The apology comes too late, but I am still happy he made it. There are three camps of idubbbz fans-the ones that liked the goofy but not the slurs, the ones that liked the slurs, and the ones that liked both. Unfortunately, the portion of his fanbase that followed him for the slurs and edgelord humor are the kind of people that take offense to anyone “breaking ranks” and developing a compassionate bone or even a hint of empathy. Ian attracted apathetic, mean, nasty people who in fact went on to bully other people, and rationalized it by acting like it was the victim’s fault if they got upset, that ‘words don’t have power if you don’t give it power’, and all that shit said by people that have never been on the receiving end of hate in their life (and no, ‘radical ‘man hating’ sjw feminists’ don’t count).
Then they call him a cuck because his GF does onlyfans, which proves how unimaginative and one track minded they are: all they can think about is ‘beta cuck’ and ‘I should be able to be mean and rude to minorities without consequence’. Ian also created a climate that seemed eager to dogpile on anyone who was the least bit cringe or vulnerable, so Ian, being insecure himself, tried to head that off at the pass by calling it out first. And now that he’s mellowed out, those edgy fans turn on him. How predictable.

  • @kazakukog

he is 100% genuine. been watching him on and off for years, i was into his content (yes, i know... but i always just saw it as haha dark humour not my actual way of seeing the world? i was also a preteen lol)
he's been "arguing" with his edgier fan base for a while. especially because of his gf Anisa who did and/or does OF, so alllll the edgy boys started to call him a simp, a cuck, and just started to bully him, saying he became what he used to make fun for. he made a video about it and basically said "wtf is wrong with y'all" but the edgy ppl didn't care. this is just one instance, there are more, even earlier in the days (when he critiqued his fan base or even himself for being too edgy/unfunny).
same thing happend to filthy frank. he was 10 times "worse" than ian and when he finally stopped making content and started music, his edgy fan base started laughing at him too. he never really adressed his shift from what i know.
ian observed this, what type of people he attracted and for sure saw it was getting serious and dangerous.
i am so happy for him and his growth.

As a black person who grew up in predominantly white areas I have zero tolerance for racism. idubbz is a grown man, I’m tired of these problematic content creators acting like they’re oblivious to the large affects racism and homophobia have. And the narrative that they had good intentions is just bs to me, how is making racist and homophobic jokes conveying any good intentions?? I’m sorry but I do not forgive racism ever, there is no excuse or reasoning in the world to try to explain yourself for your behavior. I’m not saying people can’t change and I can give credit where it’s due, but at the end of the day racist behavior will forever be harmful whether it’s in the past or the present.

You’re right. Ian addressed that whatever his ‘intentions’, he was being an idiot and self-important and contributing to bigotry by trying to normalize the use of slurs. But ai think you misunderstand: it is not that he didn’t know how harmful racism was, it’s that he didn’t really care, which is a huge difference of intention. He fully acknowledges it and that nothing he can say or do will make up for it, which is sort of a bit of consolation for me. It’s infinitely better than someone wanting praise for trying to be better. I don’t think he’s looking for that, or begging for forgiveness. He is apologizing because it’s the right thing to do, without expectation of being forgiven. He knows that many people will not forgive him, and you have the right to not forgive him because you were the one hurt. He knows that and will have to live with knowing he created such a bigoted community on the internet that spilled over into real life. Guilt is of course something that it’s intangible and not a good enough punishment for many, but unfortunately we can’t prosecute him for saying slurs.

You’re 1000% right. I feel like a lot of non black people don’t get that a lot of his “comedy” had a massive and irreparable contribution to the alt-right pipeline of TH-cam. Like first it was him, then probably an anti sjw TH-camr like Shoe0nHead (if you’re familiar with her), then right wing pundits like Steven Crowder, Candice Jones, Blair White, Matt Walsh, and Ben Shapiro, Alex Jones ect. and finally those “race realists” that spew white nationalist rhetoric and call for violence. And we’ve seen people actually get killed due to racially motivated mass killings because of this pipeline in the past 10 years, and there is a direct link to creators who pushed these people through these pipelines in conjunction with TH-cams’s screwed up algorithms. It’s like the people who didn’t have to worry about a non black kid justifying saying the N word with a video he made don’t have a say. As a black kid who grew up in a nearly all white area during this edgy era of TH-cam as well, his apology was way too late. And while I’m glad he’s grown, he will never even be able to fully reverse the trauma and hurt and pain he has caused onto minorities in this lifetime.

I never watched Idubbz. I knew of him but was never intrested in his content. I don't expect people who were affected by his content to forgive and forget however in our current post Andrew Tate internet, I think this kind of honesty coming from someone as popular as he was, is important. We can all see these edgy jerks are insecure and pathetic but it's always harder to admit it within yourself. People will deny and deny because it's too painful to admit you were hurtful/wrong. The bigger/popular you are, the harder it probably is to publicly admit it. I think this video was very genuine and shows a lot of growth and his part. I think this is a good start and most importantly a good example to the young edgelords that watch him. If he can admit it and try to be better, so can they. I hope some of his audience is able to reflect in the same way. I hope some of the similar creators can too because Idubbz is sadly not the only one who made/makes cruel content.

I think this apology is awesome. I believe that mentality of “i dont forgive him because he still said it” is hurtful to good causes. We call ignorant or raised badly to people who are racist (and they are) but when they begin to gain empathy, maturity and accountability for their previous racism many reject it. Individually of course everyone can forgive or not as they see fit. But as a society, we need more of this. We all understand systems of racism and bigotry are so embedded, especially when youre a privileged white male its a system that benefits you so it’s obvious some tropes will automatically be in you, and though that is not an excuse, in order for human and societal progress into equality, i think we need to be more forgiving when its genuine which this seems to be or if not whats the point of any of it? Isnt change and progression and accountability the goal?

Coping is like trying ta deal with something really personal by distancing yourself, kinda like escapism. People cope with drugs, dissassociating etc. It's technically coping mechanisms. It doesn't always have to be toxic or avoidance seeking but it usually is. It could be daydreaming, meditation, visualization exercises it depends, just trying to deal with something. I really respect I dubbz for this apology, b'cuz he really acknowledged his mistakes n is fully aware of his impact. And he came to tht conclusion on his own for the most part. Im sure ppl tried telling him at different times in his life and he didn't see it, but that's life and how people work. Ppl have really high expectations for influencers and I understand why, but people don't apologize like this in day to day life. Ppl are constantly holding influencers to the highest standards they couldnt even meet themselves, and sure theyre actions and behaivors affect a larger amount of people, and a lot of times they dont care to change, but want to keep support. It's not necessary ta make a perfect apology depending on most situations. But he got pretty close and did so of his own accord and thats admirable. Whether I or anyone likes him or his content we need to allow ppl to grow and change. I feel bad because a lot of his audience past n some present are really taking his change and denouncing his past content personally, and aren't happy. Irregardless of whether ppl belive content cop was inherently bad, he does and that's what matters. He fostered a community where ppl cld hide behind humor and used him to validate their own toxic behaviors. I wldnt even say the majority of his audience where like tht, but then again only I dubbz knows as he saw his own impact first hand. It doesn't matter if it's not the majority, a minority in an audience of his size is still pretty large. N honestly there are a lot of ppl like I dubbz who don't recognize that their behavior impacts ppl negatively, b'cuz it doesn't impact themselves personally, and sometimes it affecting themselves personally is what it takes to understand that words have weight and affect ppl. Everyone likes to harp on actions speak louder then words, n yes that's true a lot of the time, but words are not insignificant.

The full tana story was she was saying the N word for years and then was a hypocrite and called someone a racist and hateful for using that word and so he went there and said that "saaaay (the N word)" and then she makes a story time video exaggerating because she didn't know who he was and she said he held her in a chokehold which was a lie because he took a video of the encounter. And so she got called out again for lying and exaggerating her stories and especially when it comes to feeling like you have been assaulted as a woman... She could disagree and hate what he said but she doesn't have to lie about what he's done to her, he just put his hands around her back and said that phrase and then walked away and she made it out to look and sound a lot worse. THAT is the full context of that story.

What I find interesting about the case of idubbz is he willingly stepped away from content cop because he saw what his audience and impact was from that organically and was disgusted even though he was making crazy money off it. He’s been taking steps back since rice gum even tho no one was asking him to do it… I do believe he’s genuine but I’m not the people who was affected by his bad actions so I can’t be the one to forgive him

Tbh, I was shocked that things always seemed so acceptable whenever iDubbz said controversial, edgy things. Like other creators would be called, but for some reason, no one hardly ever called out iDubbz. In regards to the Tana situation, I think they're both guilty. Tana's just an awful hypocritical person in general, and iDubbz was being stupid.

  • @lilyD11
    @lilyD11 ปีที่แล้ว

I am going to be honest, i didnt watch him before or was a fan however just by looking at his old content i do see some hypocrisy. I get that people grow up and change opinions however to bash everything that bilt you up to where you are and still use words like the R word as an insult and charry picking clips for his "apology" video where if you go back to the same clips he has shown and just look at a few frams back it is blatantly contradictory and not addressed things fully i would feel like it would be a slap in the face for some of his fans. So as an outsider this reads to me as a bit misleading... I dont agree with everything i have done or said in the past today but i do understand why i held those opinions at the time and i dont regret having an old opinion because i was still learning... And this is whats being talked about honestly, its all opinions. You cant say hey, I was on this journey to find my something and then regret the journey if you are happy you reached the outcome of that journe. It means you are more understanding today and as a result this reads as damage control and less about learning from your past and walking through how you changed your mind about big talking topics.

I feel like most people already said it. On the positive side, I did appreciate him showing what he said on the boxing podcast and saying that he was still making excuses at the time for something that was dumb and should have never been done. He acknowledged his stupidity and I appreciate that. However, I view his content at that time as equal to Shane Dawson’s content. I wasn’t aware of his videos until the Tana thing but after looking through some of them, he was the typical cis straight white male offending every community the way that Shane Dawson did (I know Shane is not straight now but back then he was viewed that way and they both used homophobic, ableist and racial slurs). When it came to Jenna Marbles, she ended up proving in the video that she was not doing blackface and she just had a tan that looked darker and made it look like she darkened her skin to mimic Nicki Minaj. Jenna Marbles had nothing to apologize for when it came to the black community and I am still mad at the people who falsely accused her of black face. She did make Asian jokes and slut shame jokes which are not things I can accept but that is why I personally can “forgive” Jenna (even though she had nothing to apologize for in my opinion). But with Shane and idubbz the content that they made goes SO deep with the offensive content. They built their platform off offending these communities.

It seems to me he’s trying to position himself as above his fans. Like he says multiple times he realized his content was problematic when his fans were actually racist and homophobic shocker 😮. If you make racist and homophobic jokes you’re opening your content up to people who are bigots. I don’t believe he himself isnt a bigot considering the fact it takes one to make the kind of content he did. I don’t like the fact he tries to alienate himself from his fan base which he literally created and inspired to go out into the world and spew his bigotry. He is SO MUCH WORSE than any of his viewers because he was literally there leader. All he had to do was read the comments on his video to know what he stood for was wrong. His apology was not good enough and I don’t think it was genuine if he truly had grown he’d admit he was a bigot not just pretending to be one.

People wanted an apology. He had drama for kicking froggy fresh from the creator clash for making comments towards his wife and training with someone he dislikes with this people started calling him a hypocrite because he’s never addressed his content cop content or that he had changed his views, yes he passively did so but it was never addressed prior too. It wasn’t out of no where’s and not anything like the Jenna marbles situation.

In my opinion, he's apologizing now because he's afraid of the woke mob, which is sad. Somewhere, there will always be someone offended. This is how comedy dies. Well, comedy worth watching at least. I dont know who this guy is but I know most influencers are afraid to say anything because of the woke mob.
