My budget could accommodate the prices of full frame glasses if needed. Mostly videos, some pictures if needed. Would you go with a7siii or fx30?
I prefer the full frame sensor. Personally I switched to the A9III but if I wasn't shooting on this camera I'd probably go back to the A7SIII. Also look at the ZV-E1 which has the same senor as the A7SIII & FX3 but in a cheaper body. Only downside is that it does overheat if you do long takes at 4k60 and 4k120 but I've used it for multiple docs and it works great. Check out this BTS using it: th-cam.com/video/D3DGXDAfHdo/w-d-xo.html
In my experience AWB almost always leaves me with some casting on an a6500. I’ve now moved to just taking the extra moment to set the white balance using the set tool. I do this by pre dialing in my ND and then do a white balance set. (With memory modes though this is more complicated) then I’ll do a quick shot of my color checker as a baseline for grading and call it good. All in all it’s less than 5 min worth the work to get a better result than AWB. Now if lighting changes a ton I might do it again but for my uses I don’t have that problem often
Ive not seen the bungees before but have been using the magnetic ones to good effect for 8+ years on those early compacts and mirrorless bodies. They dont butt up snuggly like this one.
Sony is calling this a cinema camera. But it does not have built in ND……. For out door I must have viewfinder. If you add cheap hood how do you use touch lcd to make changes? For indoor events it looks like a great camera at that price point.
@@JevenDovey they always complain about "ND" but the question is do u think they are willing to pay more if they make compact cinema camera built in ND hahaha
It's not a problem to not have an evf on a cinema camera it's just a problem for your usage. And I definitely understand that just preface it that it's a solve everything for uses but it I'll be for others.
Well, for the viewfinder lack problem of the fx3 in my case I using a monitor with 2500 nits in outdoor and problem solved but thd fx3 without variable nd filter is something annoying, I use Peter McKinnon ND filters but is not same, the colors and banding is definitely showing in the footages by fault for the ND filters front in the lens 🙄 I love my variable internal nd filter of my fx6 and fs7 is another thing has the ND behind the lens. Great video master.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to just get the a7siii if want the viewfinder? It’s build in and you don’t have to take that big old plastic viewfinder with you. You probably get all kinds ok color shifts with that thing.
@@WEHAVETHISDREAM I’m talking about the viewfinder. Does the fx30 have a viewfinder? And why would you compare the fx30 with the a7siii? They are different sensorsizes. You would compare it with the fx3.
@@The_Daliban Your question was: "Wouldn’t it make more sense to just get the a7siii if want the viewfinder?"... Answer... you are talking DIFFERENT LEAGUES of cameras... Only league being: PRICE. You can not compar the a7s iii with the FX 30. Duuuh... Exactly my point! You either compare it to the FX 3 or don't. Cheers.
It's like we're back in the 5DII/7D days, with people working around the optical viewfinder not working for video. Except now we have had all the needed technology (mirrorless design with an EVF) for years, and Sony has just purposely left it out of the camera. This is why the FX3 has never seemed worth it to me over the A7sIII- for the same money you can get the A7sIII + the hotshoe XLR brick, and you end up with the same capabilities WITH an EVF and a real mechanical shutter for photos. It'll be interesting to see how Sony handicaps the FX30's "hybrid" sibling (A7000?) to try to protect the "real" cinema cams. The A7sIII's only limitation for photography is its low pixel count, while the FX30 sensor is a perfectly fine 26MP. If Sony isn't careful to handicap the A7000 somehow, it could outshine the A74 and even the A1 in some ways, as a hybrid (ignoring sensor size of course).
Oh, and as for the loupe- a much better option than the strap mount would be one of the LCDVF clones, which have a thin metal frame that mounts to the screen and then the loupe simply magnets on to that. No messing with straps, and you can use it with the screen flipped out to give yourself a tilting EVF. I did this on my 60D back in the day and it worked fairly well.
well said, "same as the FX3, just with different sensor". it's a 26mp stills optimized sensor with slow readout, 1.04x cropped 4K put in cine package for $1800. considering the a6600 is $1400, the forthcoming a7000? could go for $1600-1800 and get a real EVF and mechanical shutter. then again sony might handicap it by limiting it to 4k30p so many people are fooled by the "cine" packaging, maybe sony can put a 1 inch sensor in that bulky fx3 body call it FX300, and people will still rave how it's a game changer.
@@DjimmyTrovy I'm just being realistic about the product planning Sony seems to be implementing. They've had all the pieces needed to give us an uncompromised hybrid camera (at least uncompromised within the boundaries of a photo-camera form factor, aka no NDs) for years now, and yet they still never give the whole package. They are checking off each user case except the one that will be the most useful to the largest number of people, because once people have that, they won't need to keep chasing a new camera model every year.
Ok Jeven, I purchased the viewfinder and NO it will not work unless you modify the straps, if you advertise for this viewfinder please let people know that the straps will have to be longer and you have to modify them. The straps that come with this viewfinder are way to strong and short to go around the FX3 and FX30
I can never understand professional videographers constantly looking at the screen of the camera that's filming them, even when they are just standing still in front of the camera. I find it quite annoying. Especially on this particular topic where they say they can't see the screen when it's bright and sunny.
good luck with touch tracking when using this, better use a phone with a bright screen and the new Monitor & Control app (you can even use it connected via usb-c without lag)
dont waste your time the bungy straps he advertises are not the ones that come with this viewfinder. I returned mine as it will not work with the sony fx3 or fx30

I am someone who’s constantly on the road travelling and want to shot videos during my outdoor adventures and travel. I don’t have any gear yet but will buy all the necessary pretty soon.
For color shift/cast in ND filters I wonder if auto white balance would help.
Cinema does not mean built in ND. This camera is geared towards video shooters so thats why its part of the cinema line.
@@JevenDovey they always complain about "ND" but the question is do u think they are willing to pay more if they make compact cinema camera built in ND hahaha
Nice to have it SONY FX3 soon, very cool.
I use the zacuto z-finder for my Nikons. It’s much more secure than the loops.
They have camcoders for your needs.
Sensors are too small on camcorders.
@@JevenDovey Drones even have samller sensors, buy you dont complaint...Ask your boyfriend
thanks bro- always a saver
Kippertie do a very nice variable ND (Revolva). Expensive and only for cine lenses with PL mounts
So what's the solution to ND problems ?
I explained 2 of them.
Convoluted…
Wouldn’t it make more sense to just get the a7siii if want the viewfinder?
It’s build in and you don’t have to take that big old plastic viewfinder with you. You probably get all kinds ok color shifts with that thing.
Sure…
You do understand why most of us are looking to buy the FX30 and not the a7s iii / fx3, right?
Cheers.
@@WEHAVETHISDREAM it’s literally in the title of the video my dude, why are you being so smug?
I never compared the fx30 to the a7siii, they did.
I think they could put an ND filter in the fx3/30 as my rx100 has it and that has a tiny body. May have to sacrifice ibis, but might be worth it.
To skip to the biggest problem go to 8:46.
I don't see why Sony doesn't make an external EVF that plugs into the HDMI port. That is what Sigma did with the Sigma FP.
I did this on my 60D back in the day and it worked fairly well.
well said, "same as the FX3, just with different sensor". it's a 26mp stills optimized sensor with slow readout, 1.04x cropped 4K put in cine package for $1800.
considering the a6600 is $1400, the forthcoming a7000? could go for $1600-1800 and get a real EVF and mechanical shutter. then again sony might handicap it by limiting it to 4k30p
so many people are fooled by the "cine" packaging, maybe sony can put a 1 inch sensor in that bulky fx3 body call it FX300, and people will still rave how it's a game changer.
Been looking for a magnet one to test. I do like the bungees because if I'm shooting an adventure project its going to stay on when I bump it.
Why so negative? Sony are doing awesome stuff now. Almost no reason to complain, no?
Maybe the straps were changed. It came with 2 sets of straps and one fit perfectly on my camera
I couldn't find the EVF( Straped one) on amazon link. Would you send me the exact link?
3:40 to start talking about it...
I loved the part where you showed what it looks like when viewing it.
I can never understand professional videographers constantly looking at the screen of the camera that's filming them, even when they are just standing still in front of the camera. I find it quite annoying. Especially on this particular topic where they say they can't see the screen when it's bright and sunny.
When there’s nobody behind camera you need to see if you’re in frame. Can’t see exposure In bright sunlight but you can still see positioning.
So how to fix ND issue?
Use a variable nd filter
it reminds my trusty loupe..checking chrome slides on lightbox..
good luck with touch tracking when using this, better use a phone with a bright screen and the new Monitor & Control app (you can even use it connected via usb-c without lag)
i knew about view finder long time ago but its good you pointed it out
Good high level review - thanks. Interesting idea about using a loup but as a wildlife shooter I'd need something like the Kameleon on this camera.
Sony should make an S1H/S5 with great autofocus. The fx30 should be the GH6 with AF
I m watching this video with the hope that may be after 1-2 years, i will be able buy it..😂
Kamerar CVF-1 is out of stock everywhere
Nice man 🤝😎
Great find on the viewfinder! Will pick one up. I also use a screen hood from smallrig to keep the sun out. Easy to put on and off as well.
Yeah I have one of those as well. I think both will be useful
Hey there, what is model/ name of viewfinder? Thanks!
dont waste your time the bungy straps he advertises are not the ones that come with this viewfinder. I returned mine as it will not work with the sony fx3 or fx30
Be careful with the loupe and the sun. It can burn your screen.
I found the FX30 almost unusable in direct sunlight. Couldn't see a damn thing. Major issue.
