    A SWOT Analysis is a tool used to complete an objective analysis of a company. In addition to taking an internal look at the company (strengths and weaknesses), companies also need to scan the external environment to identify both opportunities and threats. In this video, I'll explain what a SWOT Analysis is, and provide some examples of what can be considered in each category.

    Hello, Thanks for the efforts. these videos are really usfull. I have a question that is confusing me, and here it goes, apologize it is a little bit long but it's killing me.I work in a department, and the board members use and responsible for the Strategic Planning process were they use the SWOT tool for environmental analysis and then, the board members asks us in a group meeting to do the SWOT analysis for our department weakness, strengthes... ect.... now after we finish the SWOT, the board members identify gaps and create organizational strategic objectives and then they create the strategy map for the company and then cascade the identifed strategic objective to our department and inform us that we have to achieve this strategic objectives. Now, my question is, since we have already used the SWOT in the beginning, what do we need to do (as a department) or what kind of tool do we use to identify how to achieve the strategic objectives that the board members have identified from our SWOT analysis, do we use the SWOT again? thanks

    • @Alanisbusinessacademy
      @Alanisbusinessacademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a good question. Without knowing more about your organization and its processes I can only offer my guess as to the value of a SWOT at both levels. There is value to conducting a SWOT at the department level as you are better qualified to identify issues affecting the organization. This is because you have a first-hand knowledge of the issues, whereas the board is often times removed from the day-to-day operations. So by conducting the SWOT at both levels the board may be hoping to obtain a more accurate depiction of the forces that may impact your organization. Thanks for posing the question. I do hope that provides some insight.

    Where would you gather the points to recognise in each of the categories?

    • @Alanisbusinessacademy
      @Alanisbusinessacademy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brendan Gilbert. You would need to do a little research to determine where a company stands in each of these areas. Newspapers like the Wall Street Journal a great sources of information, as are company annual reports.

    • @bester34
      @bester34 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback. How do you determine the criteria for each of the following quadrients?

    • @Alanisbusinessacademy
      @Alanisbusinessacademy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's where your own analysis comes in. It's up to you to identify something as a strength, weakness, opportunity, or threat. To get started, you can use some the of items that I've provided and add others as you find them. Good question.

    i get the process but it really doesnt work as a formula to evaluate a good vs bad investment. if i used walmart for e.g. they would only have two of the strengths on the list... cost advantages and financial resources .. we would have to come up with your own formula to leverage the different points the company contains against each other this is more or less just an informational outline on the company.
