I turned 16 at the end of 1980, and had the terrifying privilege of watching Republicans mishandle the public health crisis that was/is AIDS. They actually told everyone that "it's just a gay disease" and a case of "god punishing them for being gay." Homophobia ramped up in a way that I had not seen before.
Not only did people die, but AIDS ended up running out of control, thanks to the relaxed attitude of Christian Conservative Republicans who were confident in the idea that a virus is capable of attacking people based on sexual orientation.
Now I get to see these same people mishandle yet another public health crisis. America has a big Christian/Republican problem.
They are utter monsters. It's no surprise that they have to TELL everyone that they're "good Christians," because NOBODY would ever guess it based on what they say and do.
Basically a whole generation of gay men in America died and alot of "good, decent" Christians were just fine with that.
Well it could be the uk with thatcher and insane hate to the community.
I remember the HIV/AIDS terror. "And the Band Played On." A book about this epidemic. I haven't read the book, however I saw it happen, and knowing about what happened then is important. And not simply limited to these important personal identity-civil rights issues.
It's not only a big Christian/Republican problem.
All I will say for now about this ongoing big Christian Republican problem, and what enables it is this.
The Democratic Party handed their balls to Ronald Reagan in 1981, and have watched the Christian Republican Party play soccer with them ever since.
I really don’t think thinking of >1/3rd of your population as monsters is actually going to help the dialogue. A lot of people are good at compartmentalising and get revved up by the preacher harping on their pet peeve which now seems to often be them scientists who think they know better than me rather than LGBT, minority ethnic groups or whatever.
The preachers spin the most rhetoric they can to cover the most people possible and that comes out very very far from what their lord and saviour was recorded as having said and done.
@@glenecollins Very well, the obligatory 'not all Christians' comment. My younger sister and her family - Christians - have personally helped several Muslim families, refugees from Syria and Afghanistan. They are not trying to convert them, just demonstrating Christ's teachings.
My sister is sadly NOT representative of the larger American Christian culture.
That must have been a horror to edit. First of all, having to go through hours and hours of Hovind and Powell’s drivel, and then actually cutting down their horribleness to only a few minutes. You have my sympathy.

I hear that. I left the church and faith because I couldn't sustain the appropriate/requisite level of rage and judgement.
Always people looking for an excuse to do harm to others and joining a religion that has extreme views is a big one.
Scary how many gullible people are out there that lap up this homophobic/racist/communist crap too, especially when it is sugarcoated and slipped in to their speeches, they don't even realise half of what the people they support are really spouting. And the excuses people will make up to cover for these wankers is just beyond belief. Makes me sick to my stomach.

@@denzelminimo1883 it's just that they don't practice what they preach, and that makes them fake as a curse word.. before I became a atheist I was a Lutheran protestant, but I never considered myself as faithful to a religion. I grew up in a protective society and really didn't have to care about religion. GOD on the other hand I have a different view on.. it's simply incomprehensible to me that a entity in space or wherever should have all the answers, so why write a faulty book over several hundred years and declare that for the one and only law above all.. when we all know that you can write all the best laws in the world, it's still the people who manage the law that has the power, not necessarily what is inconvenient for them..
When you grind it down to basics it will always be hate and fear that fuels them..

I had a daydream the other day, where an angel appeared at one of Kent’s livestreams. She told him how he was wrong, and he didn’t take it well and accused her of being a demon. She told him to prove it.
He tried to refuse, but eventually gave in. It didn’t work, and he freaked out.
Also she didn’t look much like an angel, and when asked, she brought up the cherubim (3-headed creature with 3 pairs of wings), the seraphim (wings with eyes) and the thrones (rings of metal covered with eyes)
That feels like the most Kent Hovind thing to happen
In Switzerland, Kent's behavior would be punishable by law: Art. 261bis para. 1 of the Criminal Code: " Whoever publicly incites hatred or discrimination against a person or a group of persons because of their race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation (...) shall be punished by imprisonment of up to three years or a fine."
Nothing like a condensed expose of "Christian love" to start the weekend right.

Kent Hovind talking about how he's never met a happy gay person is so telling. It reminds me of the joke where a doctor has a patient point to all the places on their body that hurt and it turns out the patient's finger was broken.

Or do you mean "catamite"? A Catamite, in ancient Greece and Rome (and others) was a pubescent boy who was the companion (intimate lover) of an older man - it was an accepted part of their society.

I was raised christian, then stumbled upon Kent Hovind's old videos on YT when I was a teenager. It's thanks to Kent that I started my journey towards atheism. And once I realised that the bible is just a bunch of random stories, I felt much more comfortable accepting myself as being super, super gay. Christianity began as sun worship, the stories about Jesus are symbolic.
He is just a personification of the sun, made into a god figure later on.

In other words, Jesus Christ and all the others upon whom this character is predicated are personifications of the sun, and the Gospel fable is merely a rehash of a mythological formula revolving around the movements of the sun through the heavens.

I was part of the Church of England... and the Diocese (Head of the local group of churches) have been so manipulative by "we want the best for you" and "we think it would be in your best interest if ..." That I have become so angry at being misrepresented and "forced" (you know, that feeling that you don't want to but you feel you have to as they make you think that you've upset them) to do stuff...
It's funny how the church is the most judgemental and manipulative body by saying that they're not....

Honestly, I’m done with Kent and friends. And Emma I think you should be too. It’s pretty clear he gets enjoyment from being cruel and contentious. I’d be happy if the community as a whole just forgot he existed.

I second Ian on this one. There's already a lot of atheist content responding to Kent and the like, and I'm starting to feel burnt out whenever a new atheist channel "takes him on". It's been refreshing to hear your views on him, Emma, but at this point I think giving him any attention at all is starting to do more harm than good. All that to say I wouldn't be disappointed if this was your farewell Kent video.
Full disclosure: I am an atheist myself and idk the full extent of your audience. I know this video wasn't "for" me. But I'm starting to get the feeling Kent remains popular more because of atheists than because of Christians, and I don't want to contribute to his popularity in any way. Just my 2 cents.

I think most of his views come from athiests at this point. So i fully agree with you. If we all made a pact to ignore Kent Hovind content, I would vow to do so.

His highest viewed video was eight years old and only had not even 1m views. that aint squat. the most that can be made is $3000 and thats with sponsors. So ya I agree. I don't think I could quit now anyway. It's my life's mission to expose him. If just one person is sparked by one of our comments and it guides them to use common sense, then it's worth it
It's a tradeoff between exposing his deception to his supporters and potentially giving him more supporters by shining a light on him (not to mention exposing oneself to his insults).
If a poll I found on Gallup is to be believed, about 40% of US adults believe in young Earth creationism as of 2019 (although I don't know how many of these support Hovind specifically or would agree with what he says). And the fact that YEC organizations seem to be doing okay financially speaks for itself.
Even the worst of ideas should be addressed if enough people believe it.
Most of the people who believe it most likely won't see rebuttals, but rebuttals should still exist to try to break into those bubbles and not just leave the bad ideas to fester without a response (even if they are just repeating things said a thousand times before).
Emma - thank you so much for making this video. You are a brave, brave woman to take on these animals (they are obviously very dangerous individuals). I'm so pleased that you haven't given up on exposing these two for what they really are and what they really do. Keep up the great work. You are the best!
How is she brave? She did nothing other than drag others to the gulag that follow her. There’s no life away from God. Maybe that fact doesn’t click with you as it clearly doesn’t click with her. Imagine following someone whose life is meaningless and purposeless with no hope. Christians aren’t getting desperate for followers. They know the end is near, the more so try to get anyone to adhere to Gods word to be saved. Vast majority won’t be sadly. So for her to have negative things to say about ppl who have no effect on her lifestyle shows clearly who is the triggered one.

Thanks for the warning Emma. These are truly horrible ppl and I was seathing with rage by the end of it. The only thing that got me through was Dr Karl who once described men as the base model human and women as the luxury model who had all the bells and whistles and the only ones capable of producing new humans.

So, I see this sort of comment a lot about anti-gay people (especially guys) being secretly gay themselves. And I can see how the irony makes it funny. But, at the same time, by joking about it, we're turning "ur gay" back into an insult. Whether Matt Powell is secretly gay or not, the things he says are sickening. And I honestly think that making fun of him for probably being closeted actually detracts from the sincerity and wretchedness of his views.
Basically, I like laughing at this stuff too, but I think if we do it too much we can forget to hold him accountable for his words and actions.

I think you're totally justified in acting in defense of your friends... I feel like you're not just defending them but everyone else you can, too... you made a comment a while back, something like... you may not be able to help anyone who is too far gone but if you can reach people who are on that road and prevent them from reaching the point of no return, then it's worth the fight... I think that's invaluable and you're doing a great job...
Thank you Emma for taking the time to make this video to show us their rotten side (well, not like the other sides are any better, but as you said, this is a video that is especially dedicated to those that have been fooled by these two, for them to be able to better judge their real character). Also, I don't understand why these guys go over to insult looks and speech patterns so much. I knew that they both had some horrific opinions, but this compilation really shows these people's colors.

Hearing conservatives talk about how you should hit your kids, and that they should be afraid of their own parents is so disturbing coming from an abusive household.
I literally have been diagnosed with PTSD (among other things) because of what my father did to me as a child, conservatives are pushing for the ability to take their anger out on children when they have a bad day, because showing any kind of empathy is weakness to them.

I was abused so badly that there is a chapter in a book about abuse that is about me. I disagree with the other comments in this thread. Abuse is not the same as disciplining a child. I have 7 children that are occasionally spanked or given a slap on the hand. I am in no way abusing any of them.

I did a deep dive on Matt Powell recently, it's sad to see what happened to him. It was obvious he was indoctrinated young but he still had a chance to become a decent human being. He went to a small Baptist school that taught him this crap and kept him isolated from the real world as did his church. Despite this, he wanted to be a basketball player and tried out for some regional colleges. He was a decent enough player for the small league he played in but not good enough for any colleges to take a real look at. I mean he could barely dunk at 6'4. But maybe he could have been a walk-on at a Jr. college and worked his way up or something. Instead, he started making dopey little youtube videos with friends, which turned into proselytizing videos and then into full-on ministry in the IFB mixed with hate and junk "science". Now he's attached himself to the ultimate young earth grifter. I struggle to tell if Powell is in on it or not, or if he is a full-on believer. I also struggle to tell which of the two is more dangerous. Keep it up, Emma.

As a Irish Christian, for someone to be gay is only a human condition and to say homosexuals are criminals is horrible. What awful judgment to condemn someone only because they are expressing love, no were did Jesus himself say being homosexual is wrong. He said love each other, nor judge others or you will be judged.
