Rich between the prep for crests on a glass and steaming necks then storing away, this is very helpful. Rich it sounded rude when i told you not to worry about anseering me because i was commenting to help your TH-cam score. I do not know if you are in pain, or tired but i did not want to be a pain. Judy and i pray for you. You are so kind, i wish i had known you sooner. Love from 🇨🇦

I find that its important to short all that i can and show mistakes,, difficulties, difficulties, how i deal with those difficulties and fix the mistakes. That way others will know or at least have an idea on how to be able to do the same. The same goes for preparation. Preparation is key. The better one preps their material, the better the outcome of the fly.
As for your comment, Its ok. Im doing my best to answer what I can. I understand what you meant. Most days I am a bit uncomfortable. My ribcage and chest cavity hurt from coughing so much. In total I spend around 5 hours a day coughing so hard that I've cracked ribs and torn muscles. I spend a further 3 hours a day just sitting and recovering from coughing. The majority of the day I spend on 20+ liters per minute of oxygen. Walking to the kitchen and back (while on oxygen), still makes me so out of breath, you would think I just ran a mile at full sprint. In my "down time" is when I try to return messages and answer people on Facebook, Instagram, and TH-cam. There are usually dozens a day so i don't always get to them all. But I do try.

Sorry for the major delay in my answer. I've been away for a few months. Peacock hurl is a bit different. I prefer to buy the BIG quills. 48" long and I trim the bottoms off them. Most of that is micro hurl. You can strip that off and bag it. The rest of the quill I keep standing up out of a small bucket of sorts. The longer quills have much more thick full usable material. The smaller the quills, the sparcer and more fragile they become. You should receive clean packaged feathers that don't need to be prepared. Just need to be stored right. If you have a piece of hurl that is a little too curled at the tip to use in a wing, You can steam an individual piece of hurl, lay it out gently on a pane of glass or mirror, use your needle to straighten it out, then let it dry in that position. Once completely dry, it should be less curled at the tip. Gently run it through your fingers to perk up the fibers. Then you can tie it in to your wings.
Peacock sword is usually not in need of preening but does tend to curl

That def. would take hours upon hours to do. Have you ever tried putting the feathers on a screen of some kind and sit that on the pot? I ask because I have a bunch needing to do that but not that way lol.

I prefer to do it all one at a time. It yields the very best results. They each need to be presented after being steamed. I do the same with teal, mallard, wood duck turkey and every other feather I use. I dedicate a whole day for each steam session. If you want beautiful flies, take the time. It's worth it.

How do you store them after steaming them.

I have a multi compartment fishing tackle box they get sorted into by size if I don't have time to pair them all. Then I pair them up and each matched pair gets put into a smaller baggie. Then all the matched pairs in their baggies are stored in another box in size order.
