    Do you use tyre inserts on your mountain bike? Were they as easy to install as these?

    I always add another step at the end: realize I mounted the tire backwards even though I checked it at the beginning, then chuck the whole thing and say sod it.

    Fitted at the weekend a Vittoria light xc insert to my Atherton 130 rear wheel; Stan’s Arch MK4 rim and Wicked Will tyre (bike is set up for Forest xc/light trail type riding) fitting was straightforward.
    Excellent feel on the trails, smooth and supportive ride, I normally run the rear wheel at 21psi with the insert I reduced it to 19psi…..all perfect

    Ran rimpact for about a year, there's pros and cons to everything, but overall I like them. The hardest part for me was getting the tire off the rim. I basically have to stand and jump on the sidewall or use a soft jaw wood clamp with a chunk of dowel rod to push the bead off.

    I prefer to install tire & seat bead then deflate and add sealant with a syringe. Simple, cleaner & most efficient in regards to product used. In 6 years I’ve never had an issue with sealant flowing all around the insert.

    Owen, you have now qualified for the next level: Getting tire inserts on and off on a road bike. I find that MUCH more difficult than on the MTB.

    I have use Huck Norris. Easy to install and have use them one day getting a flat on a downhill trail and road it out back to the campground. Also use a syringe to reinsert the fluid back into the tire with the valve stam

    I use my own high density foam and cut it to spec. Tbh it's the only that works well in DT spline rims they never sit right in most ~30mm inner width rims...

    I’ve done a lot of tubeless. I’ve managed to fully seat a tire with a track pump exactly once. Fortunately I have a shop compressor. 😊

    You should also check the valve stem interface with the tape and rim. This is a common place for air to leak. Some valve stems align better with some rims, it’s good to have a selection. I personally have made and use silicone o-rings that I use like a washer to interface my valve stems inside the rim.

    I picked up a set of the Vittoria XC inserts from a vendor's booth at the Snowshoe WC race last year. I installed them on a Reynolds wheelset with Schwalbe Racing Ray/Ralph tires and it was not a pleasurable experience at all. Forget using the tire levers as they will destroy your rim tape (so get used to sore thumbs). The set I bought came with special valve stems that have additional holes supposedly to prevent vapor lock but the inserts still managed to seal off the stem. This tends to make the use of a pressure gage somewhat iffy at best. I noticed a hole in the set being installed in the video but there was no mention of ensuring that it lines up with the valve stem to prevent blockage. Perhaps this feature has been overlooked? At any rate, I'm glad I finally got them installed. I'm sure they'll one day save my rims from potential destruction. But I am NOT looking forward to my next wheel service.

    I use Rimpact Inserts on my Hardtail, and they probaly safed my rims a few times. Irs not to difficult to set up whe do it with a bit of thinking and staying calm. Swiched out my Rims last week, b/c i got a second set of Rims and need about an hour for switching the Tyres from one Rim set to the other and a new set of tyres to the old Rims.

    Why not inject the sealant through the valve stem? That’s what I do. Is there a problem with that?

    • @chrisridesbicycles
      @chrisridesbicycles 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It can get difficult to get the sealant where it belongs with inserts. However, the shape of the new version looks like it could be easier with that one.

    5:35 why tf does a mtb focused page not know how to properly fill sealant into a TIRE. get a syringe and put it through valve stem this page honestly is sad at times

    I'd like to give an advice on how to make it a bit simpler. When you insert the insert, you will try to set the tyre. That's a trick. You push one side to the centre to fit, but you can't push the other side because the insert will add a lot of tension. I recommend leaving one side of the tyre on the rim fully beaded, then putting the insert and then setting the other side of the tyre.

    Always wondered can you use an insert as a tube protector instead somehow or am I just been silly

    • @LaurentiusTriarius
      @LaurentiusTriarius 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nope, you don't have enough space in the tire for both, at least technically yes but the insert would prevent the tube to sit properly and even inflate ...

  • @EvagorasMichalis
    @EvagorasMichalis 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This Topeak pump head is made to particularly hold the valve core inside its body, and when done with uinflating the tubeless tire, you just press and screw the core back again, with no hiss and air lose whatsoever. I cannot understand why you @GMBN_tech do not use the feature since you do have the particular Tubi head.

    I've got Tannus on my rims, can't remember when I last had a puncture! If I go tubeless I feel like this is going to change! Buying Peaty's stuff £40, a h
    Holeshot £20 and co2 £20... Don't see the point stopping and having to piss about putting air back in!

    I wish the last part was explained in more detail. Less volume, does it mean I should pump it at a lower or higher pressure than without the insert?

    • @blakekennard7700
      @blakekennard7700 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the case of adding an insert, you can use less air pressure. The insert acts as part of the air volume

    • @brucebillst
      @brucebillst 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He said you run the same pressure (7:55-8:20). His point was that with less air volume, the pressure moves up faster when adding air or down faster when bleeding air off. With a smaller air volume tire (since the insert is taking up space that was formally air), pressure change is more sensitive to air volume changes. His point to use a digital gauge was less strong. It may help if you know that your are less than a lb. away versus a gauge that displays only in whole numbers.

    Why not just syringe the sealant into the tire rather than popping the bead? It's way less mess for me.
