I own two Mark III blue stripes. One is simulcast DRGX the other 100/60 HRGX. Prefer the non Simulcast it’s more in your face. The III continues on the same lineage as the 2C+ more so than the IV IMHO. Very underrated amp.
i prefer the triaxis models myself. the lead 2 modes in the triaxis have the treble shift and the pull shift (fat) on by default and i think they're a bit easier to dial in. i also owned a triaxis for years, so i'm probably a little biased.
my personal II-B is really a different beast.. and I love it of course.. but I've often wondered how the II-C+ would have been through all those hard rock and hair metal years.. but alas Simul Class and the II-C+ came out about a year or so after I bought my II-B direct from Randall and his team in Petaluma circa early 80s.. it's nice to see you bonding so well with the FAS Mesa Boogie amp models sir.. keep it up please!
@@LeonTodd he's still knocking around I think.. if we were in the same time zone I'd be happy to let you try mine.. LOL. it's living the easy retirement life.
Man, I’ve got a MK V 35 combo from a few months ago and the 5 band eq. is the main thing to sculpt the tone. From savage Metal to Americana rock-folk styles, it beats the rest !!! So, I’ve got an AXFX III mark II too and depending on the gig, I go with the combo and pedals or with the Fractal.
Yessssss, the tone at the end is awesome. However, sometimes the tones sound a bit like the guitar has the volume knob turned down to 5. It doesn't seem to have the "balls". It could be that the gain on the fractal is at like 5, or because there's hardly any bass. Perhaps the lack of a bass in a band/recording mix is ideal but if I had a fractal, I'd be curious to know what it's like with the gain on 10 and bass about 2-3 o'clock. I really need to buy a fractal. It's just so damn expensive and no power amp or expression pedal included! hehe! You rock Leon!
I have an ‘86 Mk3 purple 60w, reverb and no GEQ that I love but some days it just seems off. I also have the synergy 2cp but it doesn’t sound as full as my mk3 😢. Wish the AxeFX 3 had a mk3 version
Hello my good friend.. That is wild that the treble control is what controls gain.> Wow.. I'm shocked.. I've never played a boogie 2 C.. I've played the rectumfrier. 😛 It sounded great with a Green pedal boost.. 😛 Man, you have these things figured out. I swear you could operate a space ship if aliens came to earth and said "Want to drive". 😛 I would hop right in with you and say let's go. We'll figure it out.. LOL.. Great video brother.. As always sir.. All your videos' are always, ALWAYS so good and so informative. Man, when you dialed that amp in, it sounds so sooo good in my sony headphones brother! What was the boogie that John Sykes used? He got some great tones live I know when I saw him with Blue Murder. I think he was using a boogie then, but I may be wrong.. I know live he sounded so good with the Black LP Custom and that Gibson Dirty Fingers pickup! God it was glorious brother! You would have loved it.. I wish I could take you back and have you experienced it. Be well sir and be safe.. It's hotter than satan's wife here 🙂
The first boogies were modified Fender Princetons so it's probably just building on the same core principle. Pretty sure Princetons, and most old Fenders, have the tonestack up front.
Amazing Video Leon. Keep Ripping Brother. Much love as always.❤️🤘🖤😎😎🤝🔥🔥🤘🤘😎 You Got Any Tips On maybe helping me Dialing in on a great like super hi gain tone fat low end tone huge tone im trying to find the one for me. and my style i love the 80s hard rock and like John Sykes Doug Aldrich WS stuff That kinda thing ive been striving for that sound and tone using the little rig and thing i run thru like trying get a hi gain marshall or Mesa Tone something like that for when i rock that kinda songs and style and stuff for me to use. that tone but i just figured id ask you Brother your opinion. btw the amp im using is a little amp its a Line 6 Spider v 30 little amp but i can get marshall tones and mesa tones and customize a lot of stuff so let me know what u recommend for what im looking for. Just a very versatile hi gain tone im looking for but for instance a tone like from still of the night or bad boys kinda searching for a tone like that. scooped mids hi gain thing anyway thank you brother. There's no magic formula but "cut bass/boost mids before gain stages and boost bass/cut mids after gain stages" works pretty well for what you're after
@@LeonTodd it's your band? Never heard it, gonna check it out! I think it reminded me a bit of Kiss from a Rose, but hearing again not that much. Sounds amazing anyway 🙂
Yeah it has the modal interchange thing going on like Kiss from a Rose. Batman Forever came out when i was 7 or 8 so that tonality is etched into my brain! @@LuizFeReis
I'm a IIC++ guy for life! Just some little bit of fairy dust in that particular variant that makes it hit the spot for me. The Mark sound in general always reminds me of Slipknot's Clown hitting a beer keg with his baseball bat. Poof!
What Mark series amp (model or real amp) is your favourite?
IIC++ model for me is metal heaven. Slightly easier to dial in than the standard models too.
Never owned any real amps, but my favorite Mesa in the FM9 USA Lead Mid Gain 🤘

My favourite amp ever. Great crunch and tightness.
I feel like it makes you play better because it's so unforgiving.
I love amps where you can add distorion and yet it's full sounding and you can still hear each note while playing a full chord.@@LeonTodd
Yeah playing a big extended chord that has loads of punch but clarity is one of life's great pleasures!@@cwaniak5
I have a MARK IV combo. It louder then hell . Trying to dial in the right burstbucker/OD/Amp setting for maxium 80's thrash.
So much easier to digest these mini- lessons. Informed and entertained, here in NJ US... Many thanks, Leon! 👍🎸
That's always the goal, glad to know they help!
Love it when you provided comparisons for how to understand tone knobs and faders. That helps my dumb ass A LOT.
Fantastic lesson!!! Thanks so much Leon!
Glad you liked it!
We need a new full-on course on how to master this monster of a unit. And Oh, favorite Mark is of course IV.
I'm getting my fm9 in a few days, so I'm super stocked to continue not understanding all of this for quite some time to come!
Congrats! Enjoy
i love these 5-min tone videos. thanks Leon
More to come!
I have the new Mark VII and the IIC+ on this is the closest I’ve seen from the real deal. Sounds so good!

@@LeonTodd I know this feeling! 😁
Thank you,I had no idea how to dial this amp.I am gonna try this on my Darth Vader Quad Cortex😂
Thank you Leon! Great content.
I just watched the Kirk interview w Rick and he said they record Metallica albums w a 2C+
The Rumble 12S cab is a lot of fun, too. I use it more than the 12L, TBH....
2C+ is always a great stank face amp!
I would have been lost dialing in a Mark series amp type if it weren't for your tutorials. Thanks Leon!

If you put the output EQ to Output instead of pre p.a. this thing becomes a BEAST

Did mesa ever explain why they decided to make the EQ of these amps so un-intuitive? I don't know of any other amp that does this.
