I had a High End Home Theatre and had an electrical run a dedicated elec. outlet ( hospital grade ) and had a ground outside. It was an older home and I had to do this.

I have a old Peavy Vypire 75 cabinet that i bought brand new and it makes a ground noise with out having a 1/4" cable plugged into it lol! I havent tried fixing this though. I also have a MarkBass amp with teo 10 inch speakers and a horn tweeter in the middle and that one doesn't make any noise like that and it's about 4 years old now. I was thinking it was my electrical at home but i guess not.

High ohm resistor between the ground planes?

So many noise problems begin with poor wiring either at the home or club. Ideally you want everything that has interconnected audio or computer signals to be running off the same circuit from the main electrical panel or they need to be opto isolated (MIDI) or isolated using devices such as discussed here. Each circuit should have a discrete ground, but many poorly wired facilities and homes have shared grounds between circuits which is dangerous - if they have a ground at all. And just because there is the ground "hole" in the receptacle doesn't mean it is tied to anything inside that box. I've had the bejesis shocked out of me holding onto my guitar and just barely touching my lips to a microphone that was tied to a PA amplifier on a separate grounded circuit or a separate circuit with a shared ground. Fortunately, modern equipment has more built-in protection against electrical crossover but there are still problems to be encountered including noise from ceiling fans and the ground loops as discussed here. There are also inexpensive little devices you can plug into outlets that will tell you with LED lights if the receptacle is properly wired or grounded.

What about a signal amp setup that buzzes uncontrollably at high gain? New guitar cables and voodoo power block.
I definitely have old wiring in the house.

Noise gate in the FX loop can be a huge help for high gain noise

High gain means you’re amplifying everything, including the noise floor. Get a gate, maybe 2. Make sure you’re using humbuckers. High gain doesnt work well with single coils. Its doable. But you need a gate

Or just rewire a cord with the ground to tip on one end and keep it handy?

Will it filter out the crazy horse lady's chicken wire electric horse fence that is shorting to ground a mile down the road from me? Didn't think so.

@@TabascoVolta No you're not. The FCC is useless! they won't investigate or fine anyone unless is interfering with a licensed broadcast.

We so much enjoy these "how to" vids and the the ones covering various uses of gear. It's unfortunate that when TH-cam starts blocking us because we use an ad blocker it will bring an end to our following Sweetwater.
