Tip 1. Have a relative who is a forest, designer, or anything else they can do.
Tip 2. Exchange anything you can with everyone
Tip 3. Have your wedding on a cheaper day (Friday or Wednesday)
Tip 4. Ask if any vendor offers a cash discount
Tip 5. Don’t do a save the date or just do a text/social media
Tip 6. Don’t do a program. Just have a big poster when people walk in.
Tip 7. Don’t do wedding favors.
Tip 8. Don’t add on anything at the venue.
Tip 9. Get ready at the venue so no transportation change.
    Tip 10. Don’t do a grooms cake.
Tip 11. Have a small wedding party.
Tip 12. Don’t stay at a hotel on the wedding night.
Tip 13. Shop around for wedding stuff because its probably cheaper somewhere else.
Tip 14. Cut the guest list.
Tip 15. Don’t buy things for traditional reasons only that mean something to you.

PRO TIP: instead of save the dates make your own design, and print them off as photos at Walmart it’s super cheap

I love that these tips are unique! I also appreciate your suggestions to go against the norm. As a bride, I found it so frustrating when I chose to skip some current norms because I thought they were pointless (like favors and a groom's cake) and people acted like I was doing something wrong. NOPE-- just wasn't in my budget!

I’ve been a bridesmaid like 8 times and I’ve never had the bride pay for my hair or makeup. I’ve never hear of that. Nor do I plan on paying for my bridesmaids hair & makeup

    • @lifewithtrenel
      @lifewithtrenel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I’ve heard someone say: if a bride requests that all bridesmaids have their hair done a certain way or have makeup, they should pay. But if the bride doesn’t care whether they do or don’t or didn’t request it but the bridesmaids want to, then bridesmaids should pay....I personally want my bridesmaids to have the same hairstyle and makeup look, so I intend to pay for them. I have friends who are aspiring MUAs though so it won’t cost too much for me.

A really good tip is to start saving before you are even engaged! If you really want an AMAZING wedding start saving even if you're single!
Imagine if you started right now. You start saving $100 a month. Let's say you get engaged in 5 years (2024) and you have a one year engagement. You will have $7,200 saved up from the last 5-6 years!
OR if you started RIGHT NOW and saved $200 a month. Get engaged in 5 years. Get married a year later. You will have $14,400 saved up!!
BUT... If you wait until 2024 to start saving .... and you want to have the wedding in a year .... it gets much much much harder to find $7,000 to $14,000 in one year.

My wedding package that I’m wanting is $15,000, it includes everything from ceremony, receptions, decorations, food, drinks, accomodation, hair and make up, cake, photography etc etc, I chose it because it’s stress free it’s an all in one package, it’s $13,000 to do it on a Wednesday haha so that’s good and I can book it two years in advance and pay it off over the two years 🙌 not sure if it is the best but that’s how I’m doing it lol

Sorry for wall of text, but I think you will find this interesting, as I certainly found the different American traditions presented in this video very interesting!
I haven't heard of half of these traditions you're mentioning, so seems like me and my partner are saving a lot already? :)
In Norway grown-up bridesmaids and/or male equivalents is a very alien thing, most people just dress up small children (of all genders) and have them carry some flowers, not necessarily in matching or severly co-ordinated outfits either.
There is no tradition of renting car(s) to leave the party, and you are not expected to pay for your family's stay or transportation either. Of course, if you are getting married later in life and have grown up children who are going to attend, many would probably consider paying for a train ticket and/or acommodations for them, but usually that is not expected, at least not for a stay of more than a night or two, depending on how far they will be travelling.
Most people don't invite many friends, colleagues or employees to their wedding either. From my own experience with family members getting married there is usually no more than six friends with no family relations with groom or bride, but usually they bring their partner and/or children.
There is no such thing as a groom's cake, and neither does wedding showers exist. I hadn't heard of either until this very morning! :D Wedding rings are paid by the couple together, and people paying more than 1200 $ for a pair of rings would be considered maniacs in most social settings. The same goes for the wedding dress. Most people pay under 500 $ for that one, regardless of income or savings. Many younger couples choose to not buy an engagement ring either.
People here usually marry in the beginning of their thirties, which does imply that there is a tradition of marrying after the economical insecurities of student life is starting to come under control. Still, Norway's poor past and pietistic ideas still affect how we as a population choose to plan the greater events of our lives, although we're definitely on the top of the list considering economy and financial stability.

A grooms cake isn't like the "Wedding Cake" , it's more a smaller person cake of something he likes. Cakes to look like a cigar box, a classic car, pool table etc.

There are only two things, that I really care about at weddings, which is the music and the food. I really want the people, at my wedding, to come and have a good time. Everything else, not so much. People don't care about the, decorations or the invitations, or guest favors. Usually guest favors, usually get left behind at wedding. So I have decided, that I would SKIP the wedding favors, all together.

I made my own save the dates on Vista Print for $75 for 120 copies in postcard format. I also made all of our decorations (felt plush hearts, glass bottles, and paper flowers), table numbers (dollar store frames) and favors (just a small antique key with a handwritten tag). Only thing was having to throw out all those bottles! We also opted for chicken and vegetarian dishes only and left out beef and seafood. I also had a photographer just be there for the getting ready part, ceremony, and group photos which was about 3 hours which practically counted as an engagement session. We had a family friend take over during the reception since nothing that fancy was happening then.

hi! I really enjoyed your video. Could you do a video (preferably) or a post on how to arrange wedding flowers DIY? Since you did it by yourself, may I ask how much you paid in total for the flower arrangement (flowers, vases, etc.)? many thanks in advance and kind regards from Berlin. :)

That would be a cool video! I love to arrange flowers for around the house. My aunt actually did the flowers for my wedding. We bought them wholesale and it was about $1100 for everything. I'll look for a video I saw recently of a really pretty flower arrangement video I watched.

thanks for the link - thats a great one! I am also wondering how much time you need to do all these arrangements and if its better to start 1 or two days before. because I am a little control freak and would probably do it myself. haha do you think thats feasible?

    • @AmandaJohn
      @AmandaJohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My flowers came in on Tuesday and my Aunt started early afternoon that day. My wedding was on a Friday, so give yourself some time! You want to enjoy getting ready the day of! We rented a fridge to store them in at the place we ordered from. If they're in a warm climate they will open up earlier. My friend Hayley Paige here on youtube did her own flowers and I think she talked about it in a wedding series video!
