      I myself aim to be a GM (I plan on playing/running 2e Pathfinder instead of 5e DnD) like the OP of the first story; I'm also pretty much the exact OPPOSITE of a furry; I mean, I like women with pubic hair, but not hair all over their bodies, or animalian features beyond possible claws/talons for finger/toe nails and sharp teeth (the Inklings and Octolings of the Splatoon franchise are the MOST animalian looking people I find attractive.

      @@RemnantSoul I feel you; the 2e Pathfinder Core Rulebook's game mastery chapter states VERY plainly that the role of GM ISN'T a role of dictatorship on its VERY FIRST page, and the Game mastery Guide EMPHASIZES that by stating VERY plainly that as GM, while you control a LOT, you don't control EVERYTHING; ESPECIALLY not the other players and their characters on the VERY FIRST post table of contents page. I don't understand why so many people FAIL to see and understand that when it's so IMMEDIATELY stated THAT PLAINLY.

    The worst sin committed by the first DM is trying to control/change a player's character. A DM can alter backstory if it's not appropriate to the campaign world or starting level, but they cannot dictate how to run a character or what any character does without some sort of legitimate effect, like magic being involved. That is what makes this DM a particularly horrible one.

    • @Gonzilla5150

      I disagree. The worst sin was them being a furry.

    • @AuntLoopy123
      @AuntLoopy123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Exactly! A DM can say, "Sorry, but that particular bit doesn't work in my world. I'd tell you why, but spoilers. Do you WANT a suggestion? At least I can give you some broad hints, so you're not floundering." A DM can say, "I've seen what the other players have, and this party really needs someone to fill X role. There are lots of options for that. Anything strike your fancy?" A DM can say, "So, we're doing a game that is focused on X, Y, and Z, so bear that in mind, while preparing your characters." A DM can say, "Knowing what's coming, this party will require specifically a cleric, at least one alternate healer, at least one arcane spell caster, at least one sneaky type, and at least one physical damage dealer. Work that out amongst yourselves, please." A DM can say, "You all come from the area of A, and met at B location, for the purpose of C. A has X amount of diversity in the Y-Z range. Take if from there." A DM can say, "Stick to the Player Handbook, and this/these other sources." A DM can say, "We're home-brewing everything, but I get final say on all home-brews, because I need to make sure it fits my world. Also, here are print-offs of the home-brew rules I already have, along with notes of the sort of home-brew direction I'm planning to take us."
      A DM can NOT say, "No, I don't like your character. I want your character to be THIS. So, your character is THIS. So there. Shut up and eat it." Well, they can say it, but they'll lose their players.
      And regardless of what type of sex fantasy it is, even if it's absolutely vanilla, you NEVER put your sex fantasies on the gaming table without PREVIOUS consent from ALL people present. That is absolutely disgusting. It's a verbal form of sexual assault.

    I may have done this cardinal sin of writing a player's backstory for them, but I at least asked them about it before I did it. Long story short, it was my first time as GM, and one of my player's said that he was interested in being a "rebel noble". Something clicked in my brain, and I DMed my player and asked them "do you want to be the ULTIMATE rebel Noble?"
    They said that they were interested, and I informed them of a twist NPC that was going to be revealed as the estranged runaway sister of the campaign's BBEG, a member of the Infernal House Thrune from Pathfinder. The estranged sister was a CG woman, living a commoner's life as a waitress in a coffeehouse that she inadvertently turned into a cat cafe by taking in local strays. She ran away from her LE, Asmodeus worshipping family when she was 10. She was meant to be a major ally, but I offered my player the chance to play as her since they were trying to figure out a character concept for themselves.
    My player accepted the offer, and outside me sharing a few character notes for her pre-established backstory (this character was from one of Paizo's APs, some of this information was set in stone already before I even started the campaign) I let my player run through the campaign as they saw fit. It made for some interesting moments, and everybody had a good time in the end. Especially since this turned into one of the few campaigns that our group actually wound up finishing.

      The closest I've come to 'rewriting' a character's backstory was my brother's Dragonborn Warlock. During the session zero, when I asked for backstories, this brother mentioned, apart from the time he'd woken in the care of the temple of Bahamut, he had amnesia, and wanted me to decide his past. I straight-face asked him if he was prepared to give me that kind of power.

    The second story wasn't so bad, or at least it could have been a lot worse. Naked zootopia as a setting is weird at first, and I'm saying that as a furry myself, but if you explain that the people don't sexualize being nude and it's simply that, as they all have fur pelts, they don't need clothes to keep them warm or protect them from the elements, it becomes a mere cultural quirk and you move on. That said, I get the feeling that there was more going on than OP explicitly detailed.

      exactly my thoughts. I guess the players might have thought that the gm was planing on a lot more sexual content there and for that they spoke up. I feel kind of bad for the gm in this game - the way she reacted by shutting down the server might indicate that she did not plan to "lure" someone in furry game and she more never thought about her world could be an issue for others. i guess she was open to be a furry in session zero - so i as a player would have expected something in that direction

Also, I have come across younger players who wanted to convert a "Thunder Cat" into a character. Cool, I can roll with that. I created a story line were,as a kitten, they stumbled into a portal that was created by a wizard on my world to explore other versions of the Prime Material plain. I love puns, so I think the OP in story 1 was great. Except, he should have said, "NO. That's NOT how you play D&D. The DM has NO RIGHT to FORCE his own wishes onto the player characters. STOP IT, or I WON'T PLAY WITH YOU. NO D&D is better than BAD D&D, and you pushing YOUR character desires on MY PC is WRONG. Flat out WRONG. Stop it! I will NOT be a blood hunter. I will NOT be an edge lord. You can play all the edge you want, but I will NOT. If you want an edge lord character in the game, make your own DMPC and have him be as edgy as you want. Now, let me create my character as *I* see fit, or lose a player. The choice is yours. What will it be?" And if he insists on edge, you walk away.

    The biggest "no no" a DM can do: Force a PC to behave or even have thoughts/feeling about something disregarding what the PLAYER wants for the character they made.
    You DON'T have ANY control over how a PC feels, acts, thinks, whatever. You can say what a curse or spell or affliction is doing to them, but thats it. If you want characters to do what you want instead of what the players want, WRITE A BOOK, you're not DM material when you try to force bs like this on people.
    Your fetish does not matter. Your IRL pronouns do not matter. Your politics do not matter. Your ability to help make a FUN and INTERESTING campaign for your PLAYERS is what matters. They are there to have fun. They are not there to satisfy your fantasy for your amusement.

    As a furry myself both these stories were really cringe...both of course forced things onto players that they weren't comfortable with which is NOT okay in any form. The first story almost even stepped out of the lines for furries and into beastiality with the desire of wanting to have sex with another bear...which is definitely not okay and steps outside of the furry boundaries. The second story was more inline with the NPCs being humanoid but was now introducing a different kink, hypersexualization. Which, some furries aren't sexual at all and actually have only SFW and just adorable pieces of art without any sexual undertone. But to any DM: stop forcing things into games that characters aren't comfortable with...period.

    Guiding rule for me as a DM, that I also specify to my players, is that while I control my world and it's relevant aspects, they control their characters. I work with players to built a well integrated backstory and to flesh out family of that character though I do limit any connections to nobility, royalty, or deities unless there is good story for it.(can't all be lords, ladies, princes, demigods, and whatnot) I don't pick favorites on the cases where there is such connections. The consequences always follow accordingly. However, as to what a character does or doesn't like, their goals, their quirks... That is all on the player as that makes the best story and as I have said in other posts, the story dictates.

      ...to be honest, there are a few games that literally try to stamp down anyone who tries to experiment - for example, in the latest Elder Scrolls games the game boosts the enemies to counteract your level - but the problem is that you get levels by pumping ANY skill. So if your character is a diplomancer and pickpocketing expert (100 in both) he'll enter a tomb and face a Draugr that could eat dragons for breakfast, same as a maxed up stealth/archery character; problem is, the stealth archer can pepper the draugr with arrows and not get hit once, while the diplomancer will get torn to shreds.

The DM gave me this ON TOP of Lamb's personality and abilities, not INSTEAD of them, and always respected her asexuality.

    I remember joining a game and the DM started a backstory one on one session to set my character up. Originally I intended to play a spoiled, artisocratice male warlock with some weight on him, that made a bargain with a different eldritch god to escape his current coven that intended to sacrifice him.
    The DM got the gist, but for some reason, always referred to my character as she/her (I'm a woman irl, but wanted to play a male character.) I shrugged it off and decided to just go with it and swap the character's gender to female. The DM proceed to tell me in my intro session that I appeared in a dream-like fog, walking around a chamber hall. Torches line the ritual room and cloaked figures appeared to be preforming a sacrificial ritual. Upon closer look, my character discovered the sacrifice was myself, drugged and stripped naked. My character proceeded to witness her own rape and murder before everything faded to black.
    Upon waking, I was suddenly playing in the body of a little girl, freshly woven into existence by an old crone. All my memories intact. After the set-up was done, I talked frankly with the DM that, while was fantastic at setting up the scene, but I didn't really appreciate the radical change to my character, and the way in which he made it happen. His response still makes my blood run cold; "I was just building up what you were suggesting in the way you responded. Sorry."
    I feel like I could have designed the most brutish, hyper-masculine character I could think of, and he would have changed my character's gender and rapidly forced my character into being raped for some backstory. This is one of the reasons why I hate playing female characers in dnd.

    Im a furry, i play D&D, never once have i elicited anything suggestive towards any in-game character for how they look, or expressed any romantic affections or affiliations of any kind to anyone, even when two tabaxi showed up and got suggestive with my character, he would always bring up his dead wife and they would run off xD
    I do however, always play the beast races :P dragonborn, tabaxi, arracokra, kobold, kenku, i love aaaaall of them, they always bring interesting niches to how they play, like how my arracokra bard swings around a giant hammer in the form of a modified lute with his clawed feet, so i RP in combat that as he swings he flaps his wings to get some height as he jumps on the spot so he can do a front flip above an enemies head before crashing down on them with the hammers inertia, or how my sorcerer kenku cant speak (as most kenku dont) so he communicates by using his storm mage powers to manipulate the granules in a hand-held bowl of dirty water to spell out symbols and letters that the party interprets as words for them to understand.
    Getting creative with a character instead of trying to live out your annoying incel fantasies, especially if you are a furry, is how you can really bring out the best of that character, use their biology to give them flavour in RP, instead of using them to bang stuff :D

    1.) A Poor Start
    // Edge.... said he would give us all an extra boon.....my Half-Elf Cleric of Selune, could turn into a Werebear.
    Already this is a bit out of line to be dictating such an important aspect of someone else's character. If you're giving a "*boon*," the player should be choosing from a list unless they already agreed to be given a pre-generated character.
    2.) Yikes
    // My Half-Elf Cleric was male, but a bishonen who had an upbeat and supportive personality, at least that's how I envisioned him. He grew up in an orphanage and the caretaker was essentially my surrogate mother.
    //
    // Edge began pushing the Blood Hunter class on me....
    //
    // .......telling me how my father had abandoned me after my mother was brutally killed by vampires.....
    //
    // .......and how it filled me with a fanatical hatred of vampires.....
    //
    // .......and how bitter and vengeful my character was.
    //
    // .......he watned to make my character as hyper masculine as possible.........
    So many things wrong at this point, OP should have been out the door. Of course we wouldn't have an RPG horror story if people all had good boundaries.

    Clarify:
    Being a furry isn't a fetish. Some Furries for example just like the community, the art or simply some movies like Zootopia, the Robin Hood where he's a Fox, etc.
    It's like saying liking cars is a fetish. Of course there are people who feel sexually attracted to cars but just because you like cars doesnt mean its anything sexual. It's basically just a stereotype.
    Furry Stereotypes that are not always the case:
    Gay(alot are but not all)
    Furry is a Fetish (No, but its a part of the fandom)
    Furry Stereotypes that are true:
    Cringe(We embrace it and laugh about it ourselves)
    We spend alot of money for furry stuff (i myself paid 200$ on the character in my pfp alone for example)

    I never understood DMing or playing your fetishes in DnD. Unless everyone is into it and/or okay with roleplaying it you are going to make someone uncomfortable, that's kinda how fetishes are. Even as a furry I may put an element of it into my character, like say a wolf shaman in Shadowrun, but I'm never gonna push it as a fetish as while it may be a thing I'm into I'm nervous and uncomfortable about acting it out in front of people, and most people would be uncomfortable with me acting it out in front of them. And maybe this limits my ability just a little bit, I'm willing to accept that there are things I can get better at, and maybe I'll be able to one day better read the room and scale in and out elements that I'm not comfortable with for genuine roleplay reasons for other people. Until then though, I'm really going to avoid things I'm not comfortable with putting in a game, and should a player/DM tell me that there is something I'm doing they aren't comfortable with I'm likely to rearrange my character as needed to remove it entirely.

    As a dm, I make sure I don't mess with the actual characters unless I talk to the players about it first.

      I did this, I talked to my player about his PC might be pushed to multiclass into something, but only if he was willing to accept it (otherwise I would just change the plot); He liked the idea, but he didn't want to know what he would multiclass. Right now he's playing a paladin, but in about 3 sessions he may be playing a Hexadin with a Lawful Good alignment sentient weapon as a patron.
      The fucking weapon itself is a fucking nuke it can do like 30d20 of radiant damage to hostile creatures on a radio of a whole city, but at the cost of his PC life (Which personally I don't like that kind of stuff, but my player does and make his PC around the whole concept of self-sacrifice or somehow end as a hero if he doesn't die halfway, if he wants to sacrifice his PC I would make sure it will be one of the most epic sacrifice ever seen for my player).

    When I read "furry DM" in the title i knew it was gonna be a cringy DM, and then remembered i am myself a furry DM, and that everyone loves my dm'ing and don't care i'm a furry. Maybe it's just this DM from the video idk

    I don’t get DMs that punish and have grudges, the point is being impartial. The fun part for be is being impartial, I’m just the calculating machine with a slight bias toward my players fun 🤷‍♂️
    Even if I’m annoyed at you I’m not gonna get you through the game like a child

    Protection From Evil And Good has nothing to do with the fact, that the enemies are neutral.
    The spell works on certain types of creatures. These are the things why I think some this cringe stories are fabrications. If you do not know how your spell works, that is a little sus.

      In the stories original posting on r/rpg horror stories, the poster did specify creature types, not sure why it was changed to neutral.

      @@RAClaus3 I do not know, if you have a story of evil fay on an Island, without any fay, it is an effort.
      But even then, the next paragraph, is about the boss that is a fey/celestial/Undead combo. All three of that thing is effected by Protection From Evil And Good.
      The player knows what was the type of the monster. Undead is the most easier type of thing to identified, without meta knowledge.
      Some GMs can be idiots, but saying that your magic is not working on intended targets, is a rare thing, outside of sus stories.
      These are the game facts of common knowledge, like saves, and how fireball works.
      I still think it is a little sus. Maybe the player was the most unsure, confrontation avoiding personality. Maybe the GM just lied of the nature of the enemies, (What is super hard in this case). I saw issues with Protection From Evil And Good with undercover demons, where the GM overlooked, but not with fey/celestial/Undead boss.
      This is like if in some story someone would say, "So I casted Turn Undead, to mingle in the Undead Hoard, but the GM was mean, and required me to roll a deceive check".
      Yea it is mean, but the spell is not turning your character to undead! :D

      @@Aegis482 Alright, a little more feedback, I am the OP of the story, so I will elaborate a little more. When we got to the island the DM had an NPC tell us that the evil fae were trying to sink the sky island. He even had a hag mock us from a distance. Naturally, knowing in character that our foes were fae, I prepared the spell. He then proceeded to not throw a single fae creature at us, they were either monstrosities or constructs, he even made the satyrs, monstrosities, instead of fae. Our Bard did the arcana check for the hybrid creature, and he smugly told us it was those three types combined while at the same time being none of them, so my protection from good and evil would be useless against it.

      @@RAClaus3 In that case, I am sorry. The story was misrepresented in the video.
      By that it has all the red flags, to make is sus. It looks like someone really wanted to tell the Beast***ty story.
      Tis is why, I am very carful to play in custom worlds. Keep on playing D&D, and I wish less of these king of "strange" people.

    If a DM wants to make a world inhabited mostly by animal-like races, that's fine, as long as they tell the players upfront and aren't weird about it. Could be an interesting campaign setting as long as it's not just the vessel for the DMs weird fetishs

  • @5paulo

    I'm a bit confused by the second story.
    From the description my first thought of 'naked' was 'cartoon naked', you know, like Duck Tales, etc. How's that a fetish? Because 'furry' is about anthropomorphised animals and that's very vague of what ot entails. Unless there's much more of the story we aren't being told.
    But the DM should have been honest from the outset about what they go for. Some people might dig it, some might want more conventional fantasy.
