The problem with these mashups is that they're usually so good that all the songs that they either introduce or re-introduce to your musical library that you can't listen to the original versions of the songs without feeling like something is missing... And I'M ALL FOR IT!

I Gotta Feeling and I Love It are two tracks that frequently crossed over in my mind even when they were new, but I lacked the skills and resources I have now, not to mention I almost definitely would've stayed unknown back then lol
The original Gotye song was recorded at a slightly flatter pitch than the standard A440 that most music uses and when Cosmic made the mashup they didn't correct for that so it's microtonally off I don't know how noticeable it is to people who don't play actual instruments but to a musician's ear it's clearly off-tune, but not so much as to be completely discordant
So glad I was able to catch both you and Jason's reactions to Live*, was able to watch Cosmic crafting part of it, and got an early preview being in the stream where they finalized the mix. It's such a fantastic set and some of it just blows my mind. A lot of the mashup scene has done that to me lately. And also SBPT is just perfection

Pop culture seems to loop back onto nostalgia in cycles - the 90s saw a disco resurgence, 80s synthwave has kinda bled back into pop since around the 2010s, and now we're seeing nu metal and EDM make a comeback in the 20s. If you think about it, it's almost obvious -- today's tastemakers are yesterday's consumers, so it makes sense art will often lean to the creator's formative years for inspiration.
Cosmic gave us 10 bangers in a row just to give all of us the equivalent of the man with stripes and glasses kind of damage with SBPT... To say that this album was a weird tip would be an understatement!
