This is a game mode where the objective is to grab the ball and hold onto it for as long as you can. First off, let's talk about positioning. You want to be in a spot where you can easily see any incoming threats. But you also want to be in a spot that's hard to reach. You know, like a secret lover's hideaway. The longer you hold onto that ball, the more desperate the enemy team becomes, and the more likely they are to send everything they've got your way. But if they can't get to you, you'll be safe. In the end, you just have to understand WHY playing the ball is important.
Now, let's talk about weapons. You want something that can take out your enemies quickly, but you also want to make sure you can move quickly with the ball. You don't want to be weighed down by some clunky weapon that slows you down. That would be like wearing cement shoes to a dance-off. Basically, if you're not equipped with the right tools to do the job, you need to know WHEN to play the ball.
And finally, let's talk about teamwork. You can't do this alone. You need a team that can cover your back and take out anyone who tries to take that ball from you. It's like having your own personal bodyguards. And who doesn't want that?

I loved this video. The mom interruption was hilarious. I'm lower rank so what i had learned before watching was if i feel I'm alone with the ball and feel im about to get killed, I'll hop into the water to try and save it from not getting into the enemies hands. Obviously there's much more to it! 😊🎉
I'm glad you liked it! Yeah thats definitely the right call when the danger is close. One tip that I didn't fully explain in detail is how great things can workout if you survive after "playing the ball". Basically if you're on the outskirts of a map like Live Fire and "play the ball", the enemies that were running towards you now have to switch directions and go towards the center of the map. This puts them at a huge disadvantage because now they likely have you behind them and your teammates in front of them. I hope this makes sense.
I try to just strafe on the edge facing the water, so I can milk time and when they kill me it falls

Im 30 years old, havent gamed since halo 3 days, but started Infinite yesterday. Oddball, capture the flag, everything about halo is highly entertaining.

I watched and liked every one of your Sloth videos, they are, in my opinion, the best 4 v 4 ranked educational videos on TH-cam.
You also said you'd play with me and we're friends on Halo now but honestly as a n00b to online shooters who only recently got to Plat 2 solo queing (and then fell to high Gold 6 over the last few days on a really bad losing streak with short-handed teams and teammates who don't know what an objective-based game like oddball is about) it kinda intimidates me to play with someone of your skill level. I mean, I get that we wouldn't be playing 4 v 4 ranked or anything, but still, lol. Eventually I'll summon the courage and it's cool AF that you are down to play with anyone...
On another note, there was a new map on 4 v 4 yesterday! Never played it before so didn't do too well but yeah it was nice to see.

U highlighted rotates somewhat in this video but u could definitely make a whole video on just them. Just as important as playing the ball. Especially if you know where ur team is spawning. For example if u have ball tower and dummies and top mid is being pushed out and not B. Bringing the ball mud where u still have an option to play it is a great move because when your teammates die itll give them B spawns where depending on how the fight goes you can either rotate it back green/throw it to spawner on b or have spawners close enough to take back c. Its like knowing how to flank in reverse
You are absolutely right. It definitely deserves it's own video and I plan on doing it on a map where there is no clear "out of bounds" that you can "play the ball" on. Its a tough concept but if people master it then it can be a real threat to their opponents.

Yea playing the ball works in certain situations but what’s better than playing the ball is rotating the ball. Around the map and having the enemy play into your hands. Great vid but also consider this.
Dude, I completely agree but man is that a hard concept to learn. I'd like to hopefully create a video explaining it in the future. BUT, baby steps. I'd like to think that this video can at least help keep those Halo n00bs from keeping the ball out of the enemies hands. Then we'll move towards something of higher difficulty.

may i ask why you feel A is not a good spot to hold ball? is it because of the "playability" of tower/ B? thanks!
Because you can’t reset it from A
A is not "bad" per se but C and B both definitely have that playability. However, someone beat me yesterday holding the ball in the small window corner. However they had excellent communication because we were getting team shot the whole time.
Honest question: are people with game crashes playing PC? I have played this game religiously since launch and can count on one hand the number of times that my game has crashed or I was booted from a game. I played on Xbox ONE for the first year and a Series S since.
I believe most of the crashes are primarily on PC, yes. I can count on all my fingers and toes and my friend's fingers and toes how many times i've crashed... its unbelievable. Someone recently put it this way... 343 did a helluva a job making a really bad quality drug but its an addictive drug nonetheless.

Good explanation of how to handle oddball, but the actual verbiage of "playing the ball" for when you're looking to throw it off the map is completely ass backwards and makes no relevant sense.
Playing the ball means holding it and getting points
Rotating the ball means cycle it to your team spawn
Drop and fight means attack for ball control
And reset the ball means throw it off.
This "play the ball" comm is extremely confusing

Good video, but this map is far less of a problem than Streets. People need to understand how BAD of an idea it is to camp the ball at the desk in PD. Let's just leave our teammates to fight 3v4 and then respawn at the furthest corner and then charge in 1 by 1 to be killed to give the enemy a massive lead.
