This is awesome. Love the forethought on structural improvements, weight placements, power and seating. Cool . 15” 200 Opties with Sporties! game on! What’s the thought on driveshaft heights and prop choices
@@vehiculemagazine love it all, but for changing the drivers pos. the point sofar in this "class" is to build "sleepers" that look original but for the powerpack. midseating upfront pretty much makes it a racetool
Fjordlings are amazing. I have a 65' 17HT here in the US. Restored it in 2010. So stable when on plane. Turns effortlessly. I can only imagine what 400Hp would drive like. Good luck with your build!
I think this only popped into my algorithm because I flew into Helsinki, bus as an Australian with a love of boats, I could not be happier! Well worth the sub
The 300 x is a great motor built 1 for a 20 foot cyclone ski race boat. I’ve been building 3 ltr mercs since 1996 when I built the first twin rig in Australia possibly the world with twin 225 Efi. At the time I crankcase injected them made custom tuners tight heads 2.5 offshore trumpet fronts grafted on ported plus mod ecu from Sean at repair. The 300 x has a small amount of chest work similar in shape to the s3000 drag this allows them to rev significantly higher than the normal pro Max. The one I built was raised and widened in exhaust balanced very tight heads plus had rev limit lifted to 8500 rpm. This combination ran a 28 lab finish 14.5 dia chopper with 1.75 gears to 8000 rpm. Towed a skier at in excess of 100 mph. The fjordling is just a gorgeous quirky looking boat truly amazing handling for such a small boat with the power.
Found this channel one day when the video on the rise and demise of powerboat racing showed up on my feed. Great content! Looking forward to this build. Funny enough, my work is trying to sell a 200XS outboard as mentioned for your dream setup. Came off of a racing boat that was converted to electric. Based in the US, though!
I think it will be way to heavy in the bow with your plans. Especially with TWO people sitting under the HT. I would keep the original seating positions. But time will tell I guess :)
I remember fishing with my grandpa Prior on Sutherland Lake in Harrison, Michigan and he had an evinrude 235 and would let me drive when we got out onto the main part of the lake. Thanks for bringing back memories from my childhood (38 now).
@vehiculemagazine i was about 8 yrs old when i started going to his cottage. So 1992 or 93. He had the place until he passed. Best Largemouth Bass fishing and giant Northern Pike & Catfish in Michigan hands down.
Awesome project, can't wait for the outcome ! what about Keeping it full Scandinavian with a couple of Volvo t5 or Saab 2.3t engines if they fit ? maybe Koenigsegg is got a TFG engine lying around the workshop :), I can smell the millions views video knots away !
Did I miss why you would take an inboard/outboard hull, where the power head is inside the boat and the drive is attached to the transom, and turn it into a twin outboard hull?
I remember these boats from when I was a kid round 1970. My uncle had a 17 feet wooden speedboat with a 50 hp. The Fjordlings went past us like rockets usually with a big Mercury fitted! Stockholm archipelago. Great memories and got me into boating for life!
I can't wait to see the end result. especially if it becomes a two-stroke engine twice with all your other ideas. Good luck with the waves we have here on the rivers 😉
Patrik from Sweden put a Mercury 300xs on his Fjordling 17HT (in 2008). Hope he tunes in to the channel. I am not sure about the short shaft models and twins, you risk swamping the engines coming of plane possibly even just sitting in the water because they are quite heavy.
I'll be following this project for sure, I am looking for a repair object in Sweden so I can rebuild it to my own taste. just waiting for something I can get my hands on.
Ohhhh...... This guy understands. When i was 10 ( in norway when you are 10 years old youre legally allowed to ride boats motors with less than 10 HP so i had a 9.9HP) i had a 10' WITH-JOLLE dinghy with a 9.9. Mostly same feeling tbh
I can hook you up with the best vacation place if you want to come to WNW norway. We have 2 boat houses, any type old fishing gear you like, well held 130 yr old Færing (in essence a small viking boat, with sail) and a view of THE north way (Alden). Search Værlandet
Be careful, on that possible twin 200 setup , twins spinning to the inside will probably cause sudden unexpected stern lift and instability, maybe faster but look out :):):), single 2 stroke 300X ProMax, sportsmaster gearcase with low water pickups and/or transom water pickups with a strong stern jack would be the setup :), just 200kgs and around 330 prop hp :):):), some torque twist/prop walk but manageable :), just keep an eye on the gearcase shift linkage seal
Congrats cause that is going to be an AWESOME BUILD.......l was racing back in the late 1980's two side by side Johnson 300 HP outboards in my Boats = 600 HP.......Thank you...... Old F-4 Phantom fighter jet pilot Shoe🇺🇸
230kg each dry weight. Two of those hanging of the stern is going to be an issue . There simply will be enough freeboard at rest even a small wake could swamp the boat . You would be better of with a single 300xs probably get the same speed with the less drag running a single unit .
My friend managed to repair one of these boats, but sadly passed away before he could get a proper motor mounted to it. Increased the truss thickness everywhere, it gained weight quite alot. We tried it with a 80 hp tohatsu but it was way too rearheavy to go anywhere with that thing. The boat is now living under a tarp. I helped him time to time with the project. I dont know what should now be done with it. We have a 150 v6 outboard for it, but is proper thing for it? Where could I find a proper enthusiast to continue the project? Location Finland.
@@vehiculemagazine It was intended to be constructive. For example a similar theme plays during the bank interior section of the heist in heat to hold tension, and contributes to it being one of the best pieces of cinema in the last 30 years, but would obviously just be exhausting if the film tried to hold it for 3 hours. Same here.
