Please bring back more edit videos. These combined with tutorials are the reason I subbed to begin with. Really enjoyed this one.
Seconded!
Thirded
Hey Peter as a lab operator I have to say processing C41 at home isn’t that difficult and black and white is even easier to do so definitely give it a try, you might learn a lot! Also you can try “scanning” you’re own film with your R5, got one customer who doesn’t use our lab scanner anymore but instead uses his Hassleblad for it. Definitely give it a try, looking forward to the book at the end of the journey. ✌️
I love how you're always striving, always learning, always growing. It's contagious!
I love that you did a tutorial where you're showing how subtle you've kept adjustments! It's refreshing vs the really in-depth and dramatic before and afters we can see so much of on TH-cam these days!
Absolutely love this. Love seeing the film work you’re putting out, love your take on it, can’t wait for more!
thx pete, such beautiful places you've shown us. The medium format is wicked!
Hey there. I’m diving back into photography after almost 20 years of putting my camera down to raise a family. The kids are now old enough that I have decided to pick it back up. And may I just say thank you. Your videos have helped me so much. Photography has made big advances since I first started learning. I have been able to walk right into this with almost little to no difficulty thanks to you. I also subscribed to Benjamin Hardman channel as well and between the two of you I feel like there is nothing I can’t learn or figure out. So again thank you so much for your content.
I love how your edit used to be a little bit over the top and how it's become so subtle. Love seeing your journey!
It's really cool to see your process and hear your approach to both shooting and editing film. That coffee table book is going to be killer!
I love that you came to the southwest, and now have some inspiration pieces in your workspace. ❤ thank you for visiting our beautiful home.
Excellent video! I love the lil nod to the old tutorial days. I'm always so blown away by how well film retains highlights. I've been shooting way more film in the past year and every time I get the scans back I fall in love all over again.
Always want more of this content Pete! Huge fan! Always!
The quality and lighting of that video are on another level!!
Love watching you edit Peter, always something to learn!
I love the subtle approach!!
Pete, I hope one day to be able to produce photos with the same emotion and and impact as yours. You are really an inspiration !
I just started shooting film with a 1994 Canon x Marlboro Owl and man its been so amazing seeing how my shots have been turning out. Its a really enjoyable process even with a basic point and shoot film camera. My local camera store has film and handles processing and each time I learn more and more. This was awesome to see. I appreciate you sharing!
Great work Mr McKinnon, Its always nice learning from your craft.
I have watched your videos for years now. Even though the energy and content you bring is absolutely next level, I have always felt a bit of a resentment towards how you edit. Very happy that you have come to this point with your style.
This shows exactly the biggest thing I love about film - the baseline is so good that editing is super easy.
Спасибо спасибо спасибо дорогой Пете, это видео то что мне было нужно, ты и твоя банда лучшие🧡
What an inspiring video YET again. Thank you Peter. Your soul soothes mine. ❤
Absolutely man! Love tutorial vids like this
Hey Peter, so interesting that you mentioned the darkroom. Now that it's winter I am spending some time in mine, doing B&W prints, and I can tell you this is something you shouldn't miss. Working mostly in the darkness, in that dim red light, you can feel how obsession for images grows inside yourself. Doing test strip after test strip, print after print, in such a slow and limited process, it all can feel like a transcendental experience, in my humble opinion.
Because I have and still shoot film. Unless the picture asks for a particular heavy edit. 95% of the time, I edit (if needed), just like you just did. Whether it’s film or digital. Then again. I learned to do most everything before you shoot. Makes a difference. So happy to see you embracing it all. 😊
Looking at films capturing so much range is just amazing and how such minute edits can bring a photo to life.
Love the look of all the film shots!
This has been the video has actually made me super pumped to shoot in film. Before this I thought it would just be a bit too much effort but after seeing the results I'm gonna get into it!
I love these editing tutorials! Definitely would love to see more shooting and editing tips, as well as camera and lens explanations, your preferences, and why. Thanks for all your content though! Always appreciated and well done!
Gorgeous shots. My favorite type of videos by you 🤌
Hey Pete! Could you, for fun sake, do a paralel shoot with film vs digital? And how you'd edit the different photos? And, maybe a cool idea, get you macro buddy to "repro" your film for you, so you can get deeper in on that grain. Go abstract!
I was silently hoping to see a Dessert shot with a Huge Mountain!!!!
Who remembers the good old PM days of edit my photos??
so stoked for this book!
This gave me 2018/2019 vibes when I started photography and watching Peter Mckinnon
Agreed, I've kinda lost interest in his content the past couple of years, but it was content like this that made me get a camera in the first place.
That sounds great, how long have you been studying photography?
This is exactly the video I was hoping you would put out. It is very refreshing to see such minimal post processing and keeping it true to film.
For sure more on film and your process, much love from the UK ❤
LOVE THIS CONTENT
Love it all dude. Thanks for uploading today. Hopefully you dudes can rest and chill this weekend.
Love this style of content you can feel the natural enthusiasm coming through
Beautiful video, really pleased seeing it
Processing your own film and printing that film in a dark room is so much fun! 100% Reccommend doing it, also alternative printing processes are an amazing experience if you can do it, turning Black and White photos into giant negatives and sunprinting is an experience like no other.
Been loving the film content! Would love to see a video on your take of what film cameras to look for and breaking down the different formats and differences in film choices. Your film photos have looked incredible though!
love to see more of this stuff
Super insightful - thank you
yhes!! I love shooting film, its a bit expensive for me sometimes but there is so much more warmth in the photo, I love to see you shoot and talk about film photography
I haven’t been watching your stuff recently, but the year in film concept is very fun. I look forward to the next update. In particular, I’d like to hear more about your work with medium format.
Glad you are in our world again with film . I don't know why I don't use the total curve on my color shots but I use it on the black and white shots. I think I'm going to try doing that on the next set of color negatives I edit
So cool to see Peter shooting in my backyard. I was out at Peyto Lake just a few weeks ago. So neat to see how he views/edits the scenes I regularly hang out and shoot at.
Love these! Would totally enjoy more 🫡🔥
Excellent , Amazing Photos and Editing
I really like your tutorial stuff man!
Cannot wait to see more of your monument valley photos
love seeing that the editing is a minimal process when it comes to film photography (which has in turn made you a more intentional photographer). would love to get my hands on film some time and try this out myself!
absolutely love the videos man. can't wait to purchase a photo book!!!
like the detailed inf. Keep it coming.
loved it
Looks great, Pete.
Ive been uploading my film photography shot over the years! And honestly its been so refreshing touching them up ever so slightly. LESS IS MORE with film! Anywho love you Peter!
Great video Peter .. so helpful thanks , yes please more videos like this
Great video as always, Peter. Would love to see your thoughts on the type of film you choose to use depending on where you're going to shoot. Maybe even compare some photos on the correct film vs. the "incorrect" film.
Inspiring Peter! Remember shooting 4x5 transparencies & colour neg out there in the 80's and later on, some Fuji 617 pano images as well. Good times.
Good luck with your project and your book!
Happy New Year!
These are my favourite kind of your vids
More tutorials like this please
I find your film project fascinating, and really enjoyed your editing process with film. You have me somewhat interested experimenting with film again. Great video, thanks for sharing.
This is interesting, but I just wanna say, back in the day, I spent WAY more time working on prints in the darkroom than I do now in photoshop. It’s kind of amusing to hear an “aesthetic” for film with almost no post editing. Glad you’re enjoying film!
Your journey into film has really tempted me to get into it as well. I would just have no clue where to start. Maybe your next video on film photography could be what you'd recommend for someone who's wanting to start off on a budget, and what you'd recommend and why. I'd love to know your thoughts on that.
I just started and got a couple cameras from a thrift store for just a few dollars and they seem to be working great so I’d recommend to start with that. Then watch TH-cam videos to figure out what film stock you want and order some.
I inherited my grandfather's AE1 program many years ago. Due to film being so daunting I kept it safe in a box in a closet for years. I was looking for some spare batteries for my main camera to take easter photos and I found 2 rolls of film. I grabbed them and the camera and shot both rolls. I just received the prints from walgreens (yes I know...) I am very proud of the photos. These were the first photos this camera has shot for decades.
We want more tutorials like this✨✨✨✨✨
Loved this and you should do more!
Keep doing what you doing Peter.
Great job, do you like it?
this....i miss this....I learned a lot from you! from photoshop to lightroom to premiere...thanks a lot. More pls. take care always.
Loved this video, thank you! I will definitely be trying some of this in my editing, and this video is making me want to buy some film for my Minolta XD11 that I haven't touched in a few years!
Ooooo, can't wait for that book to come out.
Thought provoking 👍
Sending Aloha from Kauai Hawaii
Love it!
long time, it was so many to edit and now simple edit.
Love those greens on medium format.
amazing guy, amazing work, amazing expression through art!
I am thankful and appreciate your videos and your wisdom. I agree with everything you said.
Happy thanksgiving Peter!
The question I've been thinking all the time but never tried to find out.
I really look forward to the day you make videos using film ! Amazing !
Fantastic! Makes me really want to start shooting film. Like the years of digital were a warmup to get ready for film.
WHEN ARE WE GOING TO HAVE THE NEW STUDIO TOUR?!!!!!!!
Great video Pete! :)
Great photos Peter. Nice to see you in some other environment. Happy to see new studio tour 😉
So cool
Love this so much Pete! I would love to see another vlog and maybe a “what’s in your pockets” updated video
One challenge I run into with post processing is that depending on if I use my main PC, my laptop or my phone, the image often looks different. My best results often come from editing on my PC and then moving that edit to my phone to finalize it. Otherwise an image that looks great on my PC monitor ends up looking too dark / underexposed on my phone.
Love that you made this 💪 inspiring me to do less editing as well! I know digital is different but hey, inspiration is the same
we want more tutorial pete ..just loved it
Thanks!
I just realized how much I miss your studio tours.
❤🌚 awesome man
Thanks for inspiring us peteeee... ❤
As always, great stuff! Would love to know the story behind the Taos Pueblo looking ladder and items hanging from each rung. Nice vibe!
Such a fun few days dude!
Minimal edits I like it, you da man Pete
Mr. Peter, sir. I would love to see an updated tutorial on your video editing style. The music, the transitions, how you plan out your dialogue to keep it engaging, etc. Im an editor for three channels (one is ours, and im a hired editor for two others) and I watch your videos closely for your editing techniques as well as enjoying your content.
Something about your style has changed recently and I totally dig it. I’ve loosely followed you for years but lately I’m chomping at the bit for the next video.
For instance, your 800 days of field notes video completely captivated me and I’ve watched it multiple times. It’s great. Anyway, just a walkthrough of your current workflow would be awesome.
wow what a good vid. just felt like a good hang. i just got back into shooting film and have been wondering about people edit their film scans
These shots are gorgeous man! The one of the guy shooting a photo and the last one you cooled down and added magenta were my favorites!
