- I've been wanting to talk about Innocent ever since I found out it existed. Now, thanks to Darkhorse Comics I'm finally able to enter this gorgeously detailed and brutal world!

I'm surprised it didn't get an anime adaptation.
Would be incredible to see one for sure! 🙏
The art work is hella sick in this. Like really good.
Okay, so I studied a bit the Damien case, and Nicolas-Charles-Gabriel Sanson never quitted his job, simply because he lacked a replacement, and was not legally allowed to. He executed someone who protested against it later on. (Frédéric Armand, "Les bourreaux de France...")
By the end of his life, Charles-Henri Sanson suffered from kidney stones which eventually caused his death after nearly thirdy years of suffering, and if the Mémoires are to be believed, he became almost nearly insane from remorse, frequently seeing hallucinations of his past victims. He also became increasingly emotionally distant and cold, to the point his family didn't mourn his death despite their close relationship.
Thanks for the correction on what happened with him. The whole history with that family is unreal.
@@eclecticcollector88 Oh...Also, I also thought Corneille. I read his letters, and the writting was very neat, so I asked my professors about caligraphy, and it was the jesuits. So, it connected me to the Corneille school in Rouen.
It's uncertain if Charles-Henri was formally educated past 12, since he did start to help his father at that age, but he could very well have done it as a summer job, like much of his classmates.
Also, he was way too good at faking normalcy to not have some practice.
Thanks for this overview. The art looks great and the story sounds interesting. I was a history major Lon ago, with a fair amount of it in this period. I really don’t recall as much as I should, but it sounds like there was a real effort to draw from history. Thanks also for doing so much background research yourself. That made this video much more interesting. Great job.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I became pretty enthralled while reading this volume and just wanted to learn just how accurate it all was to the period and the people involved. I remember in school learning about the period and the revolution, but not the person carrying out the killings. It's awesome to see someone highlight the least likely of historical characters.
Just in time 🙌🏾! Great review 😎!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching! 🙏🙏
I picked this manga and was very pleased. I couldn’t put down the manga, it was really interesting and very beautiful. Thanks for your thoughts! I really enjoy the video
Thank you for continuing to watch these videos!
Might pick this up.
Definitely worth it! Highly recommend it. Super stylized. Unique character designs and the story gets unflinchingly violent.
You are awesome
Thank you for the kind words! 😊
Great review! I've been waiting for the release of Innocent for a while now, heard great things about it in the past, then read DRCL and that amazing art convinced me. I took a little break from manga - thought this is the perfect time of the year for me to finally read Klaus (by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora). Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
DRCL was my introduction to his work as well. Want to start The Climber sooner or later. Really get a feel for how Sakamoto drew before ever getting into Innocent. Doesn't hurt to take a break here or there. Non manga, I've been reading Preacher on and off. Really well written and drawn.
Glad you enjoyed the video! And thank you! Happy holidays! 🎄
@@eclecticcollector88 Preacher is on my radar too, found the first 2 volumes in a local second hand bookstore a few months ago, need the rest of them, lol. A book I've read recently and can't recommend enough is the Legends of the Pierced Veil series by Saverio Tenuta (whom we sadly lost earlier this year) - an interesting take on mythical tales set in a feudal Japan and the art is absolutely amazing. Pretty sure you'd like that one.
@@Didi_Radu that sounds like a pretty wild story. Always interested in checking out fantasy or dramatized historical fiction. Speaking of feudal Japan, I'm hoping to start Vagabond and Blade of the Immortal around the same time. I want to do a video about them. Like a compare and contrast.
Hopefully you can find the rest of Preacher. Haha. Such an over the top series.
@@eclecticcollector88 That sounds awesome, I wanna read these 2 series too, plus Lone Wolf and Cub. Before starting though, I think I'm gonna read "Musashi" by Eiji Yoshikawa, which I bought years ago, back when I was still an avid "normal books" reader, but never got around to read it - maybe the size scared me away, a little over 1700 pages in total, sooo wish me luck 😆
👍
Hitting the like and comment for the algo dawg I’ll be back haha
Thanks for the support dude! Means a ton! 🙏🙏

Uff I remeber Innocent. I red it in Spanish, since it is my native language. Art is totally stunning and, because of the kind of realistic style, makes it feel even more disturbing.
I almost picked it up in Spanish, but usually read more in English. You're totally right, it is stunning and the style is unreal. It's the perfect blend of realism and fantastical elements tied together with super gory scenes.
