In 1983, Alan Bond would go all in for the Cup, bringing together John Bertrand and Ben Lexcen in an all-out assault on the New York Yacht Club.
The Australians would bring their winged keel, and perhaps more importantly, their mind tricks, as they fought the Americans in court and out on the water.
Titus O’Reily and Mick Molloy recount the year the Australians challenged for the cup and for the first time in 132 years, prised it from the New York Yacht Club’s iron grip.

Being a yachtie from way back, I remember it like it was yesterday. I can remember everything right up to when Aus II crossed the line ... then it's a blur.
I've heard, seen and read all the documentaries, books etc, but this is GOLD. This is proper storytelling.

Everyone was watching the last race in the share house I lived in in Adelaide. I had to race off to work 45 min before it finished, and got there with 20 min or so to go.
No-one was around. There was a TV at the end of the building and everyone was there. The tension, then the point we knew it was ours, and then the win. One of the great sporting moments of my life.
Bravo Titus that was quite an extraordinary recounting of the America's Cup in all its finery and savagery. The tale almost assumes the status of a Bible reading from cover to cover. I was 24 years old at the time and remember how mad it was in Melbourne at the time during the races. The after parties, and yes there were many going on for quite sometime afterwards, were also something else and perhaps also merited or deserved some sort of cup or trophy being awarded awarded for the antics engaged in ! I also designed a special commemorative T shirt following the victory, ran mail order ads in the Herald Sun newspaper, quit my job and entered the Cup mayhem fracas full on and had so much fun for the rest of '83 that it changed my life. Yep, that year was quite a vintage to savour ! Don't remember any since that have come anywhere close. A fantastic window in time to have been alive anywhere Downunder. We were also mates with the guys from Men at Work as they lived in Prahran back then. Damn, did we sink some frothies together celebrating !
