Welcome to the Austrian German Tutorial. In this video we are going to talk about beer in Austria. First, we learn typical types of Austrian beer, second we check out the amounts you get in bars and then we take a look at beer in Supermarkets.
The learning goal of this tutorial us to get an insight into the topic beer in Austria.
In general, beer means bier in Austrian German. The pronunciation is very similar but the spelling is slightly different.
First of all, let's start with some common types of beer in Austria.
Märzen: Märzen is a traditional Austrian lager style beer. It's characterized by a medium to full body, malty flavor, and a dry finish. Historically, Märzen was brewed in March (hence the name, which means "März in German) and was kept in cool cellars over the summer months.
Zwickl: Zwickl beer is an unfiltered, unpasteurized lager beer. It's typically served directly from the fermentation or conditioning tank, giving it a fresher and slightly cloudy appearance compared to filtered lagers..

Luckily, I knew a very important sentence while I was in Bavaria (exactly in the peak of Großer Osser), before this video came to existence:
"Servus, konn I um a Mass bittn?"

Radler with Almdudler? That's called "Alm-Radler" to my knowledge, a normal radler is more commonly with a sort of orange lemonade instead. (like Fanta or Frucade)
While in styria and parts of carinthia there is another thing: a "Radler" that isn't yellow but red because the beer is mixed with a red soda (raspberry lemonade) and the drink is called a "Sauschneider". Not sure if i should translate that...
(it's the decriptive name for the guy who castrated male pigs on a farm in earlier times)
