    Love the videos Tim. You make 100Km + Xc flights look so handy 🤣 Brilliant views and commentary. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Gerry 👍👍👍

      Cheers Gerry, it had felt like a long winter before that flight! Mind you I did miss out on a few other 100km+ days because I was away/busy…

    Hi Tim, the "GREY" glider is me, Andy Nelson. I'm a scouse XC hangie pilot from the late 80's, early 90's. On T/O I declared Abington Park Northampton goal (and got there 😊)
    I gave up flying 30 years ago! It's my first xc season back and thought I'd do it under a paraglider this time around, the clouds, thermals and triggers are still the same.
    Love your videos, btw ❤.

      Hi Andy, very nice to make your acquaintance even if it is just online for the moment! It was nice flying with you and well done on a great flight 👍🏻
      Have a think about adding your flights to the xcontest.org UK league - it’s a fun alternative to xcleague.com (or you can do both)

      humphhh im used to a map, compass and 2 cameras with film in them!! Im flying with a 30 year old vario 🤣. I need to upgrade this year ready for next year, dont know where to start!.

      Most people use an app on their smartphone these days - Flyskyhy for iPhone, or XCTrack for Android. You'll need to connect it to an external battery pack to keep it going for 6+ hours. Then add a Bluetooth vario (I sell XCTracers) and you're good to go...

    You’ve given me some extra motivation Tim , we’ll see how it pans out tomorrow (today) and see if I can’t get closer to my first 100k, I’m flying around Borso del Grappa Bassano area, last video I saw of yours was in my neck of the woods Italy where things didn’t go perfectly to plan, as we all well know can be on the cards at times 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ but as usual you made it work out okay 👍
    This flight I thought was super, hats off to you for the vid and commentary, really helpful, thanks 😊

    • @earendil2007
      @earendil2007 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I say it because of the thermal trigger, many times the towns are good triggers. The views are amazing @@TimPentreath

      Haha, it was a bit disconcerting whilst flying but good that the beeps completely matched up. Hope all’s well with you, shame you can’t make it to the Gumball this year…

    Hi Tim
    Enjoyed your flight. I’m still trying to break the 25km mark myself. May I ask a couple of questions? Do you go on your speed bar between thermals and do you use the c riser handle steering whilst on full bar or even if not on bar?

    • @TimPentreath
      @TimPentreath  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks David… re speedbar use, it depends, the stronger the wind the less I’m likely to use it, but if it’s slow then I’ll probably use maybe 1/3 to 1/2 bar. Only more than that if I’m in 2.5-3m/s sink. Deffo use B riser (I have a 2 liner) steering when using any bar. I don’t tend to use it when not on bar

    The clouds look so unreal. What a banger of a day.
    BTW: Why do you brits not choose a side when it comes to numbers already. When speaking about lift you are talking in meters, altitude its feed and distance its kilometers again 🤣

    • @TheManFromDelMont
      @TheManFromDelMont 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      our airspace is all in feet so I guess that explains part of it. I also use the same but the kms I can usually count on my fingers :D

    • @TimPentreath
      @TimPentreath  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know, it’s not clever is it 😂 Mind you m/s as a climb rate isn’t great for mental arithmetic even if you had altitude in meters. 100s ft/min is actually the best if you have alt in feet - if base is at 4500’ and you’re at 1000’ and you’re climbing at 350fpm then you know it’ll take you approx 10 mins to climb to base. Very simple! Good thing is 1 m/s is almost exactly 200fpm so you can do the sums…

    • @Itsallgoodtogo
      @Itsallgoodtogo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheManFromDelMont I just divide the feet by 3 for a rough estimate in meters :)
