Need a day off mate, probably not gonna get hear it till Sunday and to add to that, after planning to do it first thing Sunday morning, ran the van in for MOT tonight and it needs a new back box... so now the wheels will get slotted in AFTER I've taken care of Penny's back end lol lol
Im only 19 and have a little cbr 125 but i watch your videos for experience and little tips for maintaining my bike. Keep up the good work you are very persistant with uploading and put in a LOT of hard work and i've learnt quite alot (even though i dont have the tools to do the work lol)
Nice one mate, it makes me really glad that we are getting through to the younger riders, it's only ever the basic stuff to keep your bike safe and will save you money at the same time! Ride safe my friend, and take care of that bike!
Thanks for all the help, Delboy! So the last thing I'm looking to upgrade on my bike are the tires for this season. I would like to get a wider tire, but at the moment don't have the money to go to a full 5" wide in the rear. The stock rims on the Bonne are only 3.5" so I was wondering what your recommendation on tire size would be if I wanted to get something a little "meatier" without sacrificing too much performance. A friend of mine just fit a 160/70/17 on his rear using the stock rim and it looks great, but I just don't know how that might effect the performance of the bike if I were to get something that big.
Hi Craig, I would respectfully advise against fitting a 160 on your 3.5" rim.. its going to pull the tread radius round into an unnatural curve.. When you fit any tyre the 'bead' has to be supported at the correct width in order for the curve of the tyre tread to fall into its natural shape, and grip in the way intended.. The tyre edge beads on a 160 tyre will naturally be about 4.5 / 5" apart, so the rim that supports them needs to be that width.. but if you "pinch" those edge beads in to a 3.5" tyre will pull those tyre edge beads together, and that will roll the tread curve round more steeply, and that actually reduces the width of the footprint that the tyre makes.. Now this isn't dangerous, but its not a natural correct fitment.. it may look fatter as there is more tread and less wall.. but if you measure you mates tyre across the tread, and your 130 across the tread it wont be 30mm wider.. may not even be any wider at all as its being pinched together... its more of an optical illusion... so again, not dangerous mate, but fittin oversize tyres is not a clever practice.. A better way to do it, would be to find a make and model of tyre thats a chunky and aggressive looking tread, and maybe go up one size to 140... and your find it will look a lot more chunky and still give you a safe, full width footprint..
According to Doug they are a fair few kilos lighter, even though they are bigger, and I fully intend to weigh them, so I know the exact difference! He says that the real savings are made in the hubs, and I can believe it, as they are so much smaller... ! I looked at the Alpinas, but just didn't have the budget for them... I love the glass anodising on these, as opposed to the more matt finish of the Alpinas... and working with this company effectively paid for the tyres out of the saving in price... could have gone tubeless, but that would have blown the budget!
Love it!! .. When I have some cash I'm going to change the wheels on the Bonneville too. Something lighter for sure. ... Looking forward to seeing and hearing your review after you install them!
Too right buddy, thought it was worth the investment, specially when you see the amount of half-baked lame customs in dealers gimped up to look like Hipsters bikes being sold for twice their list price !! It's a sound outlay, if the market is as bouyant as it looks to be...
fivefootsixtriumph Not exactly, the back is 4" wider but the same diameter, and the front is 1 1/4" wider and 2" smaller in diameter.... (19" to 17") .
Come on Del, get these buggers fitted! I have the same bike and I'm about to order my replacement wheels. Snow's gone here in Canada and we're itching to get our there. As if you've got nothing else better to do! :-) All the best mate....
Ha ha yeah, just sat here twiddlin me thumbs mate, flickin elastic bands at the wall...lol Seriously, this has to be the longest week at work ever... 10 hour days and not home before dark...but Sunday is earmaked and they're going in...cant naffin wait so see them in there....and if its dry and some of the salt has washed away, (gonna rain tomorrow) then we'll be out for a play and scrub the boots in too...muah ha ha..!
Too right Jen, can't wait to get them slotted in, just need a day off work if ever I can remember what one of those is like... happy days! Hope you had a good weekend, you were missed and the Collective was all the quieter without you, see you next time, D&Px
I can't believe I have missed another IC meet !!! ... I'm trying to sort out the 48 with a passenger seat for my other half, and once that's done I'll be on the road again :) great choice of rubbers mate, they're sweet! cant wait to see them on! keep it up Del, see you soon! Matteo
Hey buddy....good to hear from you, and yeah, two meets down already and no Che Guevara to keep us company..lol... see you at the next one mate, (and just gaffer tape a pillion on the seat...sue what you have aye..!!?
Is a lovely set of wheels, look forward to seeing the installation vid, fella, hope weekend went well, sorry couldn't be at Bristol, but priorities and all that, sure you understand. Will catch up soon though, you and penny at KickStart this year??
Ayup Grumps, sorry not to see you, I know what you mean mate, gotta keep the DS happy when there's chores to do at home... and we'll catch up soon I'm sure!
Awesome wheels! It's something I'd love to do with my Scrambler in the future, I've done most of the cosmetic odds & sods but had always toyed with either getting the standard rims powder coated or just saving for custom jobbies. Having seen these I now know the answer... Looking forward to the 'install' vid :)
Hi mate, it was the first big thing i promissed myself on the day i bought it 18 months ago, i absolutly love the bike to bits, but those weedy wheels look shite, so ive saved and borrowed, and got the money together...and i cant wait to rectify that one glaring screwup the factory made....going to set Sunday morning aside for the install (too much work to do till then) and hopefully out for a test flight in the arvo...!
Moonfleet41 You're right mate they are too weedy. Lots of saving to do for me but my 10 week old little lad seems to think nappies are more important than bike funds at the mo... ;) I keep meaning to do a short 'Delboy's Garage tribute' video of my Scrambler now I've done a few mods. I'm not into ass kissing but credit where it's due; I wouldn't have attempted any of these jobs myself without your videos so a big thank you from me buddy. Ride safe :)
Hellequin70 Oh cool, thank you so much mate...its a pleasure to help you make your bike a bit better..id love to see how it looks now... take care chap, look after the little man, and see you on the road this year maybe.. take care.. Del.
Thanks Byron, I figured that Harleys get custom wheels all the time and it's always a sound investment... and with Triumphs being customised better and better these days it's a sound investment... and Penny says - thank you!
Bloody sure mate...they've been standing in the kitchen for two weeks...fitting them Sunday first thing and cant wait....but im kinda going to miss them greeting me every morning when i come down to make the tea, they're pretty enough to hang in the wall...lol
Damn right buddy, never get time off to deal with these things, almost feel like throwing a sickie and getting them done... but never done it in my life, so won't start now!
That bike will look mental with those tyres on:D Might have to get some rims and tyres like this for my XT500 :D But only when I get a better paid job or win the lottery :O Could see the excitement on your face! Will certainly finish of the look the Scrambler :)
Glad to see you doing this upgrade. I have been longing to do a similar upgrade to my T100, looking forward to seeing the installation. I have been looking for a way to increase grip and improve the looks. I know they are quite expensive so for now I will just have to stay with the standard rims, but get more grippy tires. BTW couldn't find the link.
You are so right Dieter... it's only companies like KTM and Aprilia that use components of this quality, I guess big name major manufacturers have to keep the overheads down!
Amazing wheels!! I am looking to do something similar...can you tell me how to go about ordering talon hubs. Devon Wheel Co. are too busy so someone else is doing it but I need to provide hubs! What are yours and will they fit straight onto my Scrambler??
I'm only 2 years too late on the thread...but we be all got to start sometime eh!! Quick question what's the widest tyre I can fit without changing the rims ?
Hi Paul.. general speaking, going up two sizes is the ragged edge, check things like chain and swing arm clearance, and maybe go for a chunky style tread if its the right bike, as it makes them "look" bigger... chat with the tyre guy though, if you go up on width, they may recommend to come down one size on profile to keep it safe... Hope that helps.. Del.
mate I love your tutorials and the way you share your experiences. Can I ask advice on a Bandit? I've got a 57 plate 12,000 miles on the clock, The oil is very white, I've change the oil but it still goes white almost immediately. I only do 3 miles to an from work, what do you think? if it was a car I would think the head gasket had gone. Thanks, Dave
Hi Dave, don't panick mate.....its condensation due to your 3 mile commute... unless you're saying that is came out when you changed the oil and it was ALL white like paint???????? Hot gases and cold steel makes water droplets, through condensation...that water collects on internal surfaces like a grey/beige coloured slime...looks a bit like mayonaise right?... if you were to ride the bike a proper distance say like 20 miles, then the heat you generate would vapourize the moisture and it would vanish..and your oil sight glass would just show clean oil and no mayo..... So here's a task...take the bike for a good long blast, at least 20 miles, and get it red hot...then check the oil window...ill bet it will be clean and clear..? This time of year for any bike that commutes short distance you will ALWAYS get this issue....just go out and burn it off buddy....thats the kind of care your bike really loves..! Let me know how it goes... Del.
I like the rear tyre a lot! Makes the scrambler the beast it should be! Do you think an 170 on a 5 x 18 inch fit on the rear for the scrambler? You use a 17inch right and that is standard on the Scrambler. And would the drive performance decrease if I put a 19 x 3 inch rim in the front ? Thanks mate!
+Jan Aarts Hi Jan... the front has a 19x3 already, so it will fit and work like the factory handling... the 17" makes is steer quicker... and the 18" rim will fit in the back ok, but check if you can get the tyre for it.. i think the 180/55/17 is the biggest that they do in the TKC80...others may fit, but i havent tried them... Hope that helps buddy, thanks for your kind comments.. Del.
I have a 2006 T100 and Im having DR wheels make me a 17" front wheel to replace the 19" wheel. I'm doing more of a cafe racer thing but sometimes I do travel on dirt roads. I have a Metzler tourance on the rear which is excellent. However it doesnt look like that tire comes in a 17". What tire would you recommend for the front? Cheers
I may have missed the comment, but how much does the smaller wheel affect the speedo reading? I am thinking of going to a 17 inch wheel on my Thruxton.
Those wheels look awesome Del. I think you are right to take some time off from project bikes. With the three bikes you have there is plenty of scope for material. Sorry to have missed you at Bristol, catch you both on the next one.
Ayup Kiwi... you were sorely missed today mate, a fair few people asked after you... and the cake was so yummy it was ridiculous! Hope you feel better soon fellah, look forward to seeing you next time!
@@Moonfleet41 Hello, I really like what you've done. I just purchased the 2019 Scrambler 900. I too don't like the current wheel situation, but love the bike. I would like to duplicate your wheels / tires. Would you mind providing the details so i can place an order. Thanks in advance!
Hi Peter, tyre size if dictated by the size of the rim on the bike... I've got up to a 5" rim on this project, so I can fit the 170 tyre... but as your standard tyre is a 130, you should stick with that size, unless you are changing the rim.... it's a popular mis-conception that fitting a wider spec tyre will look 'fatter', but actually it doesn't... the wider tyre means that the seating beads are wider apart as well, and if you squeeze them in between a narrow rim, it will curve the tread more and make the tyre look no wider than standard with the danger that your tread is not the right shape and you may well, actually, end up with a SMALLER contact patch on the road, so stick with the standard 130 tyre your bike has and you can buy a Conti TKC80 in that size... and same goes for the front to match!... As for wet use, treat them like you would the standard factory fitted tyres in the wet and don't push them too hard, they are great in the dry, fine in the wet, but as you have less rubber contact with the ground, due to the big fat blocks of rubber, then don't push your luck at extreme lean angles... I rode with a set on the Bandit, that was a far heavier bike and never even noticed they were any different from regular tyres!
Thank you for your reply. I now have a tyre pressure gauge a toolbox stacking unit and a scotoiler I wonder who gave me those ideas. My friend has the scrambler and we are touring italy this year and he may go for the wheels I will certainly be buying the tyres. Once again many thanks
Get stuck in Aaron, coolest tyres ever! Grippy in the dry and still ok in the wet, you just need a little bit more of a sense of humour in the deepest corners, but being a Supermoto, they're made to go sideways aren't they?!
I like your thinking del definatly in the pipeline now when the current ones have worn out and you were spot on on the previous tyre reccomendation for my bandit 2nd set of avon storms still going strong too the scrambler will look so cool when the're fitted !!
They're going to look absolutely fantastic Del, black and chrome is such a perfect combination when it comes to spoked wheels. Also those tires are huge! Do love the knobbly tyre look, just fitted a set of Michelin M45s to my GN125 and it handles so much nicer now. How much difference does the 17" front make when compared to say an 18"? My bike runs a 18" front and 16" rear, although the tire profile does counter the difference a bit it definitely feels higher in the front through turns, worth dropping a size when the tyres next come up for renewal maybe?
Hi Tobias, you'll have to drop the actual rim size an inch, not just the tyre size... and it'll cost a great deal of money for a bike like yours, but you could make a small improvement by lifting the fork legs up through the yokes by 1/2" - this will have the same handling effect as putting a 1" smaller wheel in the front, and you'll certainly notice it become a little more feisty in the corners, and quicker to turn...!
Thank Del for this video and your wheels look the bomb!! and thanks for the information on the Devon wheel company. My Harley wheels need a make over from chrome to the Darkside....lol
Glad you got the information on Doug, give him our compliments, he did a beautiful job on the rims, he builds them to last a lifetime... which is more than can be said for the factory rubbish!
They'll last the same time as long as you dont go doing burnouts....but then, that will trash normal tyres too.... the blocks are 10mm thick, way thicker than the tread on regular tyres...so that balances out the wear time..!
seriously can't wait to see these on the bike, you have taste sir. Oh and i'm in complete agreement about the scram engine, IMO with a decent free flowing exhaust, there isnt a engine sound to match it. Hurry up and get em fitted. RSM
Ben, it's been torture this week looking at them sitting in the kitchen glowering at me! I need about half a day at least to take my time and make a good job, don;t want to rush it and now got another week at work with barely any time to myself... I'll get them done soon...
Ayup Springy...yeah, got a regular Bonneville seat in there..(not the standard flat plank thing) as the brown one was effectively a Thruxton seat, and it was less comfortabler than the good old Bonnie seat...!
No problem at all mate, that's the reason for the 170 and 5" rim, it fits with 1/4" to spare, literally bolt straight in... if I'd had a choice on bigger, I'd have gone for a 200, but then you need to go mono-shock and make many other changes!
Roy Rodriguez Have been thinking about the front fender, it's gonna give an inch more gap than I currently have and am gonna wait to see that fitted before I make any decisions... have thunk about the fender under the yoke, but there isn't the room between the yoke and the frame... may not run one at all... brat style
Moonfleet41 Hi Del! Using wider tyres gives bigger diameter. So unless you have lower profile, that inch of yours will not be an inch in real life any road. Follow me? John
Roy Rodriguez I wonder if you could fit a swingarm from an America or Speedmaster then? I use a 180 tyre on a 4.25X17" rim on my rearwheel on my Speedy and there's plenty of room. :-)
John Mård Hi John..it IS lower profile, front was 90/90 and will now be 120/70 standing height is 2" lower exactly..(measured it), an the back was 130/80 and is now gonna be 170/60 stands about 8mm taller at most.. the 170 is the widest you can go for as due to the chain run you'll need to space out the sprockets...swing arm width isn't an issue, i could get a 200 in there is it wasnt for where they place the gearbox sprocket... done all the summs John...this wheel is a bolt in and play, not gonna start basterdising the bike...dont wanna ride up the road on a bitsa..!
Thanks Ron, can't wait to get them slotted in,just answering all the messages here, then gonna settle down to watch my buddy, Blue Onions', first ride video on wide screen! Take care fellah....
Hi! Love your videos mate! Just preparing my bandit for spring and today I have changed fork seals and fork oil. Your YT video how to do it was VERY HELPFUL!!!! BTW do you know where in Poole can I get ultrasound carburetors cleaning? Cheers!!!!!
Hi mate....glad the video helped out... not sure who could clean your carbs...i tend to go to garages rather then dealers....so try 'Minster Mechanics' in Wimborne and talk to Sean, im sure he can help..!
Have you had any experience with the Outex tubeless kit, or something like it? I'm about to try it on my new front wheel and looking for tips. Thank you.
@@Moonfleet41 Well, it's holding 35 psi for 2 weeks now. 0 miles, I'm still putting the Sportster together. Once I start riding it I'll let you know if I have any problems, and how I fix it.
They look the dogs bollocks, look forward to the next video. Oh & by the way I'm going to use the term "investment" more often when I'm ordering things for the Bandit if the missus asks :)
Hi recently bought a newish t100 and wanted to fit a fat set of tyres to get that euro bobber look anybody know what size I can go up too I will be making a custom front fender so no problems there with clearance maybe go down the scrambler style look I cant afford wider yokes so will have to be stock.
+Chuck Sin OK, I guess that makes it diffuclt, you could still contact Doug and ask him the exact hub and spoke spec... am sure he'd be happy to tell you !
Hi! I have a thruxton 05 and really What a scrambler seat! Do you know of any that fits? I have bought the top yoke so i can get a bar for it to but dont know of any that sells a tracker bar! I cant buy yet a bike because i already have 6 :/ tanx from sweden
Hi there, the good news is, that the seat based used on the Bonneville, Bonneville SE, Thruxton, and Scrambler, are all the same... so in theory, at least, all the seats will fit all the bikes!
Tyres are 180/55/17, 120/70/17, and you'll need a 5"x17" rear and 3.5" x 17" front.. and yes, they'll fit into the bike as long as they're made with the correct Offset and axle spacers. ! Hope that helps.
+Chuck Sin Hi mate, you are choosing from what he has as shelf stock, he made my wheels using 5.5" DID Dirt Star rims and Talon hubs... call him/ email him direct, am sure he could do up to 6" if you wanted !
Moonfleet41 in the video it sounded like you said you had to go down to a 5" width and 170 rear tire because a 180 won't fit. Is the rear wheel width 5 or 5.5" on this bike?
No, its a 5.5 rear, see the message below, he'll make any width if you special order it.. and two years on the bike is running street tyres, Conti Motion 2's 180/55/17 and there's about 7mm chain clearance.
Thanks Del! Just about to purchase so want to get the right size. In the vid where you install the wheels with the TKC80 tires, the sticker on the rear says 170 section width, but I know you said with the lugs it's equivalent to a 180. Just so Im clear, with the TKC80's you're running 5.5" wide rim with 170 tire on rear?
I think so mate, it was 2 years ago, and three sets of tyres since.. TBH with the TKC tyres, they are so vague, that it doesn't matter of you have 5.0 or 5.5, it wont make any difference to the width of the tyre and the chunky rubber will mount on both.!
Hi Del, luv the channel mate been watching for a couple of months now, recently picked myself up a 2nd hand matt black scrambler after having an argument with a kangaroo on my last bike (he won). loving the scrambler so far and I'm looking to upgrade the wheels and was wondering what width rim are you running on the front? cheers
+Nitermare Hi mate, sorry to hear about your accident... hope you gave the Roo what for lol ...nothing can spoil yer day like riding into a giant mouse with boxing gloves on.... the front rim on mine is the same width as standard 3.5" ...I just dropped it down to 17" dia. then fit a 120/70/17 tyre ... and if you are gonna change the rear, you can get a 5" rim in with a 180 tyre.... and if you're gonna go chasing giant mice again, you can fit knobbly tyres and only the Continental TCK80 comes in a 180 width... all the rest stop at 160, but they can be a bit vague on tarmac... it's always a trade off! Good luck with it mate, enjoy your summer! Del
+Moonfleet41 cheers for getting back to me mate, yes running into a roo is a real quick way of ruining your day and both the roo and myself came out of it a lot better than my bike did if fact he just gave me a funny look picked himself up and kept going the cheeky bastard 😂 I wasn't sure because the tk looked so chunky on the front I thought you might have gone wider but I'll definitely be going for a 5 on the rear and if a run the tk maybe I'll get enough traction to go over the next giant mouse that comes along lol. Cheers mate stay safe and enjoy your winter if possible 👍🏻
You can't "buy" them my friend, i had to have these made... they were constructed from Talon Hubs, and DID Dirtstar rims... i went to www.drwheelbuilding.com/ they make Triumph wheels any size you need...
So, they are hand laced n trued wheels, from my experience on that topic, I comissioned hand built wheels for my Cannondale mtb in 1994, using at the time the best components. raced for a few years after & leisure rides since they are still true. Thats 20 years and counting.
Thats good news Russ....i laid out a pretty shekel on these and i plan to keep the bike till the 'Viking Burial' me on it..lol Doug is a prince of the trade and has a really great reputation in the industry...im really happy to have his work on my bike..!
Good choice on those wheels, the tyres are way to skinny on the scrambler Didn't think you could go that big on the back and If you change your mind send them me
+Chuck Sin Yes mate , no problem, rear is 5.5" x 17" and the front is 3.5" x 17" ... and tyre spec is rear 180/55/17 and the front is 120/70/17 ... hope that helps!
+Chuck Sin If its road rubber you want, ten the list is endless, but as a guide, i used Avon Road Riders as a great all round tire for the Bonneville models, but if you want something a bit softer, then Michlin Pilot 2's like i said, the list is endless..
Hi Del i came across a set of rims from a Triumph Daytona 675. Front is 17x3.5 rear is 17x5.5. i would like the purchase if it fits kinda like those rims. please help me out thanks
+Chuck Sin Hey Chuck, yeah, they will fit, they have the fundemantally important sizes 3.5 and 5.5 x 17 - so you won't have any clearance issues but as they are not made for your bike, you will just have to check the bearing diameter to get the spacers correct, to get the off-set right, you will have to make sure the disc lines up with the caliper, which may mean fabricating a bracket to hold the caliper correctly on the disc (you will only need the one disc)...... on the rear wheel, the chain drive is on the other side, so you will have to run the wheel backwards, and again, you may need to space the front sprocket to get the rear sprocket off-set correct, and the same applies with rear caliper off-set to the disc........... in short, grafting alien wheels in to your bike can be a long process, there's often a lot of luck involved and just because they are from the same manufacturer means nothing... Honda CBR600 wheels, Suzuki GSXR600 wheels, will all fit in your bike as they are same sizes, it's all the other stuff you have to make fit... and if the axle size is different, then there's a whole new world of grief, you'll either have to have a new axle machined, or specified bearings made for the rear wheel with custom 'o/d' x 'i/d' ... like I said, it can go smooth and they just slot straight in, but that is extremely rare... now you see why people have bespoke rims made! Hope that helps... Del
Planning a free afternoon on Sunday mate .. already lined PennyP up to supply the cake and tea (and camera work lol) ... it's man cave time, not idling walks along the beach yeeha!
I realy enjoy your videos but for no speeking british people, its very difficult to catch names, brands, specs, places, etc. you recommend maybe at the end of the video you can "wright" the names of the parts you are instaling in the bikes, like in this video, you place the names of the groups, singers, etc. Thank you for your comprehension
hi mate, just picked up your reply to my question. Thanks for that, I don't get chance to do a long ride until I take my beloved out in the summer. I have to say, and no bullshit, your my go to guy if its about bikes. I stripped my callipers last year following your tutorial, that's when I found out I'm allergic to brake fluid, fucking broke out in a rash and had 9 days off work, still satisfying to do it yourself, as you say Getting in contact with your bike. Thanks mate, " You and the wife ride safe" Dave
Hi Dave,,,,oh no, thats horrible, 9 days off work for a rash....sorry buddy, if i had no idea it was allergenic... i guess just use rubber gloves the next time aye... Thanks for your kind support, and keep at it...nothing makes you feel more epic than wrenchin on your own bike and keepin it sound... take care.. Del.
Hi love your stuff top man del just can't get my head around buying a bike made in Toyland triumph its not made in Britten its not British the alloys &the metal well we see like the Japanese bike made in Spain junk BMW made in Spain all the switches spring junk keep up the good work
Made in (and that's) 'Thailand'.... and to the highest British standards I'll have you know... (do you not think Hinckley take any notice of quality control in THEIR overseas factory?) ...rubbish them as much as you like, but before you trash them too much, take a look under the bonnet of any British Leyland car... phuqin dustbins every one of them, so let's not be too prissy about where they're made...
Hello my friend, i susribe in you channel, i like your videos... can you help me whit my litle sacrambler proyect? I have a yamaha fz 16 150cc, I stared to change the tires whit dualpurpose tires, looks better!! How can i do to, up grade a power transmision, front en rear suspension and front and rear sandcover. Can send you a my bike projet I hope you stand my english.. i m from Puente Grande, Mexico, weres Chapo Guzman Sacape 1time. Lol lol
Loving the aggressive look with such a smooth tidy finish. Get them on ASAP mate
Need a day off mate, probably not gonna get hear it till Sunday and to add to that, after planning to do it first thing Sunday morning, ran the van in for MOT tonight and it needs a new back box... so now the wheels will get slotted in AFTER I've taken care of Penny's back end lol lol
I can't wait to see those wheels on the bike. I bet it will look fantastic!
Looking forward to seeing those beasts installed !! Gonna look awesome
Stunning looking wheels and tyres.
Well done.
Just discovered your channel today....
Thanks mate..and Welcome aboard!
Wow! Those rims will make the Scrambler really stand out in a cool hooligan sort of way! Can't wait to see them on it Del. Cheers...
Me too Jeff...cant naffin wait toget them wedged in on Sunday...!
Solid looking wheels. Will look mental!
Lovely Dell, I went for the Alpina tubeless rims on mine same colours, I bet they are lighter too.
Great set of wheels ;-) Congrats! The will look awesome on the bike.
Looking forward to seeing them fitted, they look awesome.....
This is going to look awesome. Can't wait to see them on.
Love it!!
Moonfleet41 Del did you say these wheels aare smaller than what is on the bike now?
fivefootsixtriumph
Not exactly, the back is 4" wider but the same diameter, and the front is 1 1/4" wider and 2" smaller in diameter.... (19" to 17") .
Smashing change to the Scrambler! We all know you'll have it looking wicked Del - well deserved after the work on Doom. Cheers Barry
Cheers Barry....cant wait to fit them in....just need a day off to get in the garage..!
You could hang those wheels on the wall mate, they're works of art. Gonna look absolutely sweet on the scrambler!
Dang right, it'll hurt to get them wet for the first time... Doug has made a beautiful job of them!
I vote money well spent. It should impact both look and ride dramatically. Can't wait to see them installed.
Cheers Richard, planning it for Sunday, can't wait to see them myself...!
You can't beat a fat backside! Wow they look amazing can't wait to see them on the bike xx
Too right Jen, can't wait to get them slotted in, just need a day off work if ever I can remember what one of those is like... happy days! Hope you had a good weekend, you were missed and the Collective was all the quieter without you, see you next time, D&Px
Those are going to look amazing on the bike!
I can't believe I have missed another IC meet !!!
... I'm trying to sort out the 48 with a passenger seat for my other half, and once that's done I'll be on the road again :)
great choice of rubbers mate, they're sweet! cant wait to see them on!
keep it up Del, see you soon!
Matteo
Hey buddy....good to hear from you, and yeah, two meets down already and no Che Guevara to keep us company..lol... see you at the next one mate, (and just gaffer tape a pillion on the seat...sue what you have aye..!!?
Major upgrade... You have a lot of vision to plan these upgrades.
Thanks mate, it's just a case of thinking ahead and squinting sideways at it whilst you have a beer lol!
Lots of saving to do for me but my 10 week old little lad seems to think nappies are more important than bike funds at the mo... ;)
I keep meaning to do a short 'Delboy's Garage tribute' video of my Scrambler now I've done a few mods. I'm not into ass kissing but credit where it's due; I wouldn't have attempted any of these jobs myself without your videos so a big thank you from me buddy.
Ride safe :)
Hellequin70
Oh cool, thank you so much mate...its a pleasure to help you make your bike a bit better..id love to see how it looks now... take care chap, look after the little man, and see you on the road this year maybe.. take care.. Del.
Wow beasty stuff dude!! Can't wait to see them in!!
Sure are pretty wheels Dell, cant wait to see them on the bike!
Thanks mate, will be on it at the weekend, can't wait to see what they look like on!
That thing is going to be a beast!
Outstanding! I'm really looking forward to seeing them installed! Btw Penny... nice camera work, as usual :)
Thanks Byron, I figured that Harleys get custom wheels all the time and it's always a sound investment... and with Triumphs being customised better and better these days it's a sound investment... and Penny says - thank you!
Mut's Nuts buddy, the more I look at these the better they get
Bloody sure mate...they've been standing in the kitchen for two weeks...fitting them Sunday first thing and cant wait....but im kinda going to miss them greeting me every morning when i come down to make the tea, they're pretty enough to hang in the wall...lol
that's going to look like a beast when its done. can't wait :)
That is gonna look fantastic. Very aggressive. Nice one Del.
Tom
Thanks mate, just waiting for Sunday so I am off work and have all day in the man cave lol!
A perfect Sunday.
You have good taste my friend. Can't wait to see them on!
Del - those rims are so freaking cool - Scrambler becomes bare knuckle brawler! Can't wait to see it on the bike! Thanks for sharing. EW.
Too right mate, they are so sexy I wanna hang them on the wall!
Next video after this one mate...
Amazing difference, Will look very cool!
Should have been like that from factory.
Take care
Dieter
You are so right Dieter... it's only companies like KTM and Aprilia that use components of this quality, I guess big name major manufacturers have to keep the overheads down!
On the other side, that give us the opportunity to customize our bike to what we think is better! And at the same time have fun doiing it ;-)
Amazing wheels!!
Del.
looking good, nice to see a Scrambler getting a work over, got a Scrambler & Thruxton myself...love the classic Triumph's
Cheers Terry
Hi Terry, I love the Thruxton too, with the right tyres and pair of these rims would make it look awesome!
Del.
Del...thank you!! you are always great help as always. please keep up the good work. please say hi to Penny.
Cheers
Whats the biggest rear rim and tire i can fit on a speed twin?
OH BALLS, i missed you at fowlers :( i literally met my friend on the same road at 8;30 to goto a car meet and rode past it again on the way home :(
What! Unbelieveable... what a shame, there were about 40 of us there all day, didn't leave till gone 4pm...
i need to be more active on the forum to know when you guys have meet ups again ;D
Would u do something like this on thruxton? To make it more "sporty" think it will handle little better
Sava Djurcinovski Very much so Savam use some proper sticky road tyrs and you'd improve things no end..
Wow they look amazing, the black looks so good :D
Dam good investment derek, the hubs look really meaty lol.
Talon hubs - what's not to like?! Best on the market bar none....
@@johnathanjenkins913 Yes indeed John, happy to help.. those wheels are 5x17 rear and 3x17 front, with 180/55/17 and 120/70/17 tyres..!
Del what size tyre would you recommend for a T 100 Bonnevile 2013. I really like the look. What are they like in the wet. Love your Vids
How much was the wheel set and tyres?
Those wheels are so cool !! Deffinatly a good investment cant wait to see them on del im even thinking of getting those tkc 80 tyres on my supermoto
Hi there,
The link you have attached to this weeks seems not work. Are those built wheels still available somewhere?
Cheers!
Great move brother, one of the best upgrades in my opinion. I love the fatter wheels. Great looking, your gonna love them.
Ride Safe....
From the time you spent with TKC 80s on the bandit, how long do you think they will last compared to normal tires?
Hey Bud not related to the wheels but are you using the stock seat now on scrambler the brown one was smart looking ...
Ayup Springy...yeah, got a regular Bonneville seat in there..(not the standard flat plank thing) as the brown one was effectively a Thruxton seat, and it was less comfortabler than the good old Bonnie seat...!
Ah sounds good. .cheers..
fuuuuck !!!! thats HUGE!! what a fucking big difference, can you even get the chain on?
No problem at all mate, that's the reason for the 170 and 5" rim, it fits with 1/4" to spare, literally bolt straight in... if I'd had a choice on bigger, I'd have gone for a 200, but then you need to go mono-shock and make many other changes!
Roy Rodriguez
Have been thinking about the front fender, it's gonna give an inch more gap than I currently have and am gonna wait to see that fitted before I make any decisions... have thunk about the fender under the yoke, but there isn't the room between the yoke and the frame... may not run one at all...
John Mård
Hi John..it IS lower profile, front was 90/90 and will now be 120/70 standing height is 2" lower exactly..(measured it), an the back was 130/80 and is now gonna be 170/60 stands about 8mm taller at most.. the 170 is the widest you can go for as due to the chain run you'll need to space out the sprockets...swing arm width isn't an issue, i could get a 200 in there is it wasnt for where they place the gearbox sprocket... done all the summs John...this wheel is a bolt in and play, not gonna start basterdising the bike...dont wanna ride up the road on a bitsa..!
VEEERY nice,oh well there goes mothers day, birthdays and xmas for everyone this year.
Happy with that lol!
Sweet!!! Those have a great look!
Thank you.
Sadly not Scott, I've never used that, but I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it.
You know it makes sense mate, it's all in the wording! Just tell her that wider wheels are safer... lol
Hi recently bought a newish t100 and wanted to fit a fat set of tyres to get that euro bobber look anybody know what size I can go up too I will be making a custom front fender so no problems there with clearance maybe go down the scrambler style look I cant afford wider yokes so will have to be stock.
I'm in Canada I will have to source it out myself. shipping to Canada cost lots.
+Chuck Sin OK, I guess that makes it diffuclt, you could still contact Doug and ask him the exact hub and spoke spec... am sure he'd be happy to tell you !
some mighty fine looking footwear there del monster wheels
haha Footwear... I like that! These boots are made for walking...
i also forgot to ask you about the Talon hubs and spokes...what are the specs.
+Chuck Sin Contact Doug at Devon Wheel Company (link above) tell him what bike you have and he does it all for you!
Del your wetting yourself. Mind you they are bloody awesome. Ride safe
Jolly good job I have my Beckacoolwear suit so I won't notice lol !
Will those tires fit on a stock bike?
No mate, you need wider rims made to fit these tyres!
@ so if I get the wheel and tire combo, it will fit on a stock bike. I was having a hard time picking up the size with your accent. My apologies.
Tyres are 180/55/17, 120/70/17, and you'll need a 5"x17" rear and 3.5" x 17" front.. and yes, they'll fit into the bike as long as they're made with the correct Offset and axle spacers. ! Hope that helps.
Thank you 🙏
That rear looks mental wide especially on a 40 " telly screen..nice move..enjoy.
Ha ha, cheers Springy....gotta have a big telly aye...lol.
Del my front wheel is 19" x 2.5". No harm in changing to a 17" x 2.5" right?
That's the standard fitment for the Bonneville SE... so it'd be fine!
Hi Del
i looked over Devon's website and his biggest rims are 17x5.0" don't seems to have 17x5.5 as you stated..
I have a bonneville 2006 how and where can I buy these 5 inches rim?
You can't "buy" them my friend, i had to have these made... they were constructed from Talon Hubs, and DID Dirtstar rims... i went to www.drwheelbuilding.com/ they make Triumph wheels any size you need...
size of rear wheel?
So, they are hand laced n trued wheels, from my experience on that topic, I comissioned hand built wheels for my Cannondale mtb in 1994, using at the time the best components. raced for a few years after & leisure rides since they are still true. Thats 20 years and counting.
Thats good news Russ....i laid out a pretty shekel on these and i plan to keep the bike till the 'Viking Burial' me on it..lol Doug is a prince of the trade and has a really great reputation in the industry...im really happy to have his work on my bike..!
Gona look the muts nuts Del !
Fantastic !
Good choice on those wheels, the tyres are way to skinny on the scrambler Didn't think you could go that big on the back and If you change your mind send them me
Hi Del.. i want the exact rims and hub can you please give me the specs for both front and back. thanks
+Chuck Sin Yes mate , no problem, rear is 5.5" x 17" and the front is 3.5" x 17" ... and tyre spec is rear 180/55/17 and the front is 120/70/17 ... hope that helps!
i don't off road at all, i was planning to get all street tires, any recommendation on tires?
+Chuck Sin If its road rubber you want, ten the list is endless, but as a guide, i used Avon Road Riders as a great all round tire for the Bonneville models, but if you want something a bit softer, then Michlin Pilot 2's like i said, the list is endless..
Come on Del, gotta see those wheels fitted.
In the garage first thing in the morning buddy...!
Del
+Moonfleet41 Thank you!! Thats helps a lot. I gonna past.
Got Devon stainless on my America for ages 😀
Just watched it again on phone.. that rear is so wide im gonna need a bigger phone!...
Turn it sideways dude!
That's going to look as sweet as a nut mate!!!
Look forward to the fitment.
Planning a free afternoon on Sunday mate .. already lined PennyP up to supply the cake and tea (and camera work lol) ... it's man cave time, not idling walks along the beach yeeha!

Any one catch front wheel size? 17x?
3 1/2"
@@Moonfleet41 so if I recall the video said max size on rear tire is 170 on 5" and front is 120 on 3.5"?
whoa! Nice.
I realy enjoy your videos but for no speeking british people, its very difficult to catch names, brands, specs, places, etc. you recommend maybe at the end of the video you can "wright" the names of the parts you are instaling in the bikes, like in this video, you place the names of the groups, singers, etc. Thank you for your comprehension
i want a triumph now !!!
Go get one, they're not rationed lol!
Moonfleet41 yea but my money is lol looking forward to the next vid :-)
hi mate, just picked up your reply to my question.
Thanks for your kind support, and keep at it...nothing makes you feel more epic than wrenchin on your own bike and keepin it sound... take care.. Del.
Fuck yeah!
Now that's my kind of comment lol!
Lovely get that on the beaches up and down the dunes yaha😈
Me likey :)
