By the 1930s, SP bookies were everywhere, with investigations discovering that every pub had an SP bookie, and the rare one that didn’t wasn’t economically viable.
After the radio had changed everything, the next bit of technology was about to change the life of the SP bookie in ways they couldn’t begin to imagine, the telephone.

TIL Titus wears a hat
😂
Great job, guys
Very enjoyable and eventually the mispronunciations ("Jock Stine" - it is of course "Steen" - "Monty Video" and, ironically, "mispronounciation") only seemed to add to the charm of the tale.
He was a legend.
I cannot be bothered to watch this. Can't stand thre interuptions!!! And I love the Tour de France and its dodgy history.
i've listened to this a few times it's so captivating. you men have absolutely smacked it out of the park with this .better than a Shahid Afridi 6,on a good day. .just think Bondy was 34 when he started this .
It's the stories that make history interesting. Loving the storytelling. Looking forward to the next episode.
Enjoyed this story, you absolutely butchered the names though ! 😂
Thank. You Thank You An amazing episode of an incredible woman so glad that You shared It
This could be a 10 part serious on just vinnie great epp cheers lads
That's my favourite so far, well done Titus.
Great series, Thanks for your effort Titus.
This was the perfect way to end the America’s Cup series. Great work to all involved.
Fantastic series. I’m really enjoying this. Very informative, but more importantly, very funny.

great story, thanks 👍👍
Amazing Titus, great to see this amazing story hitting home and getting that reaction out of you. Molloy, you could take a leaf out of his book. Blokes can cry too Molloy!!
On ya Titus
You guys should do one on Bert Trautmann who broke his neck playing a FC Cup final match
Sport bizarre are u like me and your sad to see the poms out sing and out funny us every year with there chants and songs why we chant the same 3 things from the 70s. now the blues brothers have taken off after one game in an era where social media is king can you imagine if sports bizarre work with a song wrighter and I don't know maybe a few comics that have years of experience with sports and comedy to start a bizarre army to combat the poms it would one take the podcast to another level its such a good podcast so if you got the exposes of something like that going viral well u can pay me later 😂
Great episode (as always). Nothing can compare to the 1984 Good Friday massacre. My hometown Habs vs Nordiques NHL Stanley Cup play-offs. That epitomises that era of hockey when penalty minutes were regularly higher than the total minutes in a game.
One thing I forgot to add about Larry Zeidel - he was the sole jewish player in the league at the time in the 50's and was born in Montreal in 1928 where he grew up tough. Played for 11 teams in the Canadian League and NHL. Won the Stanley cup in '52 with the Detroit Red Wings, struck absolute fear into the police and arena security, the public, his own team-mates and of course opponents, preferring to revel in their blood at room temperature. An extremely talented defender remaining a violent and unpredictable player always. At the end of his life was homeless at times and died in 2014. His brain was donated by his family to university medical research studying concussions. He suffered over 120 major ones and that's not to mention the carnage he inflicted upon others. Loved your poddie about the real Slapshot context with the Johnstown Jets, but if you want some pure ice hockey mania then look no further than Larry 'The Rock' Zeidel.
And as you also know, during those heady days of the 50's, 60's and 70's, they wore minimal protection and no helmets - what a pure spectacle of testosterone it was !
You should also read the Larry Zeidel story. He's rated as THE most violent player ever in Ice hockey history. He makes the others look tame in comparison and as you know in that game, that's a Big call !
Pure Goldie ! Gotta love Ice Hockey !
😆😆 Good story, very entertaining.
OOoff ! That's more like it Titus....what a bender and deep down a thriller !
Normally this is a great podcast but this is not one of them. What happened to Sports Bizarre ? There's still plenty of weird sports shit out there across plenty of arenas - time to get busy boys again !
Great show as always. Why is the video footage dark.
Who would have thought, Judith Lucy has a daughter that is a Taylor Swift fan.
Do you guys sell on Amazon
Keith miller,bit of a lad
Let's be Honest Braddles sneered at Keithy the mere fact that little Pommy kids used to fight over who would be Miller playing in the street speaks for itself , great chat 👍
That was the difference. Bradman was 'respected'. But Miller was loved. Especially here, in England. This pommes favourite player ever. 👍👍
@@lonestar6709 hey cheers mate Keefy was different brilliant doco ESPN Legends of Cricket Keith Miller it's done in 4 little 6-7 minute parts , The very words at the start captivates all that Miller is , it's ironic that this South Aussies favourite all Rounder is Ian Botham , Never forget his match after being hit in the Back by Jack the Knife establishment over being Captain who said he was done . Thanks for getting back I'm a cricket Tragic , love my Test Cricket , regards CJ 👌
A box that’s rocked up at the German HQ of the Paralympics after a successful 2000 Sydney games. Then 1940, some cheating bloke.. I hope you guys get to the box soon & the title of the episode. Love yaz but sheesk
The invincibles played 34 matches, won 25 and drew 9.
I reckon if I was a young bloke playing cricket with Nugget I would have worshipped the guy. What a legend, though his family wouldn't always agree.
Thanks for the laughs and the stories this year, you two. Look forward to hearing more from you in 2024
very good, thank you
Thanks Titus and Mick.
There's certainly an unending pool of Aussie talent when it comes to the bizarre and talented foolhardy characters. Well done Titus, a ripper set of podcasts with fellow madman Molloy ! Will miss your feed over the next few months but look forward to the new crop in '24 ! Especially loved the story about the nutty javelin thrower mailing himself airfreight back to Oz! Your have a natural talent for researching the weird and wonderful world of sports.
I am first and from America!
Sport bizarre need to do more afl rnl cricket episodes surely theres some crackers in there
Once you’ve read Tom Brown, read Flashman. The author took a baddie character from Tom Brown and made him an anti-hero. Hilarious and gloriously non-PC. Shagging anything that moves, gambling, cowardice, murder etc
The curse is broken! The Hanshin Tigers are your 2023 NPB champions! 🐯
"5 years in Adelaide or a death sentence?" 😂😂😂
loving the episodes! this guy is absolutely nuts lol
I was a high school teammate and friend with Tim. He was a very inteligent young man who chose USC over Stanford & Notre Dame. On graduation night I watched him drink. A glass of vodka and then eat the glass. Reconnected at our 50th high school reunion and he was as humble and friendly as he was in school. Suffered from great memory loss from too many concussions. I have many more storys I could add to these. .
Hi Richard, Please email Titus and Mick. We NEED to hear these stories!!!
@@kalebarancelovic Thanks Kaleb. It would be great to hear more tales of Tim!
The author, George MacDonald Fraser, wrote a series of historical novels based around the bully from Tom Browns School Days, Harry Flashman. A rollicking read especially for those who enjoy history.
