BadseedzOnTop vehicles are designed to show lights before starting so you, the mechanicand (or) the state inspector that the bulb is working and or not removed/bad. it goes away after starting the engine assuming there are no problems related to emissions, or severe engine damage. if the light shows up before you start the engine, you know the bulb and circuit is good. if it goes away then you have no confirmed codes stored in the computer. you may have a pending code or two. but will not cause the light to illuminate until confirmed
Thank you for the tips. I have been working on my own vehicle now for a year. I did exactly what you showed in the video. I fixed my truck and rode around for some 75 miles and the check engine light would not go off. I disconnected my battery for 1 minute connected it back and the light went off. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! Your the best!!!!!
Went to my mechanic for Inspection after reading code. Reset it like you did with the negative wire to pos. Worked beautifully ! No problems. Inspection went smooth. Thanks so much. You are #1 !
Thanks so very much for sharing this video. I am 65 years, five months and 22 days. I enjoy learning how to learn about vehicles. It allows me to put focus on whatever I own and operate. Smiles
Thanks for the great video, ive normally paid £30 a time for auto electrical engineer to come out & sort the light out x3, i never realized how simple it was but then again, the electrical engineer would not be about to tell you that, they just want your money even though he was done & gone within 5 minutes. Mechanic also checked & told me its only indicating a minor issue & no big deal, hence another £35, so i am going to give this a go the next time as it come on which is only now & again... 3 times a year. Greatly appreciated!!!
I'm so grateful for this video. Haven't tried it yet, but I've had this problem for 3 years, getting a vague code (440 I think) that mechanics can't pinpoint but charged me a fortune trying different fixes. I was on the point of buying a new car I couldn't afford because this one failed inspection and I didn't think the mechanic (different from the inspection shop)who reset it would do it again. If the battery trick doesn't work, will get the diagnostic tool as I saw the mechanic use it to reset codes. I'm so grateful for this info.
Thanx for the vid. I tried it and...TADA, it worked. Pretty sure it came on due to a bad muffler that was replaced not too long ago. Tech didn't reset it after replacing it. You saved me from having to go back to a mechanic to get it cleared.
Here, mechanics (dealerships/shop owners) will vandalize your car, never saw that before! So, have a private mechanic working on my car, the videos really help!
Thank you Tampatec 👏 I've had two different dealership's try and hit me with that diagnostics crap after I told them my battery had faulted. Replaced my battery and all light's are off and Radio is no longer Locked!! Your a freakin life saver 🤗
Thanks a million for this video. I have a 2008 smart car and the repair manual cant be found in any parts house..however for the cost of an air flow sensor that is easy to find I may just take a chance and replace it..great job on this video...
Did it again today, all o.k. now...been twice to Ford, first time ripped me $150/- for Diagnostic Testing...today again wanted $150/- for the same Fuel Tank Purge Valve recall...nothing has been changed since 2011 on my Gas/Petrol Tank respect to the Recall!!!!
Wow cool dude I can work on my 68 Camaro RS/SS with no problem but these vids you make make this new crap so much easier with no hugely expensive computers to buy. tahnks
outstanding! the check engine light on my wife's ford escape lit up on her. before bringing it to the dealer i thought of doing the disconnect procedure & got it off. btw its a company car so its well maintained. thanks papi!
Mine went out after taking off my battery terminal and by waiting five minutes. I appreciate the information. The last time the engine light came on it went off after using premium gas from; Shell, Chevron and Exxon and by driving around a day.
Thanks for the info. My wife had refuelled on a trip to town and the check light came on. I watched your video and sure enough the petrol cap (UK) was not secure and loose! re-secured and reset light by battery disconnect. All good, cheers!
How do you figure that's a Cold Air Intake? The stock air cleaner drew air from the outside of the engine compartment. The way I see these things set up is they draw Warm/HOT air from Within the engine compartment. One might get better performance from a more efficient filter just like we used to flip the air cleaner cover on our carbureted Chevys but we sure as hell wouldn't have called it a Cold Air Intake :/
My 2013 Jeep Wrangler had the GASCAP error light come on...After cleaning O-ring, and tank lip as you said. The GASCAP error went away but only after driving home from work next day......and a day later the O2 sensor quit staying on....Was worried there a bit but cooler heads persevere I guess...Thanx dood.
Hey , so my check engine light popped on yesterday, went to auto zone and the codes said I needed this part and I bought it went n got it fixed , from someone who isn’t like a real shop he knows how to work on cars tho , he fixed the problem the codes were saying, he did that one thing to make the check engine light go away but when I was driving to get money it popped back on!!
UPDATE AS OF FEB 2018, Autozone does NOT reset the code... They'll tell you the code meaning, but the service engine light/check engine light will still be on
it was brilliant thank you so much i wish more mechanic was like you bro always watch your youtube videos from now on keep up the good work and telling use no heads how its done and keeping us informed when we are stuck, thanks bro your the best i am your fan. i will be watching your videos. nice one.
nice the jumper cables from the neg to the positive reset the check engine light..still gotta drive it for 30 minutes..see if it comes back and do the obd2 scan again
Hi there, I have a dodge stratus 2006 model just wanted to know if there are different devices for dodge cars or if all these devices are standard for any car?
Thank you so much . My check engine light came on after I had some work done on the 1999 S 70 Volvo Gas door that was not opening. The Mechanic shop could get the part to make it work electronically so he tide a zipper in the truck to open the gas tank so I can open the gas door to get Gas to fill up . The Mechanic shop said the tester code did not say any thing wrong, but the light is still on and it is safe to drive . Your video explain what to do and how to read the code and look for the issue. I will check with Auto zone tomorrow. I Thank so much
Gave me a pretty good idea of whats going on in my car. I have nissan maxima 03 with the following codes, P1614 & P1456, the last code is basically the same issue you showed in your video, its got to do with the EVAP leak, fuel cap, etc. and the first one has to do with some problem reading the signal of my key, Now let me just give you a reference, I have a key installed under the steering wheel ( for remote starter purposes )
+drumskas... P1614=is an Immobilizer chip key code... Key on or engine cranking, system voltage over 10.5v, and the PCM detected a problem in the Nissan Antitheft System (NATS). P1456= is an EVAP system leak (Very Small Leak) .020" leak
Hi, today a warning light turned on on my '02 Fiat Marea 1.9 Diesel. I think it's an fuel injection fault, since the warning light looks like an injector, so I'm wondering if this scanner can read fault codes for fuel injection circuits or not? I found a scanner on eBay for 10$, so can you please tell me if it will show the fault code or should I buy a more expensive scanner? Thanks
Not too bad of a vid but I suggest you upgrade your tools as in the comment I left below. I've been working on vehicle for 20+ years and to say things have become more complex is an understatement. I have an example, and it is my own nightmare. I lent out my MD75 to a friend a while back who went out of town for a month and had an issue with my car. Using my neighbors scanner, similar to yours, I retrieved the codes. It went from one to another to another. All in all I spent over $800 just to find out it is a weak fuel pump which will cost ANOTHER $185. I replaced the MAP sensor ($45) , Knock sensor ($65), Crank sensor ($60) , IAC solenoid ($68), MAF sensor ($139), Cam sensor ($129), Catalytic convertor assy ($280) plugs and wires ($70) along with getting the injectors cleaned and flow checked ($80). If I had the MD75, it would have shown the issue right away thru a poor injector pulse pattern due to low/intermittent pressure.
Thanks for video, just wondering what you pay for the diagnostic tool. Do you have a link to purchase one? 2005 ford escape giving me a lot of grief. $$$$
Do i connect the negative terminal(not connected to batery) to the positive thats it connected to the battery....or do both have tobe disconnected from battery
That’s how he showed it I’ve tried disconnecting both and every other trick on TH-cam and my check engine light remains I’m scared the computer will fry if you leave positive connected to Battery and jump it to neg wire
What are the risks of a 2003 Ford Taurus SES needing a radio code after removing the negative lead from the battery? I have no clue if mine will require a code in order to work again but I really want to clear out an old mass air flow sensor code which has signaled the engine light. (Have since replaced the sensor)
Is it not supposed to go out on its own after getting a repair and fixing the problem? I heard it should go off on its own without resetting it if the problem was fixed, after driving for a while, it goes out, or do you always need to reset it??
That battery cable method worked on my 2011 Ford Flex. It removed the search engine light. I only had battery cables as connectors instead of the small jumper in the video.
thanks a bunch! I unplugged the negative cable for 10 mins n did the trick on my Celica. I hoping the sensors are just too sensitive or it'll be back in a few miles. but thanks 😀
+Tampatec since '07 its universal, obd. 'vag' uses diff protocoling (vw/audi etc.). unplug battery, both poles and try connecting +/- wiring, hold-down for a min orso, make sure battery is in-total disconnected .....!!!
ok I have a 2005 infinity g35 and removed the catalytic converters and installed test pipes , I'm getting the code p1283, and it causing my service engine soon light to come on . I have installed spacers between the 02 sensors and the test pipes to pull the sensor out of the exhaust airflow stream . I have disconnected the battery 2-3 times now and the check engine light keeps coming back on , what can I do to get the light to stay out and still use the test pipes?
The most important part of this video is the ring on this gentleman's hand. When he gets the ring between the positive connection on the battery, or ANY positive connection AND any other part of the grounded car (negative connection), here's what's going to happen in slow motion. The ring will conduct unfused current at as many amps as the battery can produce, through the ring. The ring will be arc welded to the connecting point(s) and INSTANTLY become red hot. A brilliant flash of light will startle the shade tree mechanic and he will jerk his hand away before there is even time for the situation to register in his brain. He will leave the ring and his ring finger cooking in the engine compartment. Don't wear a ring when working in the engine compartment of a car. Any other mistakes in this video are forgiveable.
hey tampatec! what if I place my scanner after reseting the engine light. is it gonna find that something is actually wrong? im buying a mazda 3 tomorrow and I have my scanner. but im afraid the seller reset the engine light and my scanner wont find anything. I have a innova 3040c car scanner
This happened to my car the engine light thing so annoying, I've tried everything from washing my car, waxing it, putting brand new wiper blades, putting extra air on all tires to be on safe side... I even filled up my gas tank all the way full and nothing! what do you think it can be? anything will help! thanks!
i would like to ask if what would be the best solution for my car. i have it scanned and the scanner said that i was a internal circuit failure. would that affect my car? thanks.
yea, it worked for my 2008 honda civic. What i did is put the key in the ignition, turn the car in position to crank, popped the hood, disconnected the neg terminal for 5 min, then reconnected it. Cranked the car and the light went toff but before hand one switch for oil pressure senor P0523 was loose, then reconnect and all done thank you @tampaTec so much saved me some cash!!!
I bought a 2006 vw and a week later the engine management light came on. Took it to the garage and it was the catalyst system (exhaust). My question if the previous owner had known about this issue and turned the light off, how quickly does the light come back on? Cheers,
+M.A Mashabane Depends on the sensor that is triggering the code could come as soon as 5 miles (misfire) or as long as 50 miles (emissions). Most state air quality check stations (DEQ, SMOG check, etc,) allow only the evap system to not be in a ready state to pass. So you can turn that check engine light off all you want but when the smog tech plugs into the cars computer he will see that it has been reset and tell you you need to drive it some more miles until all the systems have reported to the computer.
The scanner will work on some 1995 and on all 1996 and newer vehicles not 2000 and newer also some AutoZone will reset the light a lot will not as you are not supposed to reset that light unless the repairs have been made in the end it's all up to the autozoner helping you out
Hey, check out Schrodingers box Lean condition. Not all check engine codes are set by a O2 sensor. If the code says O2 it almost always say lean/rich condition. Usually from a vacuum leak, wiring problem to a sensor( MAP,MAF,IAC,Fuel Injectors, etc) or a bad sensor or something that will cause a lean or rich condition. Not trying to shut you down or anything. I like your videos but just want to give you some resources that you mite have been unaware of. Check out ScannerDanner too.

when I start the car its not showing but I had the key in the ignition and it was showing. did I do it right?
the igition switch has 1,2,3,4 correct? when its on 3 the light is showing but when I start it its off. my gas cap is good
Doesn't work if you need an inspection sticker. I know for a fact.

Hi Tampatec - Is the diagnosis test code reader reads 2012 VW manual beetle? Thanks for your good work.
Well I'll be, it worked ! Have yet to drive any distance but got my hopes up .
Simple and to the point, ,,,,,,,thanks great vid
I have vw passat 3.6 2006. I just have a question. Connecting the negative to the positive won't do any do any harm for engine or the car? Thanks

Man I`m following your steps, I was following you on TV repairs and now the same in electronic cars issues
Thank you so much for the thorough explanation!

Hello Sir , if broken CATALYTIC and do you just reset without changing CATALYTIC ?
thank you i will go to auto zone today to do this because my check engine light came on today 2005 Camry once again thank you > wish me luck !
Many thanks bro. I learned from you. god bless you!
wonderful information... thanks a lot....:)

i would like to ask if what would be the best solution for my car. i have it scanned and the scanner said that i was a internal circuit failure. would that affect my car? thanks.
if your car is in warranty take it to the dealer or mech. few times reset may work but get a full diagnosis is best.
Thank you for sharing

Thanks for great info
The scanner will work on some 1995 and on all 1996 and newer vehicles not 2000 and newer also some AutoZone will reset the light a lot will not as you are not supposed to reset that light unless the repairs have been made in the end it's all up to the autozoner helping you out
thanks for the info

i have my own scanner.
Then you can clear your own code or codes after the repair as now days not autozone nor oreilly (formerly checkers) will delete the codes.
This is cool. U should do more about car stuff :)
thanks, maybe more car tech stuff but I will leave mech stuff to the experts.
Awesome man thanks!
