  • In this video, see a detailed overview of a vintage portable generator from WW2. The demonstration includes a description of the different components of the power unit along with starting, running, and powering an AC work light bulb.
    If you have information about the use of these power units in the field or know where Technical Manuals (TM's) can be found, please share in the comments. We would love to hear from you.

    My Grandfather gave me one of these when I was kid back in the 60's. The Sound brought back some fond memories

    I'm actually trying to copy this using a 50 cc 4 stroke engine running a permanent magnet scooter motor step down regulated to a 100 watt. Inverter. Wish me luck and thanks for posting

    that thing doesn't look "old" per say but the design really gives away the 40s vibe.
    I'm also eyeballing a 46 cj2a to convert to an mb and this one I saw I might have to jump on

    Awesome find! $200 is not unreasonable given the complete set of kit and the coolness factor - you could take that camping :)

    Its a wonderful little gen-set, and would probably power a field radio for special operations.

    Stay very heavy on the oil. That engine most likely has plain bearings.

    I heard from some older gents in my engine club that lauson made a small engine like this for radio equipment during the war. I run 16:1 mixed with non-detergent sae 30 in my 60s and older two strokes. Smokes like heck, but it's better for the bearing material.

    That's so cute. Would be perfect to power a light and some small radio equipment. If you're willing to risk it, could even be used today to charge a cell phone and run some LED lights while camping, maybe even a fan.

    This is very cool. I have generator from the 60s made by the United States Power corporation. I can’t find another one like it or much online.

    Maybe it charges a battery pack for a radio instead of a hand crank charger

    how long will it run before it's dry out of fuel

    • @WW2JeepandRifle
      @WW2JeepandRifle  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will run a long time on that little tank. It runs for about 2 minutes on just what's in the carb bowl after I shutoff the petcock.

      WW2 Jeep and Rifle did you find it in that condition? how much did it run you?

    • @WW2JeepandRifle
      @WW2JeepandRifle  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found it in this condition. Did some minor carburetor cleaning to get it to run. Paid $200 for it. That's more than I wanted to pay, but it is so complete with the spare parts, tools, and intact canvas bag accessories that I couldn't pass it up.

    The genset was used for a transmitter/receiver set for the OSS (Now called the CIA) more information on it here: militaryradio.com/spyradio/oss.html . The genset is 400Hz BTW....

    Is it two or four stroke

  • @twotoes533
    @twotoes533 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    115 v at 400 cycles. DO NOT hook an electric motor up. lights, all good. Computer parts...no go... throws clocking off. These were meant to run aircraft electronics
