Loving this conversion, thinking about the same options for mine as the compression on cylinder 3 in low. The engine will have to come out so hence the thoughts about engine options. In the UK these Toyota cars are called MX5’s. My differential is also leaking at the case so what you’re doing mirrors my challenges. You can buy a 5 speed box conversion to use with the old Triumph engine but these are £2000- 2500 to buy, so expensive vs a Toyota engine and gearbox combination from a second hand car.
