Great advice. When things go wrong it can happen so quick, and there is no time to think, fear and panic is your enemy.
I'm all for prevention, avoid incedents and be pre pared for worst case with some plan of action.

That’s right you need a plan and know how to deal with a situation.

Absolutely! I also have a heeling stick to give that other dog a sharp painful snap on the ass. I don't give two shits about the other dog owner's feelings because they sure as hell didn't care about the welfare of my dogs or the welfare of their dog.
In fact, they should thank me for saving them a potential vet bill or litigation and fines because their dog harassed and or tried to attack a service dog. I don't have time to suffer fools.
I have chronic pain, but I can be strong as hell when needed. This was a good discussion.

Another person may have a lawyer ready to sue you, so be prepared. If you do NOT 'suffer fools' then you are going to run across one soon enough. And they may have a lawyer ready to file a lawsuit, so get ready.

If their dog is off lead, they're at fault. @@DougHinVA (Doug who mindlessly comments on Ridgeside llc's posts) Attacking a service dog is a misdemeanor in my state, if anyone should get ready, it's the asshole whose dog is off lead and is interfering with my dog doing its job.

none of the comments contain a reference to pepper spray or a handgun or a real dog fight. I was in 4 of them and in every case the owners of the other dog did nothing at all to help. I used pepper spray and when police asked me questions I told the truth... my dog was leashed and on an electronic collar and I followed the law and common sense to protect my own dog. In no case did police pursue a court trial or hearing from me. I followed the law and it is posted in the parks where I take my dog on leash and protected all the time.

The need to carry a gun and pepper spray is very extreme. Both these things would be illegal to carry in my town, not sure where you live but it sounds very different to here.

what the law is where you live has nothing to do with the laws where I live.

I realise that I’m explaining how different things are here that’s all.

'here' makes no difference to youtube viewers ... they are in the USA, in Canada, in England and other countries and very few are pro dog trainers. What YOU think makes no difference to viewers passing through ...

Yesterday I had 3 dogs off lead in a public area that were aggressive in their barking at my dog I had to avert her and redirect in the opposite direction and I will be asking council rangers to start policing off lead dogs in lead only areas. I'm feeling more confident with my slip lead and control over her now from your training and tips Jason. Looking forward to learning and training to the next level.

Good luck getting any action from your council. Our council on the surfcoast is hopeless at policing on leash areas. I feel so deflated when what you described in your comment happens. It sounds like you did an awesome job redirecting your dog:)

Yes, it's a shame we have to worry about these what-if moments. Rainbows, butterflies, and laughing off non compliance are ridiculous practices. Being alert watching other dogs and their owners in the vicinity is my method. To keep my dogs safe, we exercise in open areas. This way, I can keep a look out for approaching dogs. I don't ever trust owners who use flexi leads. The level of control they have of their dog is very misleading. Thanks, shiny Bean, you're very cute:)
