I think I need some sleep)
As much as I respect The Resistance for being the "big" one that brought hidden roles genre to the spotlight, I'd only play it with non gamers or for first timers. There's a lot of other games that add more roles or element that doesn't sacrifice the speed or design overall.
@@BoardGameBollocks For those wanting shorter and more chaos, One Night Ultimate Werewolf. The swapping of roles adds a little more self doubt and the game only last 10 minutes. Secret Hitler has player abilities (like a straight murder)based on WHEN the Fascist team progresses their objective. This gives a potentially good incentive for liberal players to purposefully regress their overall long term objective to go for an instant win moment. Not exactly the same type of game, but Masquerade's hidden roles only penalize you currency when you lie. This gives players less stress and more incentive to play more aggresively.
Absolutely love this game.
Workmates and I would play this game weekly, and would turn pear shaped real quick when drinks are involved.

Been after The Thing for a while but it’s only available in the US. Gutted.
Base game with expansions or Avalon still rank as my favorite social deduction game.
