    Thanks for that swift reply Del it's greatly appreciated... I've always had an hankering for a scrambler and now the insight you've given to all of us out here to what can be done with them has me lookin to put my BM up for sale and take a trip to the Triumph dealers. Keep your vids coming.... They're worth my internet charge on their own. Ride safe..

    Now that looks awesome and inviting to ride. I like the high front fender too. Gives it more of an off road look. Can't wait to hear the ride difference and turning feel.

    @ 5:17 "If you see them on the net for 50p then don't buy them because they'll be shit and they will break then you'll crash and you'll die" Telling it how it is - they should make you the next presenter on Top Gear! :o)
    Nice vid and the wheels look great. Started doing the same thing on notating the torque settings. Got tired of forever going back to the Haynes to look them up so just jotted all the popular torques for wheels, sump, brackets, pinch bolts etc on a separate sheet...

    Thought I recognised you, wasn't sure. Just wanted to say thanks for helping me put my side stand springs back in place when I was at Southampton Harley today. What a nice guy.
    I enjoyed the crack, despite being bitten whilst trying to put em back myself. Much appreciated.
    Cheers Delboy.

      Hi again mate, glad we got the stand sorted - what an unblievably stupid design eh... perhaps the intructions got lost in translation from English in to Thai lol! ... do check out the TEC website, they've got some top quality kit and the prices are outrageously cheap... tell 'em we said Hi! ... and why not join our forum, and get your mate on the Kawasaki to join to ...here's a link: bikers.boards.net/ ...hope to see you at one of our monthly meets, hopefully with your new shocks and exhaust fitted by then haha! All the best, mate, cheers Del

    Del, ive been watching your channel now for a long time mate, that is by far the best vid you have done, the bike looks fantastic, and to finish it off, you filmed it in black and white, the bike looks ace mate, well done to both you and penny, totally approve with what you have done.

      Hey Bazza, thanks so much for your continuing support mate, you're always there with a kind and friendly comment to my fumbling around in the garage and it's always good to hear from you.. I'm afraid I must fess up and say that the Black & White thing was all Penny's doing! ...she suggested it would look better to isolate all the confusing colours of the background from the garden, plants and surrounding cars, and just show off a black bike in Black & White surroundings... and the camera has cine type silent movie mode, so it seemed perfect... she is always right, of course!

    Long time viewer, first time commenter... Never been quite sure about the Scrambler to be honest, but that looks chuffin' excellent! If anyone at Triumph sees this they'll wish they had put some chunkier boots on it from standard, because that just looks right. Top choice Del.

      Thanks mate, glad to hear you are gonna get a Scrambler... they are outrageous fun to ride, handle like they are stuck down with velcro, but not quite enough power to get yourself in to trouble! There are faster bikes out there, and bikes that handle better, but none of them will make you smile like a Bonneville or Scrambler!

    Delboy,
    Love your vids, your style of mechanics, doing the job properly and text book has my name written all over it. Its the correct way to go about a job, its satisfaction supreme to watch you work. By the way...you must get the Zard pipe on that scrambler now....that will be the icing on the cake IMO. PS. in my home garage I have an ABBA Skylift....they make them round the corner to me, you will never look back, best addition to anyone's garage IMHO.

      spillarge HI matey, i absolutely LOVE the Zard Cross pipe, its justr like the legendary "Alfa 4" from the 70's.....and id love one, even the Zard high level one is cool, but the dinky underslung tube on the Cross is just hardcore, your dead right... it'll have to wait for a while, just spent the years bike budget on the wheels....lol

      Oh Blimey,,,,yeah I had an Alpha 41 in 1981 on my GS 550e. I have a tape recording of me wringing the bikes neck at 12 thousand rpm in Dartford tunnel on the way to the Trans Atlantic races at Brands.

      Ah, I have just the solution for ya brother Lee, tell her that the dust on the fire roads has become airated due to seismic action from years of native Auatralians playing didgeridoo's and this had made areas liable to swallowing up vehicles whole... so like snow shoes, these tyres will prevent you sinking should you come across one of these said patches of fire road... now go play and tell her they look better when they have red dust on them!

      @Moonfleet41  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good plan brother...but you wont have to wait till the weekend...they'll pickle up while you stand there and watch.... theres an old saying..."on a quiet night, you can hear the spokes rusting on your triumph"...lol let me know how it goes mate, if it fails, then just go with the safety aspect.. "Skinny wheels are dangerous because they get stuck down tram lines"....easy.!

      Well to be honest I noticed the front spokes rusting after I'd had the bike a whole 2 WEEKS. First bike I ever owned from new and I was really disappointed with it for that. Anyhow I rubbed away the rust with a soft cloth and applied a little ACF-50. No trouble since then.

      +Vlady Hi mate, they are Continental TKC80's and no, they are pretty rubbish on the street compared to road tyres, but perfectly rideable if you take it easy and you are willing to sacrifice handling for looks... !

    Thanks for your latest video. You make it seem flawless. One thing you did not mention is how new tires(tyres) can be slippery on there first ride out. Finally went out yesterday for a quick 20 km ride, first ride of the season. The bike looks chunky and fat, but still retains that old bike look .

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nicolas, These are wider Alloy DID Dirtstar rims, laced onto factory spec Talon hubs. back rim is 5" and front is 3", and both are 17" Dia ! so the bike can run 180/55/17 rear and 120/70/17 front just like a sport bike.. the front slots right in, and the back too, you just need to trim back the chain guard to clea the edge of the tyre.. the chain clears but only just by 3mm..! Hope that helps..

    Nice. Looks mean and chunky. Interested to see how the tyres perform. What do you do to break them in? Actually don't worry, I saw you answered that elsewhere. My dad used to run a disk sander across the tyres to rough them up for the road/

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      AYE....a disc sander...really..??? Ill stick with the usual method of just building up the wear over the first 50 miles...todays tyres need very little scubbing.. and the set i had on the Bandit were great, never let me down and rode them like any other tyres.

      They're 180/55/17 rear and 120/70/17 front... BUT they are completely different rims and these tyres will NOT fit on your standard bike as we keep getting asked! Specifically the rear, you need at least a 5" wide rim to fit that tyre.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian, strictly speaking it is sensible practice to replace both, but in the real world that is very expensive indeed, it is possible sometimes to find used discs for sale and save a lot of money... if they are a pair and match each other, and are still within serviceable tolerance, that is a greta solution to the problem... hope that helps mate

    I really dig the bike. I have a question for you about the scrambler in particular. I'm a shorter guy, and have been considering one of these. Functionally can the bike be lowered 2-4 inches with a rear fender eliminator kit, and fork lowering kit. I love the look, but was blessed with a short inseam. Yours truly an American who loves the British bikes.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      jmcd1313 Hey buddy... yeah ou can lower them a lot, the Scrambler is the tallest of the three, and TEC shocks will give you the best route...they do a short shock for the BonnevilleSE, so if you have tat at its lowest setting, and then the regular SE seat too.. you should get the ride level back to about 28"...you can cut the steel tubes in the forks to lower the front which costs nothing too.... hope that helps.. good luck with it.. Del.

    Great video! Post one of the ride difference how you like or did like tire combo! Hey by the way what is the height difference if the bike?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used these tyres before on the Bandit, they ride like regular tyres in the dry, as the face profile of the knobbles is curved like road tyres, not square like off road tyres... they are a bit harsh under 10mph, but over that they are like any other tyre... and in the wet, maybe just take a little more care, but then with all them edges cutting in to the road, they seem to grip just as well!... the rear height is the same, and the front now runs 1" lower...

  • @trinity6402

    Del, did you have to adjust the forks to accommodate for the 17" rim or did the bike handle just fine? I've been thinking about dropping to a 17" front on my scram. Looking for better cornering in the twisties.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not at all... it slots straight in... just use the original factory hub, or a correspondingly exact after market one, and it becomes just a simple parts swop and you'll definitely feel the benefit in twisty roads, specially if you invest in some chewy rubber!
