@@ElfTaleFilms How can you comment so nonse? And you think this colorist can convert your shitty 8-Bit A7III footage into 10-Bit? Oh youtube I love you!
Dude, the way you walked step by step through the color science analysis was so, so very helpful. I could feel myself getting smarter as I was watching this video. Thank you!
They are same 8k, but RED is a better 8k. Same with Samsung S21 ultra and iPhone 12 pro max camera, they have 4k, but on Samsung S21 ultra, the 4k is much better. But the smoothness of iPhone camera is the King to me.
Two things for the overheating, first is lift up and tilt out the screen and it will significantly help with the overheating, second is that there is an extended overheating mode that increases the limit before the camera overheats. Been using the increased limits on my Sony cameras for years, and still haven’t had a problem
I personally think you could justify it even more. I think it's three cameras in one. It has the video of the A7S series The high megapixel count of the A7R series and the super fast speed of the a9 series. It's literally a jack of all trades and a master of all of them lol
We forgive the misinformation on overheating due to your unfamiliarity with Sony cameras. Plenty of reviewers have tested it to bits and had a hard time overheating it by doing one simple menu change. There is a setting called “Auto Power Off Temp”, its default is standard, set that to HIGH and enjoy unlimited 8K recording as long as you have power and card space. Tested extensively by all other sony creators (Gerald Undone, Potato Jet, Phillip Bloom). The menu setting is located on the Briefcase icon, page 8, power settings.
perhaps you should be mindful of your sources, primarily Sony creators can be biased, and at times even rely on not being too harsh to continue getting access to free loaner bodies and previews
I, too, prefer Canon colors and love the RF cameras!! I have the same ideology. When he showed the color test, I immediately said, "Canon is on the right. No question." Then when he was explaining the differences, I'm like, "Yep, yep, yep, yep." And when he finally revealed which was which my mouth dropped to the floor.
If the Canon was set on Cinema EOS Original color matrix instead of Neutral, in the log settings, that could explain the difference between canon and sony. Cinema EOS Original, at least on my Eos R, makes my log footage look more yellow, and mutes some red tones.
Great Video! Extend out the screen on the back and it won't over heat, that allows for better air flow. Also it won't overheat with an external power supply or when using a 'Sony Vertical Battery Grip,' even with the screen fully closed.
I don't think anyone spends over 5k for a camera because OF THE CAMERA, they spend that money because of their skill, the nature of their work and the assurance they can deliver an image when it counts
I'm curious how the colour science of the A1 compares to the A7Siii. Oh man, I wish they put a flip screen or 2-axis tilt screen on the A1, it would be my perfect camera!
for me on the color quiz i already prefer the right one from the jacket alone, skin is close enough but the jacket is way more natural looking on the right.
Nice video for the amount of time you had it, but having reviewed and used the A7S III, you should've known that you can 100% change the internal hear limit to 'High'. This is a huge sticking point that you missed and should be addressed.
Hi there Jake - I am starting out with one of Sony’s professional cameras, they are really good and I am thinking of joining your masterclass which some of my mates are doing. I would love to get better at filming and your course would be really good I think. I hope you are having a great day!
I gotta agree with you Parker that Sony A1 is a work horse. When your starting out I don't recommend putting out $6500 for a camera but if you're already making money with your camera than go for it. Any way that you can shorten the amount of time it takes you to finish a project at a higher quality the better.
This is great to see that mirrorless camera from Sony and Canon and also Panasonic are now able to provide multi-purpose camera that can be used in many different situation that a cinema camera almost impossible to do. I think the biggest advantage of owning this camera is the features that were putted inside a small form factors. Maybe the biggest con is just about the camera's dynamic range that separates them from the cinema cameras lineup
Sadly theres no competition at this time, and you have a lot of videos comparing it with REDs etc, maybe Canon R1 in near future, but who knows what they will offer :)
Ok... you convinced me, im getting the Sony A1... i just need to save the $6,495 I’m missing to be able to afford it ;( I’ll stick to my a7iii for now.
Haha yea. I've enjoyed the a7iii. I'm an amateur though. Autofocus and low light ability on it is amazing for its age. I want to get good at film making before I get into high end cameras
EVF blackout when sun is at your back (happened to me 1st 5 minutes using it) and IBIS shake for up to 10sec with initial acquisition (non OSS lens) if camera is held downward and then raised takes the shine off this over hyped camera...
Of course, you changed the overheating warning from the default low level, right? Because Potato Jet showed you can put it in an oven and shoot indefinitely.
I just wish the screen articulated and bummer about the overheating... That's a bummer. Did you mention you can dial in the shutter for flicking light or that the shutter door closes? That's a huge benefit to keep dust off the sensor. Wish my A7siii had that. Gerald Undone says the A1 has better dynamic range as well than A7siii. Though lowlight isn't as good.
Well done! I recently had a chance to spend a day comparing these 2 cameras, and had mostly the same reactions all around- for example, I was also blown away that Sony’s colors were so much better than Canon’s. And I HATED the colors on Sony’s older cameras like the a7iii!
Iam sure 8k 10 bit looks amazing on the big screen hard to tell on youtube compared to a high bit rate 1080p especially watching on a cell phone or tablet. Thanks for the video.
I don’t know how you did the overheating test but I’ve heard that if you tilt the screen out it performs much much better, and that’s probably why it didn’t overheat while actually using the camera
Researching this camera tells me one thing.. If you spend 6500 for the camera you need the spend the extra 375.00 for the battery grip. It solves almost every issue you mentioned. Also it sounds like you didn't have the camera set for "high" heat before shutdown. It extends the length of record time extensively. Quite frankly for the right pro 7000 with the battery grip is a steal if you think about it.
I totally had it wrong. Thought the Cannon on the right side. How much do you know about the PANASONIC AG-DVX200? I respect you guys and wondered how you view it as a camera overall. Thanks tor the insight, looks like I’m ordering a new toy. Sony’s stepped it up big time🤛🏽 Great review
Hey brother what would you recommend for someone doing both photography and video in terms of a single camera and lens(es) if budget/cost was unlimited? So far I am thinking either Sony Alpha 1 (A1), Sony A7IV, or A7SIII . Ignore prices, I looking to buy once/cry once on most versatile camera & lens(es) setup.
I just had mine delivered. It also heated up while I was sorting out the menus. I've read that a firmware update might solve this but haven't had to e for that just yet. How did you guys get over that problem? Thanks
The menu heat is normal. Change the "Auto Temp" setting to HIGH. The default setting is much too aggressive for no reason at all. If you do any long term recording you will have to film with the lcd pulled away from the body to get the long recording times without overheating. 8k is the most taxing for heat and if you want "extreme" non stop recording times (hour plus) get the battery grip. Most of the shut down heat is because of the battery getting hot inside the body.
Does anyone know if an external monitor can be used via HDMI from the A1, WITHOUT the A1 switching off its internal display when recording? I’ve got the A7SIII and it’s such an improvement over the A7iii in terms of monitor both the cameras display and an external Small HD monitor when shooting.
The first Sony Camera which is worthy of rivaling the Canon R 5 awesome......better having both the R 5 and A 1 especially fir dual angle videos or if you ad a third the Panasonic S1H.....i would say that would be the perfect 3 cameras for ne, for creating high quality videos
The overheating problem controversy actually was not so much the overheating but the artificial overheating based on a timer & 2 hr cooling period. I would like to know if the heat limit was set to high with the screen out on the A1 - R5 owner👀
