I seem to recall that very early emulation of Crystal couldn't handle choosing the girl sprite, and coming back to the save would have the boy sprite/girl color unintentionally. But it would also mess up some other stuff that somehow made the game unplayable. I wish I could remember now why that was.
Okay, this is pretty neat. But as a point of advice for folks playing on a 3DS type system via Virtual Console: that reset when "SAVING" shows up? You're gonna *HAVE TO* do it through the Virtual Console options to reset, the old GBC method of B+A+Select+Start doesn't seem to work here.

Since it works by messing with the save file, I'm guessing it's permanent
