's far from thin sounding....
Loving this series, will Jensens be next? As a self proclaimed audiophile I’m always interested in trying new speakers! Everything has its own flavor to add to the mix.
Spice up your tone with speakers that has that something special to your ears!
I have 2 Jensen speakers on the way! Have a couple Fanes as well, Eminence too etc
@ awesome!!! Rock on Sir
When are we gonna be addressing the Diezel VH4 that's been in the background for a while now?
Also this was a great comparison!
@demseyemson9831 haven't had time to review it but I used it in a video recently already
@SonicDriveStudio oh damn I must've missed that 😅
@demseyemson9831 it's the Valiant Jupiter review from a week or two ago

My V30 is a very recent one (from China) and I think it sounds amazing tbh!
I preferred the Cremeback, as it didn't sound like it was in a box. 🤷
One combination I’d lone to heat would be a 2 speaker cab with a 15” and a 10”, similar to the Fender Pano Verb Jack White amp. I wonder would it work, spreading tone over a wider frequency range? Finally the Redback. Redback in 2x12 oversized is awesome and replaced my engl 412 v30
If and when you do a Blended Speaker vid, might I recommend a good list?

V30/G12K85/100
V30/G12T75
V30/G12T100
Creamback/K85/K100
Creamback/T75/T100
Greenback/K85/100
Greenback/T75/100
Then of course the modern oddballs:
Eminence DV-77
Lichtlaerm LCFR
A V30 Type shootout could compare the V30 to:
Eminence Red Patriot
Emi Wizard
Emi Governor
for cheaper (and maybe louder?) supposed V30 alternatives.
A Celestion Greenback Shootout/Blend with:
G12M
G12H30
G12-65
Compared to the Emi GB128
Warehouse Guitar Speakers ET-65
WGS Green Beret
WGS Invader
I’d personally really be interested in a good comparison between the Invader and a Greenback, as I wanted to blend a pair with G12K85s for a sort of all around brit/Marshall sound in an old Peavey VTM cab I have as normal 25w GBs would blow with the VTM120, but the 50w Invaders would handle it easy.

🔥 Another good one
Amazing stuff! V30 is my personal flavor! Please don’t do IR anymore 🎉we want the real thing as today
Real thing is a real thing,but..how are you gonna use it?...anyways,its nice to hear real cabs and mics
For modeling stuff I will still use IRs, but I'll use IRs that I shot from my own cab for the most part in those cases
Hey, would have been nice if you had changed up the order once you noticed the v30 & the cream back sounded similar, play them back to back and then the red back last as I think that would have shown the difference’s even better, thanks for the content.

Everything that you hear in this video is real speakers. No IRs were used
@SonicDriveStudio oh nice. If those only have hp and lp filters then I must be doing something wrong in my mic placement or amp dialing. (I always have resonances in the upper mids)
@aheadofmetal only a low cut
Creamback ❤
So Glenn might be right today?
If his opinion is that you can change a tone in a cool way by swapping speakers? Sure!
If it possible to share these wave files, that must be better ,so i can compare it in my DAW.
Creambacks were decent, but those notes just glistened from the Vintage 30. The Redbacks sounded terrible.
I prefer the V30 and the creamback speakers. The redback lacks upper mids and highs.
The Redback is cool but adjusting the amp accordingly would work the best. Just adding some treble to compensate would work. It also depends on the amp etc
Creamback for me.
I prefer the Vintage 30s, followed by the Creambacks
That video quality
The redback is a NO for me especially considering that my main amp is a Mesa mark series, the midrange character isn't right for my ears or my amp. I prefer the creamback somewhat over the V30. My favorite speaker is a Mesa C90, i also quite like greenbacks
I was surprised I preferred the V30.
It's a classic for a reason! :)
@@SonicDriveStudio Is it really necessary to get an older one made in Uk, or the mesa UK version, or are the new Chinese just fine?
I l8ke the cream
V30
everything other than the V30 sounds bad for metal.
