    Crying over your hair is a milestone for every black person or anyone with a tight curl pattern. I’ll be so mad I’ll start staring at the razor, like I could end this with one button.

      I've never cried over my hair. That's not a brag, though. It's just that when something doesn't turn out how I want, I'm usually far too angry to be able to even get to the tears; I just silently rage.
      StarPuppy's hair honestly turned out super cute, though. We are our own worst critics.

    This is one of my favorite videos on TH-cam. Let’s pretend for a minute that her hair looks terrible (which is a stretch- her hair looks great). One of the problems with social media is that people present their best selves, their good hair days, the great makeover, the great vacations, the astounding weight loss, etc. This makes a lot of people feel inadequate and depressed, not realizing that what’s presented is highly edited.
    Showing disappointment is rare and honest. Not only does it denote strength, but it’s also very helpful to people who are struggling, since we all face a lot of disappointments before finding the right formula for success. That’s what makes this video great. Thanks!

    The raw emotion in this video is definitely going to help so many Black girls who feel frustration with their natural hair. I know for sure it would've helped me, because I remember getting sooo frustrated with my hair when I was younger and just not understanding why & feeling so alone with my anger. So thank you so much for this! Finally feeing like someone sees me!

  • @jaimeewatson98
    @jaimeewatson98 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2024

    so sad cause the whole time I was screaming "it's okay it's coming out cute!" and you were not having it. I, being a black girl in her 20's, totally understand the love-hate relationship with our naptural hair especially since a lot of styles make us look like aunties and old ladies. And you're right, in society and mind full of expectations, it can be so discouraging. But one must learn that your appearance doesn't make one beautiful (although it helps), but your confidence is. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing the reality about not only bantu knots but also birthdays.

      I honestly saw NOTHING wrong with it. She's a very pretty girl - she could shave her head and still look pretty. But honestly, hair problems come in all races. I am white and have been in tears my ENTIRE life because of my hair. My father's side of the family were all blessed with thick locks and there I was with ridiculously thin hair - can't even make a braid. My hair wouldn't even grow past my shoulders if I tried. Her hair, by comparison, is thick.

    "I Decided" . . . Best phrase you can learn in your 20's and hold it tight until you leave this realm. You may not always feel, but you always get to decide. Unfortunately, we are taught to feel first and make decisions based upon that. And that would be cool if we were not so over stimulated on BS and conditioned to be so insecure and conditioned to constantly compare ourselves to things that don't even exist outside of a script or a good PR team. But when you Decide to be happy first; decide to love every bit of yourself (which is so much more than the physical) first; decide to enjoy life first, and you keep deciding first until your feelings and your emotions become aligned . . . When you Decide first how you want to feel and then behave accordingly, all I can say is get ready ❤ Too many people never learn this and spend too much time suffering.

    I understand this frustration and the tears so much. Thank you for being so real about the 4c hair struggle. I have absolutely no regrets about going natural, but that doesn't mean that I instantly love my 4c hair. Trying to replicate the twist outs, bantu knot outs and every other 4c tutorial from TH-cam always left me in tears because none of them EVER worked for me. Also, your "failed" bantu knot out looked SO much better than anything I ever tried.

    You actually just reminded me of how frustrated I was 2 years ago when I started my natural hair journey. I would cry alone in my room because I knew I was doing everything wrong to my hair because I didn't have enough money to buy all these fancy natural hair products I saw on most youtube channels. My hair would fall out and was extremely dry and flaky. At that point I was so furious I wasn't looking like the girls on Instagram and on TH-cam. Now do I only realise I was being unreasonable and too hard on myself at the time but I think it was necessary for me to be in that state because I really had a goal and I was willing to do anything to achieve it. Now I can actually just reflect and say comparison really did steal my joy. Clearly not all things work out the way we want them to. I'm so glad I accidentally found your channel today. 😢im so sorry. I’m losing my hair on the right/ front side and my hair line is receding because of alopecia. Trying to style my hair sucks and I just cry. My hair just reminds me that I have to find a style that will hide my huge first sized bald spot but I can’t hide my hairline except with bangs but bangs give me acne so it’s just frustrating. Wigs have given me the confidence back but I really really love my natural hair I love playing in it it’s so soft and unique. I can’t put the combs in my hair from wigs on my right side anymore as a glueless method because there’s no hair there for it to clip to anymore so I’ve been getting my wigs sewn on to keep it in place. And my natural hair almost never come out right. And when it does it just gets destroyed that same night. My natural hair is beautiful don’t get me wrong and it’s very healthy for the most part. But I feel your pain I’m glad the rest of your day was better. Happy birthday ❤️

      I can relate. I have another medical condition that causes hair loss. On top of that, genetics is not on my side. So on top of dealing with hairstyle failures, I have to deal with hair loss. I can't even wear wigs now because the slightest bit of pressure gives me headaches. I just don't know what to do anymore. But I just try to focus on my health and hopefully my hair will grow fuller.

      I have alopecia too and I know exactly what you are saying. Trying to hide the bald spots, I started wearing head wraps constantly. I ended up messing my edges up. Sometimes you can’t win.

    "My ends looked like abstract art." I feel you so hard on that one. I'm loc'd now but whenever I did a failed style on my 4c hair (pretty much every time), I had the same kind of hair combs I would use to scoop it back so it looked decent or throw a scarf on. I know it can be really disappointing but you looked fabulous. I love your editing.

    This is beautiful and so are you. Thank you for sharing such a genuine and vulnerable moment and also showing us the realness. Hairstyles do not always come out the way that we plan, and sometimes it takes a little more effort to love ourselves and what we see in the mirror even when everyone else sees only the best. I am inspired by how you allowed yourself to feel what you were feeling and then made the decision to have an awesome birthday. :)
