Great video. Just picked up my first ever shotgun (870 12ga 26inch) Videos like this may seem so simple and useless but believe me...for someone who isn't entirely confident in doing things involving firearms on your own...these videos are so key. Thank you sir
This was very helpful for when I was trying to figure out the correct orientation of the plug in my browning silver hunter (20). Thanks a million mate!
Late reply, but...you'd have to check your state/local regulations. In GA, shotguns have to be plugged for a 3 shell capacity (magazine+chamber) except for deer, bear, and feral hog shotguns which are limited to 5 shells. The regulations go on to say that the plug must be in 1 piece and incapable of being removed through the loading end of the magazine. Not sure if your area is the same, but i wanted to throw that out as an example.
Just got '1949 Model 31..pre 870. SLightly different. There is a screw pin at top of barrel release. screw out slightly and carefully - that is hole retainer so pin does not bind and also keep spring from flying. Pulls out. Remove stop, clean and put back together. 5 min or less.
yes it is. I just did it based off this video except pushing the spring down removes the little cap which is like the piece he takes out. Then you remove the plug and push the spring back down to put the cap back in place.
@MadBadVoodo is the 870 still reliable after i take out the plug..also my remington just says sportsman magnum pump on it so i dont know if i have an 870 but it looks and works like 1..
Thank you. Just got a Smith & Wesson model 1000. And it didn't have an instruction booklet because I bought it used obviously. I did contact Smith and Wesson and they actually had an instruction booklet that they are sending to me but this is the only real thing that seems to be wrong with it is that I could only get two rounds into it. Thank you for the very informative video
Need a recommendation for The 870 on barrel length. I'm looking to shorten my standard size barrel down to 18.5 for Home Defense. Can't Find One Anywhere Less than $180
@MadBadVoodo yea but the spring is inside the tube and i took it to a gun smith they say that dont know how to was just wondering if you know but it okay ty
Yeah...I'm real new to this and trying to get a lot of information all at once. You know, so I don't seem stupid to my buds. NOT COOL. Thank you for the old school, no bullshit video. I wish I could get all my shotgun info from you. God Bless.
Dude! Great vid! I gotta order one for my 870 express magnum 20 gauge if I wanna dove hunt Indiana this year just stated a TH-cam channel so I'm trying all the stuff I've never done before
Very interesting video (as usual) We are restricted to 3 shot semi-auto's only on a Shotgun Certificate, but can add a multiple shot shotgun to a Firearms licence if we have a good reason. I have two 12 shot Remington 1100's and use them for vermin shooting where I fill them right up. Game shooting such as pheasant, partridge etc, we have to use a double barrel shotgun. And deer cannot be shot in England with a shotgun, only a rifle greater than 0.240 ! Best regards, Richard, London, England.
I learned not to let the spring go flying when you put it in the gun I twisted the cap off and pressed the end piece and sent it flying it took me 3 minutes to find it I had the gun for about 5 minutes
@dctineffect Ohio only allows 3 no matter what the hunting occasion. Thing is I have no idea hoe to plug mine to load only 3. Any ideas? I could technically just make a cylinder that fits over the end right?
can u make a video of how to take apart bolt essembly on this dude rem 870? Id really appreciate it. then let me know so I can take a look at it. thanks mate. thats my request
I wonder, if its legal to take the plug out as long as you don't load more than 3 while hunting. I don't hunt so its not an issue for me, but I was just wondering for others sake.
I guess if I did hunt, I would just have to remember to put the plug back in. I understand the honor aspect, but still kind of silly that its a law. Oh well
badazzmaro it's illegal to hunt without a plug even with just 3 shells in the game warden will take the shells out and ask to see more and then start loading then if it takes more than 3 you get charged 5 bucks for every shell that's around you.
I used a short piece of fiberglass tent pole!!! Slides in/out easily n quickly and is stronger than a wooden dowel!!! N thank you for the video.....it is awesome nn sooo helpful!!!!

Thanks man. Just got an FN with no how-to instructions in the manual. Thumbs up.
@Mrwarner1589 if those ings are rubber they go around the plug abot 2 inches in on each side of the dowel.
Great video…mine is an older Remington 870 (1967) any idea how to remove the plug for that model?
just bought a ithaca Model 37 and appreciate the vid helped me out
yes it is. I just did it based off this video except pushing the spring down removes the little cap which is like the piece he takes out. Then you remove the plug and push the spring back down to put the cap back in place.
What about a regular a-5 browning? Will that method still work?
@MadBadVoodo is the 870 still reliable after i take out the plug..also my remington just says sportsman magnum pump on it so i dont know if i have an 870 but it looks and works like 1..

what a smart way to save money...... U save money.. thanks bro.
Very great video thank you so much, installing a mage tube extended and couldn’t figure this part out!!!
There was a hole in my education. Thank you for plugging it.
Should my shotgun be somewhat difficult to pump when it's clambering a new round and it's a brand new gun?
I just got my gun from Bass Pro, and I didnt get a manual. This made it easy to install. Did it in about 30 secs! :) Thanks!!
Good stuff Mate! There is no such thing as too much ammo capacity.
Exactly what I was wanting to see, thanks for the video. Cheers!
Thank you. This was the first video that worked

hi i have a browning b 80 and it holds 4 bullet and it a 12 gauge auto semi but there no way i can put a plug into it..? reply back plz
hey i have an 870 as well but there is no place to put a screwdriver in it's just flat. how do i get it off? I can't seem to get it....
Wanted to do just this. Appreciate this information, thanks!
To install a new coolest that does not have grooves to get by the detents in the tube, can I remove the detents in order to install the new follower?
I learned not to let the spring go flying when you put it in the gun I twisted the cap off and pressed the end piece and sent it flying it took me 3 minutes to find it I had the gun for about 5 minutes
I had the same thing happen how did you re install the spring back in ?
M Pezzy what I did was I put the plug at the top of the spring and slowly work it down with the plug guiding it down.
Does this technique aplly on the 870 wingmaster too?
acrocanthosaurus4 i
A shotgun is a great self defense weapon but a pump action is really the best....that sound of loading.
Thanks. Easy to follow instructions.
You a god send bro. I'm going shooting tomorrow.
That's why I love mossbergs, just a dowel, you take barrel off, then load up tie shells and the dowel pops right out
the* not tie
Happy New Year!!
I use a dowel in my Remington, cheaper and just as effective as a plug
@dctineffect Ohio only allows 3 no matter what the hunting occasion. Thing is I have no idea hoe to plug mine to load only 3. Any ideas? I could technically just make a cylinder that fits over the end right?
5 rounds allowed for deer hunting?? Depends on what state you are in.
I have a maverick 88 what do you recommend
Its the same way the plug is wood their youtube about it
Cool. Now I know what to do with my shootgun.
Thanks for this video my shotgun has same set up and u answered my question thank u
I checked out your video and you did a great job!
can u make a video of how to take apart bolt essembly on this dude rem 870? Id really appreciate it. then let me know so I can take a look at it. thanks mate. thats my request
I wonder, if its legal to take the plug out as long as you don't load more than 3 while hunting. I don't hunt so its not an issue for me, but I was just wondering for others sake.
badazzmaro its not legal
I guess if I did hunt, I would just have to remember to put the plug back in. I understand the honor aspect, but still kind of silly that its a law. Oh well

badazzmaro they make you have a plug because a shot gun is mostly used for waterfowl hunting and you have to give a bird a chance.
Ethan Harless most game wardens, in my area anyway, have a bar that they just shove down the tube to measure how many shells can go in.
Works the same for my Pardner Pump (870 clone). Thanks for the video.
does this work with a 1100 Remington?
how do you fix the indented ring on the tube i dont have a plug but its crimped
Awesome... Great demonstration. Thanks a lot man!
Looking forward for more good stuff coming from "the hollar (?spelling!)" . . . keep up the great work.
Thanks for the video, now I know how to put the plug back in...Lol
@FabioCrow07770 thats because mossbergs are too cool for fancy green plugs lol
I think you will like it Tony!
Thanks for the video. The exact help I needed.
It's super easy to install/ remove the plug- I can do it with my index finger in 30 seconds thanks !
More Real Life vids comming in about 30 days... :)
Nice job! Thanks, I needed that
I like the 50 round drum 4 home intruders! The cops will need 2 bring a shop vac 2 my house! LOL!!
Helpful, thank you
The Process is the same for my 1930 Remington Model 11, Thank You.
@NerfBoy101 Go 2 the Missouri DNR web site and look up the hunting regs...
Is it the same for a 1187
Pretty much so, just removed the plug from my 11 87.
Hmm I wonder if this will work with my canuk sentry. Except I need to add a plug
@punkghetto1 Yes the make a plug for it.
Did you ever figure it out? See your post is old and I have one from the 50's
This is a gem
Great video. You are talented. Thank you.
that guy is the reason why people don't ask a question, because they're afraid someone will ridicule them, no person automatically knows anything
Advice. If you don’t have a big enough screwdriver use a butter knife worked perfectly
Easy Peasy! Thanks a lot.
Thanks much! I would have never figured it out on my own.
Straight to the point!
Thank you, very helpful

Can you show us how to put a plug in a bretta smie auto
Excellant video MBV have a Happy New Year. 5*
@skatt291 I do not know...

If I ever buy a shotgun with a plug in it, I'll know exactly what to do. Thanks, MadBadVoodoo!
If you just use a shotgun for home defense, does the “plug law” apply? I wouldn’t think so.
No
