I was thinking about the a1 after already owning the a7riv for my 2nd body. But I really thought about “do I need it”? I could have swung it but I found a sweet a9 with 411 on the shutter count and picked up it, the 135mm GM, the sigma 105mm f1.4, and the Sony 200-600 for just a little over what I would have paid for the A1. So I am extremely happy with my choice.
I'm perfectly happy with my A7III and the A1 would be overkill for my type of use anyways -- however I appreciate in depth reviews always. Amazing how far we've come.
Is the autofocus giving you many more shots in focus than the a7r4 Id be interested to see a video of a demanding scene how many each camera got in focus
Thanks! Ffrom jpegs it seems to be on pair with my A7R III and slightly behind A9 II at ISO6400 and 12800. With noise reduction turned to off. I much prefer comparing noise from RAW files though when looking at my final image to tell how usable it is.

My perfect camera would be a 24MP A1, or A9iii, which records video up to 6k60 in FF mode and turns into an A7s3 in s35 mode. But I'll grab the A7iv right away.
I would love to have the a1. I just upgraded from the a7 r-2 to the a7r-3. I was looking at the a9-2 but Sony had a sale I couldn't resist on the r-3 @ $1900 brand new. Drooling over the a1. 🤤

Hey! That camera was just a demo unit from Sony. I do want to upgrade my A7RIII’s to A1’s, but need two identical bodies for my work, so waiting for things to get back to normal to actually pull that trigger, these are not cheap! Not a member of PPA, I’m from Poland 🇵🇱 🕺🏻
Hey Magic, nice review! You shooting to a CFExpress and also to an SD card, and it made me curious. If you shoot redundantly to both cards, and you shoot RAWs to the CFExpress card and JPGs to the SD card, how fast does that clear?
That’s something I haven’t checked to be honest! From my experience with different Sony cameras the buffer speed will always clear with the slower speed, so if there’s slower card - both will go at this speed. So with Jpgs my guess would be it’s gonna save with the speed of whichever of those is slower - jpgs to slow card or raws to fast card. Sorry haha hope that’s not to complicated what I’ve just tried to say!

Ask yourself the honest question. Why would I need all that ....I'm sure you'll come to your censes and get a used a9 if you want to shoot sports and save $$$$
To be honest - I do have an a6600 with the 70-200/4 and the 200-600 (and some more APS-C lenses) already. I will adapt the Zeiss SSM 24-70/2.8 and the 70-400 G2, which builds my dream team with the a99ii already - sure the 100-400 GM would be better, but I will not go for rip-and-replace - that's the beauty of the Sony system. Maybe the 135/1.8 and the 28-60 find the way into my bag the next 12 months - let's see.
Gerald Undone found that when you shoot this camera in 8K with a dummy battery you get no overheating which means unlimited recording. Now I am a wedding photographer/videographer and while I would LOVE to own this camera as its in my humble opinion the BEST camera in the world! but the price, OMG the price and 50MP files sheesh, I think you cant shoot it in MID size so to be honest the best camera for hybrid shooters will be the A7IV. I bought the A7SIII which pretty much has the A1 AF system without the fast burst capabilities. It will be second body for photography and either I will get the A7IV as main camera or maybe even get a second A7SIII and be done with it as its an amazing photography camera even with 12MP
There's nothing about this camera that you'll ever need to shoot a wedding never . It would be a waste of money unless you're a paid sport photographer
Dear Magic Thanks for your first impression video I shoot Sony A7R4 which in many ways is a great camera. However the High iso performance is in no way impressive and I think as both a sport and wedding photographer High Iso performance is important. I notice that both you and other Sony ambassadors do not comment on high iso performance. How do you evaluate the high iso performance compared to A) skii and A7R4 Kind regards Peter
Hey Peter! I did say that I don’t know how this camera perform in terms of ISO, as I’m not able to open the RAW files yet. But I do want to test it out against A7R3 and A7R4 as soon as I’m able to. But also for me personally, the ISO these days is soo goood in almost every camera, that it’s hard to believe it’s not gonna perform well. Also I’ve been using 2x A7R3’s as my main cameras for three years, and as much as A7III or A9 are better, I have no complaints with my cameras. But it’s a very subjective matter - how much tolerance are you able to agree for with noise. Thanks for comment, I’ll add iso comparison as soon as I’m able to!

this is my dream camera! if they only had a flippy screen I would have to buy it. Maybe they will come out with a version with flippy later. I do a lot of vlogging but also other video and photo stuff. pretty expensive for my budget too. maybe someday. Thanks for the review of it. *I still use the Panasonic GH5 but want to upgrade.
Covid has been really weird here, although recently we're on the lower number. You have to wear masks in general public places like streets, shops, public transport etc, but don't have to when in park, garden or forest.
Nice review, thank you. I'm A1 user, no doubts A1 is an amazing camera, but.... Sony advertise promises much higher shutter speed as achievable. I am upset about it. Spending so much money I'm absolutely expecting that the product spec shows clearly what the cam is able achieve. No I'm expecting that independently on the product price. That's why product specification is there. Pretty easy. Disappointing Sony!
@@petermagio4795 It's not about what is good enough to me. A1 is probably the best camera on the market currently. What you see is not what you get, that's the point.
I’d say it is a wedding camera too. It’s camera suitable for literally everything. Even Sony (to my surprise) showed the wedding photos of Cristiano Ostinelli and some behind the scenes of him shooting in A1 promo. I could bounce ball the same way and say it’s not a sports camera, as who needs those massive files :)

Sure if you have deep deep pockets of money burning a whole I'm your pocket by all means buy it ..not my mone . But as a guy who's shoot everything from auto racing to something as slow as a wedding , I'm 60 so I started all that on film. This camera is way way to much work in lite room an post editing 🥺. Let's be real here it's a Sony flex camera that no one needs . The a73 has been all the camera anyone ever needed for still and video , and if you must shoot sport the a9 mark one 3 times cheaper is the one if your a Sony guy . Like I said hey if you win the lottery buy this hell buy 3 😆😆😆 just my opinion
Canon R5 is the King of Kings atm till R1 comes out 😂😂😂hype is over mate Sony Ambassadors are blind quite often and you are no exception. Built quality is crap , warranty only for 2 years , rest Is nothing what R5 doesn’t offer

A1 is faster then any other Sony camera in this regards. I still would think it’s not as fast as top DSLRs, but much faster than any other Sony
