Could You Afford To Have 11 Kids? | Britain's Biggest Families | Origin

  • Raising and educating your child can often be challenging for both the child and the parent. But how do the biggest families handle educating and raising so many kids?
On this week’s episode we see how Britain’s supersize families handle education and planning family outings; The Salim’s 11 kids and the Sullivan’s soon to be 12. What are all the problems that come with these day to day tasks for huge families and what tricks do they have to manage it all?
In the Salims’ Rochdale home, ex-teacher Mohammed wants to instil a love of education in his children. But with no routine and non-existent bedtimes, the kids are the rulers of the house. Despite the chaos, seventeen year-old daughter Maryam knuckles down to study for her A-levels whilst supervising the homework for all her younger brothers and sisters. But she fears that just like her unemployed dad with 7 degrees, doing well in school might still not leave her with good options in life. So Mohamed is taking the kids on a trip to the Manchester Science Museum to try and pass on his own love of education to his many children, but even with a mini bus and enough sandwiches to feed an army, can he keep his pack of wild youngsters under control and still teach them something?
In Kent, the Sullivans take a very different approach to discipline with their children. Tanya and Mike home-school many of their eleven children and believe routine creates order. They want to protect their large brood from the negative sides of society and dream of one day moving their supersized family to a remote part of Ireland where they plan to live self-sufficiently. But with this remote lifestyle, Tanya and Mike realise that their kids need time away from them to socialise with other children their age. Taking the kids to Boys Brigade and Girls Brigade is their solution, but doing this for so many kids is no easy feat, with transport and supervision requiring their own unique solutions. Nothing these parents can’t handle with their military style of discipline. But with Tanya expecting her 12th baby any day how can they keep up their plans to be self-sufficient whilst still caring for so many children?

The Sullivan's are the example of a truly functional very big family in every respect and deserve a grade of A+ if they stop with the latest addition. They are coming to the end of managing financially shown by having to wait for their next stage. They are right in their realisation they want to get into a country dwelling having a more self sufficient life style and more room they will need. The wife will need to be the one who is more responsible for their garden of many plants and some livestock with the aid of her children in the afternoons, after their home schooling is done. A self sufficient life style takes time as it's not just growing more produce, but turning it into preserves. She has to maintaining her health at the current level for this. The husband will be kept busy with his work which he may expand in hiring others as a business. She has already pushed her risk levels over the numerous c-secs she has had. It won't be pretty once adhesions and uterine rupture come into play, even fatal or disabling for her or another baby, changing the course of everything they have achieved. Seriously not worth the gamble. The many miscarried pregnancies are very likely due to implantations in the vicinity of adhesions. Problem is loving having more babies without an adequate understanding of reaching super high risk status doesn't register till having a catastrophic outcome
