As a veteran player who has gotten onyx solo every single season, i can tell you that these tips are all true and will help you improve, keep grinding cody, you’re an inspiration.
I don't know how you manage teaching onyx on solo Q. In my experience, slayer matches are a mixed bag, but I find i stand a decent chance. Anything involving objectives though, is a guaranteed loss. I don't blame teammates and i always look for where I could've done better. BUT. When I solo Q, I never have teammates with mics. Ever. I never get teammates who want to coordinate objectives. They're just holding forward until they find something to shoot at. You must be an absolute giga Chad at Halo to solo your way to onyx. Lol. Some of it is me. I know. I've never gone past D1. Granted I couldn't even get there solo. I only got to D1 once I stopped solo Qing and wait to play ranked until I have at least one other person with me.
As someone who has just recently jumped back into Halo, plus getting older, thank you for the tips. Having to remember that the 2007 version of me had less carpel tunnel and a lot more free time to practice compared to today is given in the form of a reminder via getting curb-stomped by the enemy team when trying to use the highest sensitivity settings. Gonna try dialing down and seeing how that works.
Glad this one helped you out my friend, and welcome back! Tons of vids just like this one, even one with the new starting weapon. I’d definitely recommend starting slow; then climbing!
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one 🤦🏻♂️ 32 here and 3 months back in. Haven’t grinded on halo in over a decade and a half 😓 I always feel like crap when I get triple negative KD and the squad loses the match
The cookie cutting and windmilling can be fixed under “look” :max input threshold. What this controls is the variance in the acceleration curve. Or, how much the speed of the thumb stick changes depending on how far you move it. The lower it is, the more consistent it is. This will make your intuition with aiming and looking better because you will be more easily able to know the speed of your thumb stick. If you make it too low you will notice how slow you look down when trying to do a repulser jump. Even with high sens. This also will keep from getting excited in a gun fight and accidentally moving it too far and going past the enemy. I suggest lowering it from default of 10 to 2-5 before ever trying to adjust your sensitivity and acceleration if you are having trouble this season. I love your videos but don’t wish you touched on the look category. Min max on trigger deadzone can make you appear to react quicker as it will shoot before the trigger is pulled down all the way. Aim assist doesn’t kick in unless your right stick is moving. It is much stronger if you allow your stick to have drift by keeping your aim assist on before you start a gunfight. Lower your center and axial deadzone a to as low as possible without having drift then bump it down 0.5-1.0 more. You can do the same things for the move thumb sticks to make your straffing game better.
Bro THANK YOU this is what I've really been looking for there's so many deadzones and acceleration curves, it's a lot to take in and consider. Speaking of all that- how do you suggest I manage those? Should I leave deadzones relatively default and just worry about the max input thresholds or lower them as well to compensate for lower input thresholds?

I just noticed I've instinctively been doing reticle placement since like halo 5 multiplayer when I started really getting into it. SWAT helped me a literal TON with that, because its headshots all day long, really helped me to focus on the reticle placement in corners and stuff. This is a great video, going to go practice now!
I started playing again last weekend and have been going crazy in academy and have noticed quite a bit of improvement in my performance in quick play in the few days I've been grinding out so far. My biggest issue is with my eyes wandering around rather than staying right on the reticle. Been working on that though and will (hopefully) make progress eventually. Thanks for the video! :)
On average I get 55% accuracy and 4K damage per game and I think that’s quite good. The biggest tip I can give you is don’t focus on your cross hair but the actual enemy Halo is about tracking and timing your shots I never look at my reticle I just shoot the enemy. I think you shouldn’t bother constantly changing settings but just get used to one setting and focus on the actual accuracy by tracking and timing of shots. Probably the best way to get really good is to completely turn off the hug and have no reticle at all until you get used to look at the enemy rather than the reticle. You get feedback that you’re hitting them anwz
After years of playing on console, some changes have affected my gameplay style. Applying your tips will help me but if I have to add something is that everyone can calculate the “out of sight, over the corner” enemies by checking their environment. I do it by checking how far the place is from the floor and try to make a mental image of a Spartan's height there, then position my aim where I want to start shooting to end up in the head using the recoil, then clip my reticle just like you do. And other thing, in PC there’s no aim assist which tends to be way too aggressive on console, even “turning it off”, which is something to keep in mind.
As far as training, add turning off the Heads Up Display (HUD) to the list. It makes you subconsciously learn the centering discipline you talked about.

Can someone please explain to me the benefit of a low sensitivity beside more accurate around? Many a time I have wanted to chuck my controller out the window because even with the highest sensitivity, I can't turn around in time to even fight back if someone shoots me from behind. How is that fair? The sensitivity is absurdly low in this game and it's detrimental to my ability to do literally anything that involves turning fast - something that's very important in fps's
@@Wolftank62 i play 108 FOV because that’s when your character model appears faster due to viewing angle through testing. 1000- 0 Neo : What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets? Morpheus : No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.
It’s not like you don’t use the right stick at all lol but can play call of duty also, but just about any game with aim assist is going to have help from left stick to adjust aim. It’s how it’s literally always been.
@AboveAverageCody Most of all aim assist should be tied to the aiming stick, not the movement stick. That's my point. After a hiatus from gaming I've returned and although I'm definitely suffering skill issues due to being out of practice something felt off. And I did some digging only to find this. Anyone can aim on COD, the aim assist is near aimbot levels of strong. Halo was always a more satisfying game to play. But not like this. Now I know this I can't be bothered to even try. This isn't the quake days of aiming by strafing. I dunno, I might get used to it, but I kinda wish I'd never found this out.
Tbh with you though, gaming in general has changed. With the cracked movement games have now, take the speedy strafes in halo infinite for example, without this aim assist, we would all be hopping on keyboard and mouse. I’m not saying the aim assist isn’t absolutely insane, but with the way servers are on this game, it may very well be at necessary levels to keep the game playable
@AboveAverageCody You're missing my point I think. The aim assist shouldn't be tied to strafing your reticle across an enemy. That's what I mean. I have no issue with fast movement. AA is virtually non existent with the right stick. That goes against every shooter I've ever played. I'm on console btw. Gaming has changed though, and not necessarily for the better. I'm not a fan of crossplay. It's too hard to balance m&k vs controllers. M&k has way too big of a movement advantage. It's not the precise aiming so much like everyone claims. Now in cod the aim assist is so strong for controllers m&k are at a disadvantage. I dunno. I'm sure in previous halos I didn't need to strafe to get aim assist. I played a lot of Halo 5, I loved it. But something felt off when I first played infinite and I discovered the AA issues after a quick search.
Get sleep 2, it will make a big difference. Just make sure you get anywhere from 9 to 12 hours of sleep. Also, this one is a given but can carry the same effects as sleep deprivation........drinking. If you're wanting a competitive edge maybe that social beer with friends may not be such a good idea. Not saying you shouldn't drink at all though just be mindful of when you're drinking and what kind of experience you're seeking out of your match. Are you using the regular Xbox controller? elite controller, scuff? You think these make a big difference?
Ton of difference order the $45 gamesir wit Hall effect sticks it’s new
Any tips for mouse and keyboard
i litternly set my sens to the max and set the x1.4 to 1.6 the sens is so slow in this game
Decreasing the sens does the opposite for me i guess im just used to CoD as im complete horseshit and should stop playing
Bro, I am not trying to turn it down. I need it to go up. The sense on this game is way to slow.
If that’s the case try raising your look stick center deadzone a little, trust
Can someone please explain to me the benefit of a low sensitivity beside more accurate around? Many a time I have wanted to chuck my controller out the window because even with the highest sensitivity, I can't turn around in time to even fight back if someone shoots me from behind. How is that fair? The sensitivity is absurdly low in this game and it's detrimental to my ability to do literally anything that involves turning fast - something that's very important in fps's
What would be the best for your sharpening setting and your field of view
50-60 & 105
@@DC00P alright I'll try it
@@Wolftank62 i play 108 FOV because that’s when your character model appears faster due to viewing angle through testing. I like 100 for seeing enemy’s but, close gun fights are easier the higher the FOV.I have it default @ 60 & my monitor on 50. You only want sharpening the increment of 10 when it is no longer blurry.
@Cody come play sometime I just game back after 2 month break again
Having a 170 fps helps out a lot too I’d imagine
I mean, sure, but the frames don’t teach you how to aim 😭
Low sens is key. I play on 2,2, 2 acc
Meta!
What dead zone do you play
You have a new settings vid?
Yes! There is one for season 4 up on the channel
Shoul I learn controller? Im using km atm
If you’re looking for a new challenge, I say why not? I think both are certainly viable at this point in the game, but definitely worth it to see if you like it!
@@AboveAverageCody bro I feel like a bot with controller:)) I move so slow, when I use km I feel like I m so aware of everything
Does this work for MNK?
🔥
😤
Turn aim acceleration off. Always off
You can’t tho😭
is 62% good??
i get 58% on mnk eithout aim mag
I’d say if you can consistently shoot 55-65%, you’re killing it!
acceleration doesnt work with muscle memory
oh controllers...
"If youre struggling with sens at all which you probably are if you clicked on this video" Just made me cackle so hard. That shits so funny.
what do you mean by left stick aim?
Walking with left stick and not touching right stick
Common Sense: The Video
FOV? deadzones?
FOV is 97, deadzones will have to hop into a settings video as I don’t have them off the top of my head 😅
1000- 0
Neo : What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets?
Morpheus : No, Neo.
I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.
???
constructive feedback:
you repeat yourself for the first three minutes of this video. if someone is here to learn and experiment, this is unnecessary.
I feel bad for all the girls that weren’t included
Do you think girls play these games??
@FIREBLASTER-hx8ob yes women play halo wierdo
😂 Eventually Cody is going to make a video saying Playing on default controls is key.
😂
Aim tips I wish I learned sooner:
Use a controller.
This is just not fun. I want to aim with the aim stick! Not the movement stick.
More none onyx advice… “guys”
And homie still clickin on the vids 🔥
@@AboveAverageCody😂
Yea just talk to damn much
Disagree
Well good thing they are aim tips I learned sooner, not aim tips zach learned sooner 😂
Get sleep 2, it will make a big difference. Just make sure you get anywhere from 9 to 12 hours of sleep. This will help not only your reflexes but also help you with hearing callouts, making decisions, and over all just improve your cognitive ability. I needed to hear this a while ago, so if someone stumbles upon this needing to hear these same words, I hope this essay you just read helps. Also fuck 343. ^w^
