That set is more original than I am (fewer replacement parts) and it's only 4 years younger than I am. What a fortunate find, and got into the right hands to take care of it. Thanks for the video!

Nice machine. Back in the mid 80's I bought a similar one, only with a full housing at a farm auction for only $10. It turned over fine. Only problem was that I couldn't take everything home at once. I took the small stuff and was coming back with took to take it apart so I could carry it. By the time I got back an hour later, the junk man they hired to take the remains away, had taken it. He didn't see my number written on top. Should have told the auctioneer that I would have to make two trips but didn't think it would be hauled away.

That machine is cool! In the early 1950's my Dad bought one just like this military surplus. We had a "summer home" (a cabin/shack with an outhouse) on a small island in a lake in southern Michigan. He and a buddy slide or drug it over the ice one winter and we used it one summer. He never could get the engine governor to settle down and the thing "hunted" all over the place. Before he had a chance, the next summer or so, someone stole the unit.

LOL! Nice driveway.. no sneaking into that place!!🤣 That little Onan is pretty much pristine for a 75 year old generator. Most likely with a little fuel system re-vamping and an oil change, it will be good as new! Would love to see it running.😉👍

I just rebuilt the injectors and put injector cups in my 7.3 and didn’t check the glow plugs had to take it apart again in December once the weather the weather got cold and it wouldn’t start. I hopefully will learn my lesson. Thanks for sharing

Some things just have a certain characteristic beauty about them. That radiator shroud and cap certainly draw your attention. What a beautiful little unit. Such a departure from what we see on the shelves today which is usually just a minimalist frame, gas tank, and a pull start Briggs. Very much looking forward to the detailed inspection, pre-startup maintenance, first start and load test.

Good job Mike for running to capture this w2-c. I have seen the compressors that these gensets fed. The compressors when running in the 50's ran the milkers with a large stainless flat bottom pot hooked to the milkers from the floor with rubber hoses. Looked sort of like a hookah with red rubber milkers running down to the pot. The compressors always stank of putrifying oil that farmers never changed for fresh. Like vegetable oil only very old.

I've got a Fairbanks Morse W3S-531 115-230V 3KW. Looks just like yours. My S/N is: 19.400636. Mine is in excellent, original condition also, except mine is missing the fan guards. Otherwise, everything else is there. Nice find! Onan machines were top shelf back in the day. I've also got a couple old CCK units, a JB engine and an RV unit from the 80's or 90's. It's a shame what Cummins did to the Onan name.

Indeed so. Being a military version mine has a few differences to this one. Eg, magneto ignition with fully screened plug leads, it looks like this one has coil ignition, also mine has a floating dip stick indicator arrangement so the oil level is always visible. It also has an even larger sump and is skid mounted.
