Heya wattles, thank you so much for the blaze farm design. I just want to say, that when I built you design, I was getting the suffocation thing very often, to fix this. I have done two things. On the top layer, build straight up from all of the corners. And on all of the other levels, place a single block in each of the corners. Blazes will fall there often, and since they are doing this, we do not want them trapped in the corner or suffocating before they can drop down to the bottom. If you place the block there, it will allow the blazes to fall into those corners and not get trapped by the Pistons. Additionally, this will increase the efficiency of the entire design. Especially for those who have multiple spawners in the room

I just finished making this in my survival world, and it works exactly as described. Great tutorial! My only "problem" is that killing them at the bottom absolutely chews through cheap tools. It would be pretty easy to add a pressure plate to the spot they land on which powers a sticky piston / block and suffocates them to death, but then no XP... I wonder if there's a way to set up a tiny clock circuit powered by a button or something that softens them up to within just a heart or two... Either way, I'm swimming in blaze rods now which was pretty much the point!
Free advice... never use a pick that has efficiency V, it makes it extremely hard to mine with any control... i use a diamond pick with efficiency iii on it and it gives much better precision (its stlll plenty fast, dont worry).

I just finished building this and as I was removing the floor around the spawner I was like, they're not going into the center :( I finished it anyways and went down to where they should be gathered and to my surprise there were a lot of blaze right where the should be! This works very well and thank you for the great tutorial! Edit: I just sat for maybe 10-20mintues to let Blazes spawn and oh my god my game was so laggy from all the blazes down in the killing area!!
Wattles, thought you should know that as MR OZ pointed out below, if you place a torch on every block in the 9x9 area, blazes will not spawn. I think it you be a great idea to add this as an annotation in your video.

Now just need to make my sword have sharpness iv and mending and I'll be all set. Whatever xp doesn't go to repairing my sword will go to powering new enchants. WOOO!!! Also, gonna be mining diamonds like mad with a fortune pick to replicate the enchants on a bunch of diamond picks (cause combining enchants to level em up)

Very nice farm! To solve the problem of getting slime balls for the sticky pistons I used normal pistons with redstone inverters behind them... in that way you add only two redstone torches for each piston 👌
Is there a reason that you cant use normal pistons? If you wire them from the back, it would be possible right? EDIT: i actually used normal pistons, without any blocks in front. It works perfectly, saving a lot of resources!
Instead of putting a block at the bottom, put a hopper going into a double chest so then when you afk and the blade push the limit they will die without the loot being lost

The spawner itself is working great but my only problem is the killing part. When I hit the blazes they automatically detect me and start shooting at me which causes them to shoot each other. I’ve tried putting a half slab, a staircase and etc to limit their ability of detecting me but none of it is working. Do you have any advice on what I could do next?
There is sadly no way to prevent this. Once a blaze is hit, they all know where you are and try to shoot you through walls. The only way is a weapon that insta-kills them.
I know this is a long way from when this was a thing, but I am playing a modded world that is in 1.12.2. The only problem I am having is the corners, not bad, but the kill chamber is too far from the spawner and they will not spawn. I don't know if you will get this but thanks anyway.
Haven't tested but if you got redstone to spare, then just make each corner push them toward the existing pistons of that level. Would only require 4x (pistons + wiring + pressure plate) per level. If they get stuck in a corner they will be pushed to the main pistons, then pushed down. Thus corner will take 2 steps, instead of 1 step.
I came back to my farm and some of the piston got 0 ticked i think its due to blazes landing on multiple layers at a similar time not sure tho but putting repeaters will fix that as well
Works pretty well, only complaint is that the blaze sometimes get stuck in the blocks when they get pushed and they lose half their health. This messes up my crusher.

That could work! You could readjust the pistons as well to push blaze out of the corner. I think I am going to release an updated tutorial soon to fix this issue

Just spent 2 hours making this after gathering all the resources, making it look nice, and adding a piston crusher. Only to have my PC give me the blue screen of death as soon as i activated the crusher. I had to completely reset my PC... damnit
I don't know if this is the best design. Remember that mojang added "squishing" so now mobs have collision detection for all living things. They can't fit in a 1x1 space if not forced, and if forced by pistons, the one that can't go down will be forced to suffocate, like the center hole was blocked.
If you could cause the pressure plates to trigger non-sticky pistons placed one block closer to the center, could you avoid having to use sticky pistons? I'd really prefer not to go digging out slime chunks.
would it be easier to have lava flows going to center then just have stone plates to block it from going in the hole? or just have wither roses with a soulsand hopper

Instead of using pressure plates u can use a lever to activate the pistons and deactivate them anytime u want.If u want XP u have to stay there anyway

Ethos' grinder does exactly that. even has a system to block un-softened blazes from getting in while you kill the softened ones.

I actually did end up putting in crushers after seeing Skippy 6 video and it works perfectly.

You can disable the Spawner by placing glowstone blocks on every side of the spawner. That makes it much easier to dig out the room.

If you’re struggling with it in survival, place torches everywhere so there spawning is lowered
Or place the settings on peaceful when building it
Sold me when you accurately called out my frying pan.
I recommend using fire resistant and invisible potions. Helps out a lot when making in survival

You can always plays torches around The Spawer or to prevent them from Spawning

Can't use normal pistons because they would just push the block infront of them away, have to be sticky to keep the block attached.

Im pretty sure that on ps4 you can just put torches on the spawner and it will prevent the blazes from spawning

If you build this don't use the dust use all repeaters it makes it much more efficient the dust powers the piston on the layer below

Hm, this farm looks pretty neat. I shall try to build it in the near future, since I am in dire need of an XP farm on my singleplayer world...
if you want XP the best way is to make a Enderman farm (if you found an End portal)

Where’s the best place to afk at , I’m so confused cause there’s some places I try to afk at and most of blaze just end up suffocating
i let the spawner work for me^^ i enclose 8 blazes in a corner so the spawner stops spawning new blazes :D
