Indian state of Goa continues to attract dreamers from around the world • FRANCE 24 English

  • #India's small western state of #Goa is probably one of its most widely visited #tourist spots, with 7 million visitors in 2019 alone. But few people know that it was the only Indian state to live under Portuguese - not British - colonial rule. Goa only joined independent India in 1961, 14 years after the rest of the country. Long famous as a hippie paradise, today Goa still attracts dreamers from all over the world and remains a cultural melting pot of Indian and Portuguese traditions.

Also India is an ethnically diverse country, we have Tamils looking similar to Sri Lankans. . .That doesn't mean we should invade Sri Lanka or Tamil Nadu state should secede.
Also, one more amazing fact. India doesnt need to invade, Sikkim was an independent country like Bhutan till 1975, their "Asian looking" population overwhelming voted to join the Indian Union and abandon their kingdom. We didn't invade them, they chose our democracy.

@@bvz2565 Chinese civilization lives in the east. If you look at the geographical map of India, China is farther away from Tibet than India let alone the Northeast. Also Northeast is extremely diverse, they don't have a single culture. Northeast alone has more languages than China.
They are Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Sanamahist, animists, etc. Meiteis have their own scripts. There are around 200 Naga tribes. Meghalaya has 3 regions. Arunachal has Nyishi, Adi, Galo, Tibetans, etc. Northeast is directly connected to the rest of India by Bengal and there is no desert or Ocean in between unlike the sparse population of Xinjiang, Qinghai, and Tibet. As we go eastwards and northwards, the mountains slowly start rising until reaching the boundary of the Himalayas and lower Himalayas. These boundaries separate India from Myanmar and Tibet. Just look at the Geographical mat at once, and you will know why it is part of India. Also, check the diversity there.

I had an opportunity to visit Goa a few years ago, and it felt like home. I am part-Portuguese and grew up in Brazil. The buildings, the language in signs and businesses, the beaches, it all felt very familiar. Goan food is delicious, and Goans are very welcoming. I understand that the Portuguese had no right to invade Goa (or any of its colonies), but Portuguese influence is a historical fact, and tends bridges to regions far away from India. Hopefully I can go back some time soon.

Said Russians have messed up the place since the past 10 years.
Even Brits and Americans vacate the hotels en-masse if they spot a group of Russians in the same hotel. ROFL!!!🤣🤣🤣
Russians are freaking funny man. Dunno what they have done but they have certainly raised some eyebrows.
Anyways, just wanna say that Goa is just awesome. Not many people talk about this, but it's not the weather or the parties, but it's the people of Goa that are the real highlight.

The maps that we see outside India do not usually include PoK and Aksai Chin as they are technically not Indian controlled territories. Although, Arunachal Pradesh, which is also disputed with China although controlled by India does appear in the “foreign” version :) Hope that helps.

There weren't any Syrian Catholics in Goa, the Portuguese had no problems writing about their presence in Kerala and would've done the same if there were any in Goa. They also didn't have to force their faith on the locals, that's Brahmin revisionism of the 20th century to cover up Brahmin social rejection by the rest of Goan society. Contemporary records have shown that the overwhelming majority of Goans left Hinduism voluntarily because they preferred mleccha firangi leadership to sanskriti Brahmin oppression (over 70% of Hindus weren't even allowed to enter temples but still had to give forced free labour for the upper castes and money for the temples, human sacrifice including child sacrifice was done in temples, Brahmin men exploited Hindu widows and made the resulting offspring into a permanent underclass of hookers and temple servants, etc.).

There was no country called India, kingdom called India or Republic called India when the portuguese arrived there throwing canon bals at turks and conquering half the globe with just 1 million portuguese in total ...try beat that in History, lets see if that republic lasts more than 200 years
Portuguese heritage in Goa is more ancient than anything you guys have over there. Having doubts? Point a kingdom that lasted continuously more than 400 years over there. Not even the british lasted that long .
