For those confused by the Jaskier-Dandelion thing: Jaskier is the Polish name for buttercup, that little bright yellow flower. It's a nickname/stage name, as the full real name of Jaskier is Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhov. @@Thedudec no idea, man. I haven't read the books yet, maybe there's a hint of her origin. Have there been any Irish accents in the show already? I remember only Scottish from the dwarves. But I could be wrong
We got Yennefer’s fanciful backstory thanks to Netflix, now we need one for Julian Alfred Pancratz, Viscount de Lettenhove. Why did he forsake the comforts of a life as a noble for that of a traveling bard? He eventually made a name for himself in the histories of the Continent, but he had no idea how successful he would become when he left home. So why did he take that chance? What drove him away from a sustainable life of opulence to pursue one of unreliable income and potential hardship? The origins of Jaskier/Dandelion is a mystery that I would love to see explored. I think Netflix should have 4 main character narratives, instead of 3. Is that asking too much? Obviously, Joey Batey would do it justice.
I think that would be immensely interesting, but probably would work best as another adaptation; to drastically change Dandelion's role, they'd have to drastically change the story. Yennefer's backstory only made it into the show because she was already a main character. Dandelion's backstory would probably have the best chance if it was adapted by CDPR, the same way Queen Meve's story was turned into Thronebreaker. But I wouldn't be surprised if we learn more about Dandelion through the Netflix show anyway.
Zamira but Dandelion is just as much of a main character as Yennefer is in all the books. I’m assuming you’ve read the books, did we get some of her POV in those? I can’t quite remember, but, except for briefly, maybe, in Season of Storms, it seems like it was predominantly only Geralt and Ciri’s POV throughout. SO! It would not change the overall direction the Netflix narrative is going in if they decided to add Jaskier/Dandelion’s backstory in at the beginning of season 2.
To me, Jaskier is the 2nd most important role in Netflix Witcher. He makes the story much more vivid. He’s a natural flavouring to Gerald’s dull deep character.
Geralt is not dull at all. There is plenty of material in the books to show, Netflix just decided to focus on Yeneffer for some reason. I really hope they draw more from Geralt's beliefs and thoughts as they do so often in the books

They decided to show their friendship from the beginning, assuming Geralt was annoyed by Jaskier at first. I don't like it either, they could've just leave it as it is in the books
I mean Netflix has created character different from the books or movies in a sense. In the show, he's more reserved and says only what's necessary. So him being annoyed at a boastful arrogant bard and trying to push him away fits that character. It makes sense
@@idontreallylikelongnames in the books their friendship is showed from the beggining too, but Geralt liked him and assumed him as a friend. In the show Geralt never does that. Somehow he makes it all sound like a gay fanfic and I'm loving it.
i feel like that's 50% the eye contact on certain lines and 50% just the text as it is lol
Oh come on!! Geralt and Jaskier are just brothers !! I really love the friendship between them both and the loyalty. But I don't see them us gays.... I don't know ... I see them like brothers .... 🤷
@@valerobledo89 Relax it was a joke
@@valerobledo89 We're aware they will never be considered a couple in the story , it's just fun to joke about how close they are, welcome to the internet, everyone makes everything gay it's inevitable x)
Some lines did sound like they came straight from a fanfic
He gave Nenneke a separate accent, which leads me to believe he's one of those narrators would give each character their own separate one. Now, I need a rerecord of the entire series of Joey reading the Witcher.
He's amazing. I love his voice, his pronunciation, the emphasis and the way he changes voice depending on the character. It was so relaxing and charming, and I couldn't stop watching and listening to him
this man has stolen my heart with his beautiful vocal chords, and now his soothing reading. i would die for him.
The shoulders, the mimic and the voice... Where does the line of people wanting to marry Joey end? I'm in.
I haven’t even had time to watch this yet but it’s already my favorite thing on TH-cam
why he's so pretty
I need Jaskier and Geralt to have an honest, wholesome and open conversation like this in the show
” A cute little bottom that it would be a sin not to pinch… so I did” I love how he reads that lol also I love how he reads a 14 minute segment nonstop rather than jumping around like the rest
I love that they let him be Jaskier instead of Dandelion.
But he's not as good in reading The Witcher as Krzysztof Gosztyła. Still love Joey tho.
Don't you dare to cancel this show,
I can't even think about it :(
They wouldn’t dare ;)
It was renewed for a second season before the first one even premiered. Season 2 was in the middle of filming when COVID broke out.
Once all this madness is over we'll get Season 2.
@@filthycasual8187 but they can still change their minds, that's what I don't want, read the books and from what I saw they did a good job and want them to continue
@@JoaoSoares-rs6ec They know the risks of cancelling this show. They won't cancel it. It's too big a hit.
joey doing an Irish accent oooof yes
I wonder why? He is English after all. I think you should go for RP when reading an audio book. Mind you, I do love an Irish accent!
He only did the Irish accent from one character in the beginning
This accent can be heard even when he talks in an interview. When i heard it i was wondering where is he from and who are his parents, but they aren't irish. Weird
@@idontreallylikelongnames he just did it for one of the characters in the book that's all
@@idontreallylikelongnames yeah except for that one part that he was putting on an irish accent, his accent is definitely not irish, it's just his accent from Newcastle. There are like a million different accents in england alone hahah (source: I'm english)
I love the way he plays Dandelion even here so much, such class and ease!
If I remember the books correctly, this is the first chapter when Dandelion is introduced! So cool
I hope they don’t make Jaskier old in season 2 😕 I liked baby faced Jaskier sooo much!
Jaskier is in his 40s though
Fabian Serna Yeah I know but in the books they say Jaskier looking so much younger than his actual age... So I hope they follow this in the series too 😶
@@ryrolove1829 In books they say "He's almost 40, looks like is almost 30, thinks he looks like he is almost 20 and acts like he is almost 10". I think it was Djikstra who said it and it is my favourite quote from the Withcer series xd
I haven't read the books and i know it's a spoiler of sorts but is he 100% human there? I'd love for them to make him sort of, part creature(idk what) in the show... To explain why he doesn't really age much 😛
@@sofiagiannopoulou6562 there is this one part in the book that says that some people were taking him as half-elf!
Poland loves you! ❤
You are perfect Jaskier!
Give this man an award. Or at least an icon for my Netflix account. There are two sword icons, one for a monster, and one for Roach but none for Jaskier? The absolute disrespect
Great voice and even music is quite fitting and not distracting. Would love to hear the whole book in such format with music and some sound effects.
That voice! So amazing! I can listen to his voice the whole day!
THANK YOU JOEY, THANK YOU NETFLIX
this is the lockdown treat we've been waiting for!
i just love joey tries to capture henry's deep voice while he reads geralt's lines
His voice might be the cure for anxiety. Has science seen this yet??
I was sent this video 5 minutes before my online class through Zoom. I'm glad my teacher was late because I wasn't even coherent enough to form full sentences, much less to start web codding. Thank you, Joey. I almost made a fool of myself through Zoom.
reading the physical book while also listening to him reading hits different
I love Joey's tiny impression of Geralt, it's adorable!
Heck yes he's a fan favorite. He's THE fan favorite!
I wanted to write some wise, deep and touching comment but I can't. This guy is too perfect and words are failing me right now.
Jesus God, just what I needed right now. I'disten to practically ANYTHING by Joey though. Cannot imagine a better bedtime story for this troubled soul. Thank You!! What a treat!
I started crying when I saw this. No joke. I think Joey broke me.
Oh, no that's the start of the healing process. Let it collect and flow like the mists on Irish moors.
His Geralt voice sounds like a combo of tv and game Geralt, and I’m not mad about it!
I played the Witcher games first and then got into the books. When I heard that Netflix was going to do an adaptation I was worried but the cast is so lovely! They did particularly well with choosing Joey to represent Jaskier/Dandelion. He’s just exudes so much energy and emotion. I really appreciate him for the way he expresses the character
"They popped their cherries" *balloon pops in the background*
omggg you guys xD I laughed too hard at that.
I love listening to this. What a smooth, caressing voice.
Forget the romance and other characters, I want a spin off of JUST Jaskier and Geralt and their adventures with monster hunting
I LOVE HIS ACCENT AND HIS VOICE AND EVERYTHING
I could listen to Joey speak for hours this is exactly what I needed in quarantine
i keep coming to this because he's my my comfort character ugh i love him so much
it is adorable and funny how TRAGICALY SERIOUS it all sounds when he reads it. ) especially when he reads the geralt's part. Who tragically admits that he can't live in the south because women don't wash there.
I think if the show adopted the lighter approach that the book has it would much better. As you can actually discuss serious matters better when you joke about it
But he still is an incredible jaskier and I'm absolutely in love 😍
I literally had to pause the video to run and grab my book so I could read along
10/10 would recommend
Sure hope this doesn't awaken anything in me
It's too late for me. Turn around now and escape.

Ebony Murray I started watching that around the same time I finished Witcher too :) I know no one asked but I also find the originals entertaining. It tells the story of the original vampires from vampire diaries which was a bit of a teen show.
Haha I am in hell. Run when you still have time.
Too late!
I could listen to him read all day. I love his voice *sobs*
📢 And now, everyone, go and listen to The Amazing Devil, particulary songs Welly Boots, Marbles, The Unwanted Animal, The Horror And The Wild... Well, they're all perfect. Just go and listen to them, after that you'll know why ❤️
Firewall Wanderlust ohhhh.... I just love it soooo sooo much
And "Fair"!! I feel like people don't talk about it enough. It's so beautiful.
@@zaistiel oh, yes. I love "Fair". This whole album is just pure perfection!
Ohhh, The Horror And The Wild is the first song on most of my playlists these days. 💙 It's perfect. But not over processed, or over produced , like most music is, these days. It still had a certain roughness to it, and I absolutely love it. 💜 Feels a lot more real, in a way.
@@valerobledo89 bro! My favorite song, i was crying of wide spectrum of emotions when i first heard it 😍
Hearing him read is honestly so relaxing, I wish he’d do a whole audiobook 😊❤️
Can't help but smile while watching this. Joey is amazing!
I hope we get loads of Jaskier in series 2 and they make him half elf or something so he’s always lovely Joey 🥰
Maybe I'm showing my age, but silver fox Jaskier appeals.
Jaskier/Dandelion is a human bard as far as I'm aware.
Therefore his lifespan is shorter than that, BUT, he does look 10 years younger than he is at all times. And acts at least 30 under his actual age, according to a commenter who read the books.
This brought tears to my eyes at the end there. He's a phenomenal reader I could listen to him all day.
I love Joey’s voice so much I don’t know what it is about it though...it’s so delicate and there’s so much passion behind his words. Also, if you can’t get enough of his voice, please check out his band The Amazing Devil! They’re so good!!!
I know, I... yeah. Joey's voice is beyond mortal kenning.
10:07 The sound effect made me burst into laughter. _God, I'm such a child_
