Start looking for that cruiser car now because when you're old enough for drivers license you'll know how to have some good old times cruisin and jammin good tunes
@Rick, hey Rick I always thought they were made at either Dearborn or Wixom? I have a '70- 2 door coupe, can you tell me where that one was made please.
How many guys can write songs about a car production line while subtly providing a bigger, bleaker picture of the economy? Oh yeah, and he makes the song rock like hell. Pretty good, Mr. Seger.
Bob Seger was always my favorite of the "Heartland Rock" artists. He didn't pontificate, he didn't have a $1 million art loft in Soho (cough, cough John M)... he didn't have to play the "Working-Class Hero" schtick. He was the real deal, relatable. Sad that he isn't as venerated as some of his other peers.
@@Me-zo8yc the Jetta has dual trannys and has hit speeds that would have left my '69 Cutlass 442 in it's dust. But drag racing in the 70's was awesome! Thanks for commenting. 🇨🇦
This is a great song, and was a great time in America. In 66,I bought a 56 T-Bird for $600.00 ,stuck a 390 in it. Damm! that was a fast car.Sold it for $800 a few years later. If only I had it now,it would be my retirement, that along with the 62 Chevy Impala 409 I sold for 1200.Who knew then that they would become so valuable. This song and Boomtown blues were awesome and made me proud to be American. Seger is a master with lyrics, all of his songs bring me back to special times in my life.
@classicseacraft I know what you mean. In 1978 I bought a beige 1967 T-Bird with the retarded doors (that's what we called them back then) it was a beautiful car, but I was 18 and a year or so later I traded it for a 67 Cougar. It had a 351C, 50's in the back and 60"s in the front. Dual exhaust with glass packs, it was nice also, until one day I got on it and the motor just about came thru the hood! It had a broken motor mount I didn't know about. I sure wish I had them now that I'm 62, I could retire in comfort!

Dec 30 2020 we lost Alto REED..... that's the beautiful sax you hear.......sorry if I have his name wrong ...but I'm grateful for his contribution to the rock industry I grew up with....born and raised less than 20 miles from Detroit MI...across the creek.(.cklw boosters) I....still consider myself a Motown boy.....by proud choice....May you and your loved ones be in peace.... Thank you.......Joe......
I had the pleasure of seeing the fantastic musician Alto Reed four times in concert with Seger. They were great concerts and Alto knocked it out each time. RIP sir. You are missed.
Damn, grew up in Pontiac in the 60s. Everybody worked in the automotive industry. And Bob was at local clubs and music festivals. Some of the best times of my life.
It’s a regional thing. Springsteen nailed the east coast vibe, Seger the Midwest and in my opinion, Jackson Browne Southern California. I saw all three, they were all great (Seger was my first concert in ‘68), but nobody puts on a show like Bruce!
The way I heard it, the song title came from a conservation Seger had with a group of retired autoworkers. When he asked them what they remembered from the 50's, one of them said "We were making Thunderbirds, buddy".
Bob Segar has done his home town and the USA proud. Always a great time whether @ his concerts or just jammin'@ with any time and you are dancing been you even know it urslf. Luv you Bob glad to see are back on your.Missed it concerts can't want to see you on stage again praying I see you and Kid Rock in @ least in 1 of the 2 shows.

Remember hearing Bob did take a job on one of the Detroit production lines and left after one day. Glad he didn’t stay or we wouldn’t have got all that great music.
You have to be in a place to "get" its vibe. I heard Bob Seger since "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" in the late 60s and liked his hits. Then, a bit over a decade later, I'm living in "The D." Detroit's music has drive and energy that comes from being full of people on a three shift never-ending assembly line. Pounding hard rock at 6am 'cause that's "Miller Time" after work. And when I got there, sadly, a lot of those lines were idle...Just like Bob said.
EXactly. Just as classicseacraft said "all of his songs bring me back to special times in my life." Bob Seger paints memories of our fun times. "and it was summertime" Night Moves, "What did you win, what did you lose" -Boomtown Blues-

Completely agree. One of his most under rated songs as well.
Yes, he closed the circle with Detroit made
Your right, and this isn’t even one of his best songs.
This one of Bob's Unsung Hits. One of his best. My favorite
I always thought this was one of his better songs, of which there were many. I did not get enough airplay or credit.
Absolutely right about that, great song

Damn right about that
We were "Makin' Thunderbirds" at Lorain Assembly for 17 years until they discontinued them in 97. This was one one my favorite songs when it came out!

Bob Seger was smart enough to know that Alto Reed should be part of the Silver Bullet band. Romeo MI born and raised. Great tune right here!
Drove home across Ambassador with this blasting on a beautiful summer evening. ❤

I am biased because I am from Michigan but always thought Bob Seger WAY better than Springsteen!
Edward Pate Springsteen sucks
Another Michiganian here and I agree completely!
Very, very under rated. Always one of my favorites
Bob is plain spoken but never political always a great performer. Saw him at Pine Knob in the 80's great show.
