The model 31 is known for having the smoothest action as any pump shotgun I have one and it really is that smooth. Remington was hoping to be able to compete better with the Winchester model 12 but that had to wait till the 870 came out
@@UnitedStatesOfGuns It really was the better gun and have seen several configurations now. I am young. Turning 23 in a few days but my best buddy bo (61yrs) passed it along to my buddy camry who's 21 now , works like a charm , butter smooth and its an understatement. I mean seriously if you wheeze on that thing it functions by itself minus pulling the trigger and aiming 😂. But the model 37 is the even lesser known but imo equally respectable . Id preferably have the 37 in cylinder bore , 12 or 20 Guage with the short barrel, not a long extended barrel that hangs over the mag tube . But yeah I couldn't say anything else besides works everytime and lays em out year after year , season after season.
@@UnitedStatesOfGunshis also made with the slotted pump handle instead of a solid checkered or cambered pump handle. Which I like more but it really doesn't matter and I'd buy it in either way, but that low profile feel of the slotted pump handle is slightly 'more' and for my hands would be 'better'
The 31 might be the finest pump action Remington ever made. The amount of fine machining and milling in one would be considered utterly ludicrous by modern standards.
It really can't be overstated how futuristic the 10 looked when it debuted. It looks somewhat conventional now, but back in 1908 it looked decades ahead of its time.
@@LN997-i8x That little flapper/lifter is really a weak link though.. has a tiny nub/tit that rides in a recess and is prone to wear and breakage… I love mine but there is a reason it did last long. As far as bottom feed and eject goes the model 37 is a much better design , obviously.
It's a very clean looking design, AK rifles are opposite, funky looking but reliable, I have a model 10 and it functions well but maybe it was never used much, I have only put about 50 shells thru it myself to test it out
@@GS-zv3qn Mine is still reliable , but hasn’t been used a ton. I had another that was not reliable.. I fought with it fabricating this and tweaking that… finally sold it to a dude as a parts gun.
Remington invented the double action bars to move the bolt. Double action bats were parented for a long time. Preventing other shotgun manufacturers from using two action bars. Other makers used a problematic single action bar. When the patent expired every shotgun manufacturer started making shotguns with double bars. Double action bars is an invention that is still used today by every manufacturer.
I appreciate your videos. I’ve had a lifelong experience with Remingtons. Speaking of which, please tell me how to contact you about possibly purchasing one of your 8mm Remingtons?
I didn't know about the Model 29 - thank you - I'll look for one. Looks like a Model 10 - no doubt with improvements. You have a fine collection. Much appreciated.

Glad you own one - I wonder where they all are - hard to find for sale. It sure is slick; some collectors prefer it to the 870.
I have an improved cylinder model 12, it makes a fantastic field piece. Probably my favorite gun for chasing small game.

31 well made smooth classic

Many agree with you
My brother owned a model 31 and a model 10 , both are great operating shotguns, thanks for sharing .
Love the 31
31 is a well made classic
@ Yes it is. If you aren’t already familiar you should check out a JC Higgins model 20 ( made by High Standard) A smooth shotgun indeed
Love all your videos. Thanks for making them.
Thank you - much appreciated!
There's also the model 17 only offered in 20 gauge though, I think there was one other as well.
Nice video sir. I just got myself a 31 a couple of weeks ago and I love it.
I decided to take my 31 duck hunting - it's that good. Glad you bought one!
Always good to see your shorts hope your doing well
Isn't the Mossberg 500 loosely based on the Remington Model 31 ?
It is! It has the same carrier and the bolt is the exact same
Hi Rick - I think so - people are writing me that the JC Higgins is similar as well.
@UnitedStatesOfGuns
Thank you for making the follow up video my friend. Happy Thanksgiving.
You won't melt, keep up the good work! Best video's on you tube
So far so good : ) I'll keep going.
Model 10 has the cool bottom ejection. It makes the sides clean and is the same for shooting left or right handed

The bottom ejection is cool but side ejection is easier to design, simple and works great

Hello and thank you - please email me at usogbyemail@gmail.com
I have a model 29 made in 1930, a model 31 made in 1940 and an 870 made in 1954 all great Shotguns
I didn't know about the Model 29 - thank you - I'll look for one. Looks like a Model 10 - no doubt with improvements. You have a fine collection. Much appreciated.
@ i believe the 29 has coil springs as opposed to flat springs it was a short lived model in between the 10 and the 31
Respect for videos in rain.
Thank you - It's actually quite nice filming the rain : )
Are still there Speed and
Fieldmasters (both .22?)
They're around used - I don't see them on the current Remington web site.
Yes
There's a model 29 between the 10 and 31
31 looks like a mossberg
I'm being told that Mossberg took over the design.
The 869 😂
To be followed by the 871 : )
I have a nice model 10 but it has a problem with the lifter
I wish I can have back my 12 ga. KINGFLIGHT. Remember?
You bet - fantastic shotgun. Could have been a Flit King as well. All the best.
