i think a lot of the "cut" content from main videos were pretty funny. i still love the one where he's dressed in a spongebob onesie at toys-r-us. the little skits and outtake videos are timeless.
Crazy to think about this era, specifically Filthy Frank, MaxMoeFoe, and Idubbz and how they all branched off from their original content together. Frank becoming a top music artist, Max and Anything4views starting an australian drinking show, Idubbz making content cop, then full on documentaries on obscure people, to hosting a TH-camr MMA fight. Truly a batch of legends that were all at one point playing torture twister and eating a cake made from idubbz hair, and all of this history documented on TH-cam to go back and watch. Absolutely amazing.
Whenever it got serious (too much pain or gross shit) it was obvious these guys had limits, so it helped ground the videos from "gross, insane shit" to "friends being stupid together"
I agree honestly, a lot of the largest/most popular twitch streamers hardly interact with their audience and their streams consist of them eating and watching a show. Remember the era of folks getting banned for streaming pay per view shows? Wasn't too long ago. Now this wouldn't be a big deal if these people added something to the content, but a lot of it is just them watching and eating, and maybe replying to something in chat every couple minutes. It's quite literally the definition of washed up.
The resurgence first happened on TH-cam. Pewdiepie and a lot of creators turned to reaction based content after Jinx got nuked. It's sad but he seems to be chilling about it.
@JOMAUN JACKSON The issue was Jinx was not crediting the original uploaders, he had no permission to do so & would continue when others asked him to not make videos with their content, and he was pretending like he WAS providing content and his videos were fair use, which in his case is absolutely not true. You cannot play a video in full and not transform the content. Adding your face on the corner and laughing now and then is not transformative.
Once they started enforcing such strict censorship, I was always surprised at how little content creators tried to fight it. If enough big channels had protested, I don’t think it would be as bad.
I debate that idea. Wojacky is beholden to no one on this platform. And doesn’t care about anyone that uses it. Only advertisers and traditional media. Just look at how TH-cam reacted to removing dislikes, EVERYONE hated it yet they dug their heads in the sand.
Well now youtube is shit. I'm even getting twitter tier content warnings before posting type shit, we should never get comfortable with censorship unless its towards something that is verifiably criminal and tangible to the real world. Like its not a skit type shit, or its just fiction.
@@jacobrzeszewski6527 this, she does not understand TH-cam culture or what originally made it great and instead runs it like a business. She wants it to become a sanitized content farm that generates as many views on each video and therefore ad rev as possible.

I think it's legitimately diffucult to draw the precise line between what is reasonable and fair criticism and what is bullying so they just went the strict/safe/lazy route and banned it all. That continued with disabling dislikes

2016-2017 internet truly was somethng else. I was 13 to 14 at the time, the perfect age for that era in the sense that everything felt so risky and edgy, which is something teenagers that age really like. I miss those days but at the same time I understand that an outsider would have a hard time trying to fit in
It's funny because I'm 20 years older than you and we really used to get down back in the day. You could do anything because most people didn't have internet. You're right that it died after that though. Everyone turned into a hyper political lunatic and nobody can have fun anymore. I suppose it does make sense though because people are the poorest they've been in decades, so their anger is going to come to the forefront and lash out.
Great video!! Never heard of you before but wanted to look back at Content Cop and found this. And while this has nothing to do with the content, I love your sign off. It took me completely off guard.
The way idubbbz portrays himself to the world is so much different now. I can't figure out which version of him is more like his real life personality. Like, is he an edgy edge lord, or is he a reserved nerdy guy with a mustache and glasses, who cares more about what advertisers and brands think than anything else? Is he somewhere in the middle? The world may never know....
He is a nerdy edgy guy who got older and got married, there's more at stake for him now so it's understandable why he mellowed out. At least that's what i like to think.
@Kamu having a wife that is a sex worker even though she isn't desperate for money shows an intense personality problem. We know it is not normal and he knows it. It is humiliating. For him to stay with a sex worker shows a very strange flaw in his personality. I think people just can't take him seriously anymore after having such a major part of his life like his wife doing something so socially rejected without the desperation that people normally do sex work have. It is just strange and does really damage his credibility.
Hahaha 17:43 he's got the flag in the background when talking about the Fine Bros. And probably the funniest thing I remember Idubs doing was calling his calling his doctor a jew.
Ian was / is one of the last remnants of the awesomeness that TH-cam was before 2020 who’s still being talked about today. His videos, even the shorter and obviously rushed and or lower effort ones, were always at the very least humorous and enjoyable and most were hilarious and even re-watchable. I never once fast forwarded or clicked the arrow to skip to the next video while watching a “Content cop” episode. It was always good enough that it kept my attention from start to end at the very least and, at least to me, that’s the definition of entertainment….which is the whole reason for non educational content. He put effort and thought into every video and it was obvious. There was no clickbait (unless it was a super obvious parody on clickbait TH-camrs) that left you feeling let down or irritated after watching and everyone just had a good time. I wish there was more simple, well produced entertainment on YT these days and less “creators” speaking their cookie cutter useless opinion on whatever they see is trending in analytics right now. I can’t stand the way they all post audio of them talking in either a dreary monotone or WAY over excited tone of voice over a looped video of them playing some video game that they just use so you’re not staring at a blank screen.
Dang so even in 2015 Ian was willing to get punched in the face for charity against someone who really doesn’t like him? He’s got balls. Dr Mike doesn’t hate him but he’s strong AND a boxer.. so that’s kind of scarier in a way haha
As to your point about Leafy's initial disappearance, EmpLemon's fantastic video on Leafy presents a pretty compelling theory that Leafy was an early victim of demonetization. To cut a long story very short, basically the theory poses TH-cam executives actually targeted Leafy's channel because of his content, slowly tweaking his video's visibility and more or less stopping his reach from extending upon his (then) core subscriber base. I definitely recommend checking it out, it's a pretty solid theory.
I appreciate the way you write scripts. Keeping everything respectful and politically mindful makes it able to be appreciated by a wider variety of people trying to reminisce on past times where that kinda stuff wasn’t as payed attention to. It also doesn’t take anyone out of the story you’re telling, and keeps the pace of video consistent and entertaining, so just know it’s noticed and appreciated. Good video
there still are decent channels but youtube keeps them on the downlow so it's somewhat hard to find them. EmpLemon, tom, ssethtzeentach, E;R, nerd city, max0r, internet historian, pyro's content is still great, youtube just really likes fucking some of these channels up and stagnating their growth
@@blurryperson2685 well, they for sure didn't remove the dislike count because people got offended, if anything, the majority of youtubers were against that, but youtube doesn't care, can't have dislikes on godawful "talk shows", or trailers for shitty pedowood movies

Something that absolutely blows me away about the whole Jinx thing is that he and other channels like his were *universally despised* back then. Now damn near every single one of the top 10 Twitch streamers does the *exact* same thing as Jinx and people still love them. They're even worse. They don't even just watch TH-cam videos. They just straight up watch TV shows and movies. Sometimes, they aren't even there "reacting," they'll just straight up walk away for like 10 minutes at a time. That really shows just how far the online "influencer" world has fallen when things that were once universally despised are now praised. It really makes me sad. The thing is, most of the fans of Hasan, Pokimane, Toast, etc are too young to have even been around when Jinx was doing his thing.
tv meta also gives streamers a bit of a break and is usually a small stream segment. Its not really the same, if you ever watched twitch for more than 10 minutes you’d understand. Even back then idk why people were so mad about jinx, no one was making you watch shitty content.
@@levibergbower3769 yeaaah.... What about turning off the stream or put a brb screen? They leave the stream up to earn more of a profit, heck they can react all they want but it's gotta be transformative. Which they don't do because it's way easier to just not do nothing while someone else's content is playing to entertain their viewers. So someone like Hasan or anyone that is a socialist or communist in twitch is a hypocrite for essentially profiting from someone else's hard work just like a capitalist. And it's not just a 10 min break, it's more like just not talking for some videos or eating on stream. It's a garbage thing to do especially if your ideology is suppose to oppose that
@Xbox One it depends on how transformative it is really. Jinx didn't transform anything and just violated copyright. I haven't watched PewDiePie since ever and I don't know if he streams but I'm guessing his TH-cam videos are edited to the point where he is shown reacting a ton to a point that he has transformed it rather than watching the full video
When I look at the past youtube, the website design, less ads, less strict community guidelines, and etc., it makes me feel joyful. Anybody would enjoy this type of content that was made back then including myself. Now I can still get some level of entertainment on youtube, but compared to the drama and creative comedy that was made 5-8 years ago, it just makes youtube boring and unfun nowadays.
Love your vids my dude. Don't really watch any of the folks you cover, but I was completely unaware of this side of youtube, and I've been on the platform since launch. It's great. Basically The "Basic B." segment of TH-cam...
Although I miss the 'old days' of youtube, atleast of Idubbbz, his new content is real interesting. Like his documentaries, you can still see that the level of creativity and commitment put on in those videos.
This video reminds me just how much TH-cam diversity has died over the years. Comedy skits and video game let's plays (mostly Minecraft) were among the most popular videos of the early 2010s, but we started seeing all these different genres emerge in the mid-2010s. By 2013, STEM channels like SciShow, numberphile, and minutephysics were really popular and later memed about, but they stopped being talked about by 2018. Here we see reaction channels, food reviews, "social experiment" pranks, children exploitations, and so much more that came and went, and nothing really came in their place (fortunately) except some momentary movements like mukbang in 2018. But there was a huge wave of youtubers in this period... Filthy Frank, idubbz, GradeAUnderA, H3H3... there were seemingly countless TH-camrs of this era that took the platform by storm, and they all just about disappeared by 2018. It's crazy. It hasn't felt the same since.
Yes, watch the video, he explains it. Ian didn't do it out of hatred and the nword is just a word like any other word. All people should be treated equally so saying the nword can only be said by certain races is in of itself racist. (by definition)

Yea fuck no it was popular to hate leafy for his whole career. The hiss shit was really unpopular outside the commentary community and majority of ppl inside the community hated him for like 6months before the idubbz vid
Nah, I'd argue he was. He was getting millions of views per video and most of my friends back then watched his content and knew about him. Not to mention all the hissing going on in comment sections and mentions of his community by other YTers/raids... wasn't until the one video he made on the autistic guy, and everything after, that his community turned against him (I personally just stopped watching him as I felt the video quality dropped off). Not sure how you felt about him so I'm going to assume here, but just because you didn't like him doesn't change the fact that the statement in question is actually pretty true.

Funnily enough, we're seeing a sort of resurgence of Jinx type content with twitch streamers these days. Funny how history likes to repeat itself.
@@spaceguy9337 I thought twitch streamers played games mostly?
@JOMAUN JACKSON The issue was Jinx was not crediting the original uploaders, he had no permission to do so & would continue when others asked him to not make videos with their content, and he was pretending like he WAS providing content and his videos were fair use, which in his case is absolutely not true.

They call it the TV meta and it's a lazy way to make content as a streamer
It will go away soon once one of these companies sue twitch. Then it will be like TH-cam 2.0 with it's copyrights
tv meta also gives streamers a bit of a break and is usually a small stream segment. Its not really the same, if you ever watched twitch for more than 10 minutes you’d understand. Even back then idk why people were so mad about jinx, no one was making you watch shitty content.
@@levibergbower3769 yeaaah.... What about turning off the stream or put a brb screen? It's crazy.
