Regarding the “by the telling…” line, here is my interpretation. The song is basically laying out that everyone is damaged or wounded in some way and we carry these secrets, struggles, sadness or hate as a weight, like “armor, anchor, lead and stone.” By the telling may they all become feathers references the earlier lines of sharing our mending and “show and tell.” If people could understand that we all are going through our own struggles maybe we could help each other overcome instead of tearing each other down. Then this weight we all collectively carry (the armor, anchor, lead and stone) could be light as feathers.
Spectacular tune!!! Love the entire album. REQUEST: Perfect Circle does “When the Levee Breaks.” Check the live version from Red Rocks in Colorado. PLEASE
Feathers, as in feathers in your cap. As it relates to this song, to me, the overcoming of personal trials: Trials as heavy as lead and stone, despite undue odium. Show and tell, share, and we can make it through. And by the telling, when all is said and done, let them become achievements, let them become feathers.
APC toured in 2017, and I got to see them in Kansas City. They were performing 'Feathers' and 'Hourglass' - as well as 'By and Down' - at that time, and it was sort of an introduction to what was to come. And yes.. the title track is 👌
YO YO YOOOOOO, I hope I'm not the only one that didn't want this reaction to end when it did. Loved the reaction/breakdown! Smokey, you sir, are a treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom. Hollywood, as soon as MJK starting singing, your face is exactly how I think I looked when I first heard the man sing this song. Man, we're cut from the same cloth homie. I'm beyond thrilled to have come across your channel. Love you guys and the TT family. When I first got this cd 💿, this was my (and my son's) favorite track. My son is my life so this song has an emotional connection for me. I'm w @Marissa North... choked up every time I listen to it. Be safe and well. ✌️
I haven't watched television for years, so most of what I remember is rather vague. But I seem to remember cartoons (or something) where the character would disappear and leave a fluff of feathers behind. Thats what I think of when I hear this song. It talks about sadness and wounds and seems to indicate that by speaking of them with each other, instead of internalizing them, they will either dissappear or become light and inconsequential. Like disconnected feathers. So, in my opinion it's definitely worthy of a tattoo.
The way I see the lyrics. Think of a support group setting. Armor, Anchor, Lead and Stone are things that weigh you down. He says that by sharing your wounding May they all be Feathers.
Hey guys! This is an amazing song and I'm so glad that you guys reacted to this but can you guys react to Downer, Serve the Servants, Floyd the Barber, Sliver, Sifting, Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle, Verse Chorus Verse, Mr. Moustache, And Dive which is all songs by Nirvana? (Saying this until you guys respond Day 6)
By "the telling" talking about the burdens we all have (therapy) "may they become feathers" may your personal, psychological, heavy burden be lifted from your shoulders.
If you want to take it back to ancient Egypt (and why not, it’s Maynard). There is a belief that the heart recorded all the good and bad deeds in a person’s life, and was needed for judgement in the afterlife. After a person died, the heart was weighed against the feather of Maat (goddess of truth and justice). So, if you interpret this using that concept and bring it back to something more present, you get this idea that at our telling (a moment of truth) we all hope we can carry our heavy burdens (Armor, anchor, lead and stone) and ultimately be as light as a feather (released from these burdens). It’s such a beautiful concept to live by. We could all use a way to unburden ourselves and remove the weight off our backs. We all carry so much of it around. The line “eyes of secrets, storm and story, show and tell we’ll make it through” is addressing what we hide behind our eyes. All the secrets we keep and the storms they can cause, but by sharing them we can somehow release the pain. “Onus, fate and undue odium” is basically taking responsibility for our fate and our undeserved hatred. This is Maynard at his most poetic moment. It has been my favorite track off this album from listen #1.
"By the telling, may they become, may they all be feathers." Through honest truths, from human to human - through the sharing of our experiences and by the understanding that human experience is a shared one of suffering; that are all wounded and burdened and scared - we can help each other and, in turn, make things just a little bit easier for ourselves.
My fav from this album & top 3 APC tracks overall Weight of words and wars we carry/ Onus fate & undue odium, armour anchor lead and stone -> traumatic/emotional mental baggage holding you down. Show and tell, we'll make it through/ by the telling may they become feathers -> share your truths with loved ones and thr burden will be shared & lessened.
I’m right with you guys when it comes to how I feel about MJK….once in a lifetime artist for sure ….I can remember buying “Emotive” the day it came out . I was super excited & I pop it in my car stereo & about an hour later I chucked the CD outta the window I was so let down by it 🤷🏼♂️I don’t think my expectations were too high it was a boring album, other than that though I love everything MJK does 🖤🥶
I don't comment a lot of videos and stuff but I just wanna say that you guys are amazing, truly. I just got out of a 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 really hard time in my life and I am so grateful I did. I was to the point to where I didn't want to live anymore and I felt like nothing mattered anymore and that I didn't either. I'm honestly surprised I didn't end it all when I was feeling that way. but thankfully some amazing people and my bf managed to pull me out of it and get my head out of the clouds, and for that I am forever grateful. And I just want to let anybody know, whoever is reading this, it will be okay. I promise. It may take a while to start feeling like your old self again. hell it may take moths, maybe even years but you always have to keep going. I know I sound like some cheesy motivational speaker but don't give up. it's probably the worst thing you could do is to give up. I almost did and it was bad. really bad. just know you are so unique and amazing yourself and nothing can break you apart and make you crumble. I love all of you and I wish you a good Day/Night -A
I take it as the burdens of soldiers returning from war. "By the telling" are those group therapy sessions. Hoping they'd all be light as feathers if they'd just let it out.
This song and the title track are my favorites! By the telling may they all be feathers to me means that if you share your story it may just help lighten the load of all the burdens and weight you carry around. Therefore doing your part to lighten the load of our species.
I saw this song performed live for the first time ever live in Vegas. Talk Talk is one of my favs off ETE still think it's the 3rd best APC album out of the 3. Please do "Grey Area" from Puscifer.
Feathers IMO, could mean that if we could all come together as individuals to form wings to allow us to soar as a society together. Basically if we all come together and work to better our society and grow as people. Just a thought!!
APC never misses. Hey, can you guys please PLLEEEEAASE react to S.U.I.T (So Us Is This) by Blindspott? They're a massive band here in NZ and they go freakin hard! They're basically Nu Metal. They've been around since the late 90s. I think you two would bloody love them 🤘🤘
I dont know that your live stream was tonight so dont see you ! Now i'm angry about me cause i was thinking that your live stream is at next night ! Greatings and love from germany ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Hi guys. How's it going. So I was wondering if u could take time out of your busy schedule to react to a song from Fear Factory called Collapse. Its a banger. Thanks...😁
I don't think I would get along with Maynard personally, I don't take well to rude humor. If i said that to him he would blow up, as I would because my mother was taken from in a car accident very tragically
Had to come back to this one. I really think it's about people are the same. No matter where we're from. "I'm like you." He's wishing the weight of everyone's lives won't be too heavy. Feathers.

Couldn't have said it better
I agree with you at 100%
A shared weight is lighter.
My cousin died before this album & she was a huge fan. This song makes me think of her😪
I was stuck in the airport in Chicago for 12 hours waiting for my flight. It was right after this album was released and I had it on repeat. Crazy!
Best song on the album. One of MJK best vocals and lyrics of any song
Spectacular tune!!! Love the entire album.
REQUEST: Perfect Circle does “When the Levee Breaks.” Check the live version from Red Rocks in Colorado. PLEASE
Definitely, that's one great song.
Yes!!!! That red rocks version is unreal!
I 2nd this motion
Delicious. You forgot Delicious. It's track 8 on the album Eat the Elephant by A Perfect Circle.
They played this and hourglass when I saw them at the Verizon Amphitheater over by Cumberland Blvd before ETE was announced. It was incredible.

Traitors-menace to society
Left to suffer-anger
My interpretation of this song is how gossip and rumors affect us. It’s reminiscent of the famous monologue from the play/movie DOUBT.
I challenge anyone to find a singer with the vocal range of Maynard. He is a rare cat.
Damn. I have to agree with you... I was convinced that 13th step was their pinnacle. But this album is something different. I'm so confused
' The Package ' on the album Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle. EPIC!
Don’t forget to react to the song “Delicious” from eat the elephant. You guys named DLB and the title track but you have done Delicious yet either.
"Eat the Elephant" should be next if you guys want some more of that angel voice from Maynard!!!
Yes!
They won't touch it. I've been mentioning it since the day it came out.
The way I see the lyrics. Think of a support group setting. Armor, Anchor, Lead and Stone are things that weigh you down. He says that by sharing your wounding May they all be Feathers.
Maynard will never tell you what the songs mean. Lol
He's been asked on interviews. In the 90's He just smiles when asked .

By far my favorite track on this insanely incredible album.

Cant wait for this weeks Slipknot Saturday
13th Step is my favorite APC album.
I always saw the use of feathers as we are just a feather in the 1%s pillow. They sleep just fine even tho we are under them suffocating.

Just a heads up, you guys have 3 tracks left "Eat The Elephant," "Delicious" and "D.L.B." 😊

I'm finally getting to see Puscifer live on All Hollows Eve Nashville and I'm taking my son to see his first ever concert 👍 🪨 🎸
