Hard question to answer. Too many. Different movies for different reasons. Maybe I am a Tom Cruise fan? may be so. The man does have a Lot of good movies though and a good variety of roles.
you're right. I was on a public bus a while back and pretty much everyone was cheering on two kids just booting it for the bus stop in order to make it onto the bus. They were about a half block away from the stop and they didn't hesitate once. I mean, the bus driver was gonna wait for that level of commitment anyways regardless, but he couldn't exactly slow down for them. But, yeah, didn't think of that memory until you mentioned it and it fits perfectly. It's sort of a "we're gonna be exhausted at the end of this" almost amateurish give it your all kind of sprint. The video didn't really focus alot on this sort of analysis which means it was just a 'hot take'...i mean, do they style his hair specifically to give both an enhancement to the running AND to look kind of immature/amateur look? We understand as the video said that he does this style to look cool, ofc, but the video didn't spend the time that sort of concept deserved. kind of a waste really. A clip of Cruise mentioning the old actors was just teased and not followed up with a focus on this sort of commitment by the actor...it all just seemed haphazard and clunky and just flukes if they touched on a point lightly
True belief in himself and true professionalism. The one thing about scientology is the neurolinguist programming to believe that one's abilities are limitless. Cruise drank the kool-aid.
As a former D1 Sprinter I can tell you that Tom Cruise without a doubt has the best sprinting form in Hollywood. Quick turnover, full leg extension (no drag), complete and powerful arm action, chest up, head relaxed, minimal side-to-side movement, all resulting in a decently quick speed which look just fantastic on screen.
Except he is exhausted at the end of it. Also Short screen takes so he isn't a runner. If you watch the running more carefully you will see he doesn't run straight, his form is off, he doesn't lift his foot up high, his hands go to high, my 7yr daughter runs better but she has had training. He is short so he should be more perfect in his movements because Short people have better movement awareness and yet I'm 6ft and can see he has no learned training experience. Daniel Craig runs like a man who runs everyday at least. Like a real Agent, or FBI etc. Tom cruise always does close ups and bicep close ups but he is short so his muscle is more compact. if he actually did the training that Daniel Craig did he'd be Huge and buff. Even at his age.
@@lesliegrayson1722 The fact that he's exhausted is not really important. Every sprinter is exhausted after a race. Also, Tom's form is definitely better than Craig. Daniel Craig has a shitload of leg drag which tells me hes probably a distance runner. He doesnt get his knees up, and doesnt drive as hard. He probably runs more that cruise, but his sprint form is certainly not better.
For me it's actually Tom Cruise's facial expression while running is what makes him different. No other actor projects urgency, fear, tense, danger and action like Tom Cruise's face while running.
I love the idea of Tom Cruise's co-stars having to be 'allowed' to run with him. It's like the power contained in his run is so dangerous you need a special permission to be near it.
I mean, that's probably not far from the truth in the sense that he's considerably more athletically fit than most of his co-stars. Like if you have two guys running side by side and one is only going at 50% and the other is at 80, it really shows, so if you're trying to make look like they're on equal footing...
To me, what makes Tom's run so memorable is how he fully commits to it even if the form makes him look silly. The dedication makes him look like he's ready to run though a cement wall if need be.
Mm, as an only child more interested in speed & flow, more than what's popular, I'm stoked to watch this clip; He seems fast when he runs and I identify with it. I'm stoked he seems more self-aware, in interviews, so I'm far less reluctant to watch & enjoy his work, which I feel has been consistently worth it. ✌🏼
As a former track runner, his form is perfect for racing. I still run like this on the treadmill 20 years later because that form was engrained in us. I’m sure it looks silly in the gym too lol. I can tell he had professional training.
While I’m not a fan of him off screen I can’t help but respect him on screen. His work ethic is incredible and his on screen presence reflects that. You can tell he’s committed to his craft.
Same. He won me over by allowing himself to be killed repeatedly and brutally in Edge of Tomorrow, which was a hoot. Once I got over my hater ways, it was easy to appreciate him. He puts so much into his craft, of himself, elevates/pushes fellow actors. Tremendous. I really hated orig Top Gun ( being full Cruise hater at that point ) but Mav had me won over. Great fun.
What???! 🤣 I watched MI3 and MI1 over the past few days, for the first time in years. My reaction was wtf is his body moving like that for but not actually going that fast 🙈. Dunno why but it looks weird to me. Anyone who thinks that looks cool, was probably never a sprinter. Rocky and Apollo Creed on the beach, will always be the best running scene for me.
Not to mention that every director that has ever worked with him loves it. They tell him to do something, he does it, the end. Extremely professional, if a bit eccentric at times. His personal life and antics aside, he is a master at his craft, and you have to respect that. The last of a dying breed.
I think it's pretty important to NOT put aside his personal life and antics when that involves treating people like garbage and putting his fake religion above his family.
@@StreakyBaconMan Man, I'd even hang up Hitlers paintings if they wouldn't look awful as fuck. You really gotta seperate the art from the artist, dude. @@QuiveringNow Yeah, most people in Hollywood didn't literally abandon their children and refuse to see them. And this suggestion that mostly everyone in the film industry is a terrible person is just nonsense - the vast majority of people who work in Hollywood are NOT terrible people. Tom Cruise is.
I've said it for over 15 years now. Tom really is one of the last action stars. He fights, he runs, he performs his own stunts, some of which are ridiculously dangerous and yet he does it year on year and only got more committed once he hit his 50s. I love all his movies and I hope he continues for another 10-15 years.
@@LuciferBalor yea people seem to forget that for some reason. You would be amazed at how many people believe Bruce Lee was an elite fighter based on his movies.
I ran track in college, and at 43, can't run as fast as Cruise does now. Just getting the body moving that fluidly at this age takes a lot of dedication!
I drank beer and studied engineering in college and I regularly hit this pace (at a sprint, not on average lmao) in the middle of 10Ks no problem running 2-3 times a week
@@ULTRAOutdoorsman ok so basically you’re saying you have been exercising consistently since college. So that’s not the brag you think it is. You’ve kept yourself in shape, a little beer won’t ruin that lol
After a long break from running, I got on one of those machines that are powered only by your feet and got up to a little over 14 mph and strained something in my hamstring. I definitely need to take it slowly and work my way up, not a spring chicken anymore.
Cruise has been an A List leading man for four decades without any real dip in his audience draw. I can't think of another performer who has done that.
hes a midget wanna be action hero because he has played one for 3 decades hes a midaged man that hollywood wants to convince you that he can "do" anything
You know who was also a great runner, Jackie Chan. Just look at his run in Police Story 2. There is so much emotion and passion in his run in the final act of the movie. A standout memory from that movie.
@Ejuice Vaper I've returned to rain on your parade. Unfortunately Jackie Chan has come out as pro CCP (Chinese Communist Party) as of late. Honestly it broke my heart. He betrayed his homeland of Hong Kong and threw in with main land China during the 2019 crackdown. He also publicly scolded his son for getting arrested for weed (a drug less harmful than alcohol). Jackie could have chosen to use his status to advocate for a freer China, but he chose the dark path of tyranny. 😥
@ejuicevaper If a person's religion is the standard by which you measure their work then you most likely have a hate-on for well over 50% of the people on this planet.
Urgency.. when he runs, the audience "feels" the sense of urgency. It gets us excited, and makes for an awesome experience. Its not just a movie, the audience "feels" that emotion of impending doom. Hats off to Tom Cruise. The last of the true American movie star
It’s true - he’s always running for his life, and makes it look like he’s got that “this could be my last run” look. I think he also makes it look hard - like it’s not a polished tool for his character, but something spontaneous he must do at 110% right now, to save the day.
@@cameronsidhu5711 He is saying Cruise could aim for the fastest time for a 60 year old. Not likely. But he could try. He is as fit as most 60 yr olds. And lots of Olympians let themselves relax in their fitness regime at age 60 after 2 decades of commitment to training.
@@davehill5764 Yeah Olympians are not running in their 60s, but Tom Cruise is not that fast, I bet that he is not able to run under 13s and that would be incredible for a 60y old
@@davehill5764 Fit as most 60 years olds? So you're saying most 60 years old men are as fit as Tom? No way man. Tom is in better shape than most 40 years olds.
Part of the reason I think Tom has stayed heavy on action movies is he still can. He can come back to drama or other movies with low physical requirements, but once his body says no more action or no more doing your own stunts. Then he will have to stop. He’s basically getting all the mileage he can on this part of his craft while he can. He could also enjoy this type of movie work more then the other forms.
My buddy's friend is a track & field coach who has been a runner for decades in track, but also cross country. He saw the MI:3 run, and said: "His running form is basically perfect. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he entered some nationals for fun, and took 1st place."
Was going to comment basically on the same thing. At first, I was wondering if his form was that of a track runner and perhaps that's why. Then, when the video showed a few others, I was like - "It's gotta be!" The upright chest, and the range of motion in his legs compared to others?
really didn't expect to be entertained by a video about tom cruise running but here i am commenting 7 mins later because i enjoyed the video 😂 what i like about the way he runs is how frantic and chaotic he looks, I can really feel how high stakes the situation is because he looks like he's desperately trying to get somewhere. a lot of actors nowadays run so gracefully/balletic so the running scenes lose the chaotic feeling
I think his running creates a sense of excitement and anxiety amongst the audience most other stars aren't able to create at this level. And really he runs very fast, damn, at his age, unbelievable!
I was a sprinter too. For years I always slow motion replay all of Tom Cruise's running scenes. I used to wonder how much is natural and how much is coaching. .... Doesn't matter, the result is brilliant, Tom's running style is powerful, smooth and also very dramatic. And Ps, I actually think it's mostly natural. Go Tom Cruise !!
From what I've seen, whatever Cruise commits to, he goes all in. His dance scenes in TROPIC THUNDER (and the following choreography he performed with no less an entertainer than Jennifer Lopez!) impressed me for how much better they are then they need or have a right to be. Cruise is hard core about getting his physical performances correct, and it shows.
@@KillerCuddles-fc6kg no one said the man is a perfect human being. He gives great performances in movies, whatever you think about him. If you don't like him personally, then don't marry him. (And Cruise doesn't care what you think about him because, as this video explains, he can outrun your criticism easily.)
@@topgeorge6908 Of course not... Muslims are just as brainwashed as Catholics and Christians.... But they don't have a boat everybody knows about with dozens of slaves. That's the difference between scientology and every other religion
I think another, little-considered factor that makes Tom Cruise's run look better is that he's so short. He's light, his body is able to look like it's moving really fast and dynamically, whereas a taller person would have a harder time achieving that same ferociously rapid look, even if they were covering ground more easily with longer strides.
It's pretty incredible how his career has turned from dramatic, emotional roles with great themes/morals/conflicts, to full on high level action with crazy stakes and impact. His earlier movies are really good for the mind and the second half of his career are really good for the eyes. It's hard to name any actor comparing this range to this day. And his commitment to the roles... I can only think of the physicality and mind of Christian Bale, or DD Lewis, whose acting are never in doubt either. They act on a different level.
also, most actors have it flipped, where when they're younger, they're more active and are in more action movies, and when they're older they lose the energy they had when they were younger and so are less active and are thus in more "mind" movies
In Collateral, I think he should have been nominated for the supporting role, not Jamie Foxx. After all, he was the villain, not the good guy/protagonist. So he would have won the Oscar that year. Very deserving.
hes so different in the movie because michael man is known for letting the actors do exactly what he wants, nothing else. Maybe that is the reason behind the scenes idk.
Tom has always felt the need, the need for speed. I think he's just a really intense guy, and running is an easy way for him to express and get out his intensity. Almost all the running scenes are frivolous, but they're also memorable and mesmerizing and his trademark by now.
Might be weird, but I'm delighted you used MI:3 for much of this. Whenever I think of the TC run, I think of that scene. Great movie, and the running genuinely contributed.
Seriously. The art of acting while running. When Tom runs in some of his films you can feel the desperation, the strain, the focus and how he's DIGGING his feet in the ground with each step. My guy is actually SPRINTING like his life and other's are in his hands.
As good as the MI movies are I still want to see him in a Jerry McGuire or Magnolia type of roles. It sucks that he is now more popular for his action than his acting, cos I think he is a terrific actor.
@@tryingtotryistrying I want to see him working with Martin Scorsese i could see him putting Tom Cruise in a new type of role earning him his first Oscar award.
He has a bigger range than his many action films would probably tell the average person, especially when it comes to comedies. He was pretty funny in Risky Business and absolutely hilarious in Tropic Thunder. One of his best roles ever though was in Collateral where he was one of the most ruthless, chilling villains I’ve ever seen. He really needs to play the bad guy more often because he can do it just as well as the hero type role.
I remember years ago watching “The Firm” with my grandmother. She commented how committed Tom Cruise’s character felt because he sprinted across a busy road without looking, but the guy chasing him had to slow down and look. He’s right. It’s storytelling. His character WILL save the day and you believe that
I was waiting for someone to mention The Firm. I noticed his running back then and loved it before it became a thing. I had no idea his running of all things would become so iconic.
My number 1 goal in life is now to create a short film featuring Tom Cruise where he's constantly looks like he's going to run but never does just to annoy people. Looks at watch before leaving for work, is late, considers running to the train station, can't be bothered, just walks. Walking to bus stop, sees bus coming behind him, thinks about running, can't be bothered, just misses bus and gets the next one. Wife is in labour, car broken down, not far from hospital, considers running, flags down other car to get a lift instead. Takes job as a bike courier, breaks down on route to a customer, considers running, calls them instead advising he will get the next taxi. ...
I watched Mission Impossible 7 last night. This 61 year old man had multiple running scenes in that movie... and they were all freekin' amazing. He really does look like he's flying he's so fast.
“Say what you want about his off screen antics and values, but it’s impossible to watch the man put this much effort into his craft without showing some sort of appreciation.” I couldn’t agree more, I hate when people write him off as an actor because of his personal life.

Agreed, the shot atop the airport was very well done. A beautiful shot with a great sense of speed. Overall the cinematography of the film was incredible
IMO, Nolan's movie characters lacks weight. Like for example Tenet, the lead characters in that is so bland. Tom Cruise wouldn't like that. I would prefer Tom Cruise work with James Cameron. His characters have depth and his movies are as authentic as it can get.
@@marshallislandsg5630 tenet the lead actors were meant to be 'bland' - i.e. naming the main character the protagonist. Inception, Interstellar, dark knight all have dynamic characters
Gotta love this resurgence he’s experiencing because despite what you think of his personal life, he really deserves to be recognized for what he brings to cinema. There’s just no one like him and Top Gun really helped remind folks that he’s needed for movies, he’s the last Hollywood heavy weight bringing the golden era of blockbuster movies.
He's the last of his kind. No other action stars come close to the amount of care and authenticity that Tom puts into his product. Truly a reminder of what used to make Hollywood great. Every studio's over-reliance on CGI has killed the action genre. Certainly hope the age of the stuntman/actor makes a resurgence one day. Because CG won't ever look as authentic as the real thing within my lifetime.
Tom really does look beautiful when he runs. His back is straight as a board, his arms don't swing back and forth across his body, just straight forward and back, his face holds that deep concentration of the need to move as fast as possible and his legs are nearly a blur. And I agree with you, Daniel Craig is just behind him.
🙄 As a former world-class runner I can assure you - Tom Cruise has terrible running form. He's stiff and choppy, and expends a lot of energy, which makes him look like he's running a lot faster than he actually is. That''s why his running shots are always closeups. If you saw a wide angle shot you'd see he's not moving very fast.
@@cryo9216 the point is not to make it look real. The point is to make it look cool though. He's wearing cool jackets and suits while running. People dont walk like that but that walk sure looks cool to most.

Tom Cruise is the perfect example why separating art from the artist is a good thing. Or in another way, he is another living proof that the most dedicated person in their field are not "societal normal".
You know everyone says this shit about his beliefs, but scientology is no less stupid or predatory than an abrahamic religion He works hard and he treats people well (according to people that work with him). Why do you need to act like it's icky to like him.
I've been told that Robert Patrick consistently out-ran the dirt bike he was chasing in _Terminator 2_ so had to slow down his sprint, and if you watch him run it looks a lot like these later Cruise runs. Credit to the guy, he was supposedly also trying not to breathe too much (as if an infiltration robot wouldn't pretend to have normal human autonomic reactions?).
I went and saw Maverick in the theatre and was amazed that before the film began there was a segment in which Tom Cruise thanked the audience for choosing to see the movie in a theatre. He is very committed to his profession.
That beginning clip was a bit of a turnoff. Cruise is always assuming we worship him, and that "thank you" came off as just another attention-seeking devise by a total narcissist. The woman I took to see the movie agreed with me wholeheartedly.
@@DougGriggPhoto That's what made it cringe! He shouldn't have done it. It was completely pointless, except for the opportunity to say, "Look at me! Aren't I wonderful?" 🤮
Tom Cruise is actually an athlete in real life. Dude does all kinds of physical training and running is just one of them. I think in one of the interviews he mentioned that he could sprint for a long time without running out of breath. He can even slow his heart beat so he could hold his breath underwater for 5 minutes. He is certainly not your average actor. He goes way beyond that.
Dear Tom, you inspire us. I'm so happy that someone recognised Tom's running dedication other than his incredible stunts! It is just soooo satisfying to watch him 'Run' with that emotional tension...just love it.
@@sonderevokingbunsbro that’s what I came to say too.. idk if people not realizing how much effort Jackie Chan put into his movies, maybe even more than Tom cruise 😊
Probably THE most famous movie run, not mentioned here, was Cary Grant in North by Northwest in a blue suit being chased by a crop duster. Another great athlete, he was in his mid 50s when he did that. Perfect form. Gotta hand it to Cruise. He goes all-in in whatever he does and he's an inspiration to "middle aged" guys who are constantly being told by society that they're old and should just sit back and get fat. That's a control mechanism, and Cruise is ruining their narrative. Now, at 60, he's going to be the first actor to walk in space. Hat tip!
I would love to see him do more villain and comedy roles. Loved Collateral, Knight and Day cracked me up, and Tropic Thunder combined the villain and comedy 😂
I think he also does a great job implementing the run into the stories. Like often it’s in scenes where it makes sense why his character would be running full speed. He’s not running just because people are waiting to see the run. Which speaks to his philosophy as a filmmaker! As much as he clearly loves making bombastic action scenes, he really does care about story and character first and foremost
I for one love and appreciate what Tom Cruise has given all of us, the average moviegoers. He never takes a shortcut or “cheats” us out of our money. He’s earned everything he has.
😂 He's actually very inefficient and expends a lot of energy with his short choppy stride and tense upper body. Put him against any world-class runner and you'd see his running form is a joke. And he'd be left in the dust. Effortlessly.
@@cryo9216 You're comparing an amateur runner to an elite athlete? Seriously Tom is a fast runner considering he's not a pro and his style is actually what a sprinter does in real life.
When I was in cross country, our coach taught us to keep our arms pumping straight up and down and not letting your arms cross your body. Your legs naturally follow the path of your arms. If your arm crosses your body, your leg will cross your stride, and it will take more energy to correct it. Keeping your arms up saves a lot of energy over a 2 mile course, lets you use more energy for speed. I can still hear him cheering us on in the chute, "Arms up ladies! On your toes! Kick it in! Let's go, let's go!"
The run in Fallout was the most intense of any. The emotion and desperation to catch that guy was just so tense along with the humour of the moment, when Simon Pegg was getting his equipment wrong.. Best running scene for me..
But also I think there’s something super relatable about running … how many times have you run your heart out while imagining yourself in one of these action sequences … there’s something so fun and liberating and human about it that I think the audience recognizes that and connects to it
Yep. I was the fastest in my school k-5. 5th grade me an the other fastest kid' tied in the 80 yard dash. 40 yards to one point. Drop the eraser on the line, turn around run back, grab other eraser, run back with both erasers. 9.8 seconds! Record probably still stands! 84'
To add, I think the running opens up the movie. You get to see more of the world. The directors do a good job at making the world feel natural as they're running through it. You can see yourself witnessing it, which makes you feel apart of it. Cruise will do anything, including hurt himself to make the scene feel more real, and it shines through in long shot scenes like this, 110% commitment by Cruise.
I was talking to my mom about this literally the other day. I was talking crap on other actors bc i hate in movies whenever people "run" it is a mildly intense jog at best. Tom Cruise is one of the few people who actually full on SPRINT in movies and thats what makes it so cool

He’s worth anything they are paying him, but I imagine given his effort and obvious love of what he is doing - he’s not just doing this for the money :)
In the MI films, I always liked to think that his ability to run is directly tied to his agency training. He will have, no doubt, needed to pass multiple physical screenings and selections to get to such top-tier mission operations. Many years of supervised physical training and PFTs. Ethan Hunt only moves the way he does because he was the only person in his generation (who dropped a packet) who made it all the way through all of the assessments and selections. "The living manifestation of destiny."

@Jay monopoly by definition would be one single company amassing entire industry. Neither that has happened and people are open to other content. Plus natural monopolies are good.
Ever since me and a mate saw Cruise in The Firm back in the day running at speed in dress shoes on a wet cobbled street he earned the title of "Fastest man in Hollywood" from us. 30 years later the dude is still undefeated!
Hoping to see some epic-level runs in last two Mission Impossible movies. 14.6 seconds is freaking FAST for 100 meters. This dude just has serious talent.... :)
One of the roles I love the most is his role in Tropic Thunder as Ben's character is basically based on Tom Cruise so in a sense, he bashes himself in a comedic way. He is TRULY one of the last true action stars and he really keeps on commiting to that. We have many great actors like him, no doubt, but he is really that MOVIE action star. The one that's over the top, plausible but waaay over the top, like an action hero should be. And he embraces that role.
I always liked the Cruise run, my favorite thing about the actor is that he's my height but he gets to do action movies. As a teenager I actually deliberately ran the way TC does, and people were surprised at how fast I was with my little legs. The knife hand thing might look silly, but it feels cool to do.
My personal favourite Cruise run is seen in War of the Worlds, after the first Tripod rises and begins attacking. Paired with the intense score and surrounding carnage, it makes for both an exhilarating run, and one you feel the absolute urgency of.
War of the Worlds gets a lot of crap but man, it is such a tense movie, you feel Ray's every emotion even when he's being a not-so-dedicated dad in the beginning. The running scene is awesome.
While it has little to do with the book its based on, the movie is actually pretty enjoyable when taken on its own merit. I honestly can't remember just how many times I've watched it, but it must be into double digits by now!
I remembered watching MI3 and thought his run was good, almost 'impossible' . Then, he topped it off beautifully with the one he did in Ghost Protocol. Tom Cruise running is a genre on it's own.
there's still one more guy that has been underated. Robert Patrick in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. he also got amazing running form that make him look really fast and menacing.
The MI3 run stands out for me as its one of the few runs that is done with a single shot, no cuts, for like 3 minutes, the level of fitness required to pull that off is honestly incredibly impressive.
Something that I really enjoy from Tom Cruise movies is that you actually see him doing the scene. It feels like every movie now days needs to cut 30 times for a 10 second fight. Always covering the face which makes it feel like a stun man or making the stuns way to crazy that they have to be animated. But, Tom Cruise just does it. You see the whole thing, the fights, the jumping, the running, and it just makes these scenes so much more enjoyable. It gives it that grounding in reality almost like you just happened to look out your window and seen it happening.
I appreciate how you used the meme of the run as a basis to analyze Cruise's whole career and the how he relates to the industry as a whole. That was a really solid video. Keep it up.
After watching this video, I have just realized for the first time that I have never seen a cruise movie without an awesome running scene. Holy hell! Every single one of them has him running somewhere
I think you explained exactly why Tom Cruise running scenes are such an important part of the whole that makes Tom Cruise an action star with no peers, the best of the best.
It seems like he keeps his back perfectly straight and consistently moves his arms and legs out to their fullest possible extension, rapidly and he does the whole thing very consistently. That's how he runs, and it creates a mesmerizing effect.
This was perfect, this sums up why I like his work in ways I didn't even know. He's the modern day Buster Keaton, he puts it all on the line himself to get the shot & he's one of the very best at it. So glad TH-cam recommended this to me it's a great video

Normal Person loses their home and all they own- meaningless. TC runs somewhere- HUGE FUCKIN DEAL.
you're right.
I never realized he ran so much in movies before. After seeing the clips in this video tho it feels quite amazing now
It's pretty mindblowing how this guy has managed to stay at the top of his game for over four decades...

Every studio's over-reliance on CGI has killed the action genre. Certainly hope the age of the stuntman/actor makes a resurgence one day. Because CG won't ever look as authentic as the real thing within my lifetime.
The running is just a cool way of showing his athleticism and adding urgency to the scene to push the story along
3:45 "When they are ALLOWED to run with him" is just hilarious to me
Tom really does look beautiful when he runs.
@@cryo9216

@@BirdTurdMemes 😂 Thanks for confirming you know nothing about running and even less about camera work.
@@cryo9216 the point is not to make it look real. The point is to make it look cool though. He's wearing cool jackets and suits while running. People dont walk like that but that walk sure looks cool to most.
@Cr Yo You do know he's making movies, not entering races, right? How he looks doing it in the shots included in the film are all that matter. If someone thinks he looks beautiful doing it, what does that matter to you?

Tom Cruise is the perfect example why separating art from the artist is a good thing. Or in another way, he is another living proof that the most dedicated person in their field are not "societal normal".

@@cryo9216 maybe a little cringe, but that said, he didn't need to do it. still going up an beyond in an age of dying cinema

He is living his best life. :)
Tom is the most amazing action hero ever. He puts so much effort into each movie. Even at his current age, he's not slowing down.

@@taylorb2783 you know cruise is 60 years old now, and he still have 2 MI movies, or maybe more
Probably THE most famous movie run, not mentioned here, was Cary Grant in North by Northwest in a blue suit being chased by a crop duster. Hat tip!
I’m hoping that as he gets older, he starts to embrace more dramatic roles because he has a lot of potential
I would love to see him do more villain and comedy roles. Loved Collateral, Knight and Day cracked me up, and Tropic Thunder combined the villain and comedy 😂

@@lkf8799 bro him in tropic thunder is gold, he really sells of his characters lmao
Tom Cruise running is NOT a joke. It’s poetry in motion.
Aye aye!!!!!
😂 He's actually very inefficient and expends a lot of energy with his short choppy stride and tense upper body. Put him against any world-class runner and you'd see his running form is a joke. And he'd be left in the dust. Effortlessly.
@@cryo9216wow really, a 5’6 actor would get smoked by world class runners? Shocking
@@cryo9216 You're comparing an amateur runner to an elite athlete? Seriously Tom is a fast runner considering he's not a pro and his style is actually what a sprinter does in real life.
@@bigben42 btw height has nothing to do with that, there are some crazy fast short runners
Helps expand your chest and makes breathing easier as well
His head stays so still while he running. It's beautiful.
When Cruise sprints, most people only see melodrama. 🙄
The irony of being named 'Cruise' when your signature is 'Sprint'. Perhaps he has a flair for understatement.

And he embraces that role.
he is so good in that scene that i not even recognized him the first time i saw the movie.
Les Grossman. A scene stealing performance for his short time in that movie. He's just amazing

@Thomas Cruise Ain’t no way you’re using a fake Tom Cruise account to get people to “hit you up” as if this is Grindr 💀
He takes his job seriously. As a customer, I highly appreciate that.
MI3 running scene was so great at building up tension, it made the end of the movie much more intense, it's underrated IMO
They asked him to slow down as he kept catching the car too quickly!
The MI3 run stands out for me as its one of the few runs that is done with a single shot, no cuts, for like 3 minutes, the level of fitness required to pull that off is honestly incredibly impressive.
Tom Cruise running is the final test for Maury's Camermen
Something that I really enjoy from Tom Cruise movies is that you actually see him doing the scene.
It feels like every movie now days needs to cut 30 times for a 10 second fight.
Always covering the face which makes it feel like a stun man or making the stuns way to crazy that they have to be animated.
But, Tom Cruise just does it. You see the whole thing, the fights, the jumping, the running, and it just makes these scenes so much more enjoyable. It gives it that grounding in reality almost like you just happened to look out your window and seen it happening.
Actually it's not really Tom Cruise, it's Tom Crooze. th-cam.com/video/7i4NaUWuIyw/w-d-xo.html
I appreciate how you used the meme of the run as a basis to analyze Cruise's whole career and the how he relates to the industry as a whole. That was a really solid video. Keep it up.
I love how "Yelling Mandarin" was also one of the things that made his run so cool
